Was Niles right about Frasier cheapening psychology as a profession?
psychology is all worthless pseudo science. Its only useful for the same people who would get use out of shit like tarot card readers.
>>220090718dishwashers are better
>>220090718Yes, his advice was horribly simplistic and his conclusions ranged from obvious to asspulls (even for a freudian). Not that a Jungian like Niles had any right to talk shit.
>>220090781Fpbp. Aside from the most obvious and undeniable aspect of therapy being the benefit of having someone in an otherwise impersonal and disconnected world listen to you while you talk, therapy is bullshit. >t. Been through dozens of therapists, didn't get better until I decided to get better
>>220090781midwit mantra
>>220091141Nta but it’s the bell curve meme. Probably because therapy doesn’t work on both geniuses (too self aware) and retards (incapable of self reflection)
>>220091141>>220092142CBT actually does something because it requires the patient to do something. Everything else is the Dodo Bird Verdict, all therapy is exactly the same which is effective or ineffective but probably just a substitute for having a real friend which most people these days don't have. And I've met some people that make me think it's also a pseudo-cult.But none of that really applies to Frasier or Niles, they're both Psychiatrists, as in actual doctors who should be using medication to treat people even though it really never shows them doing that.
>>220093531Can confirm. Cock and ball torture had been effective for me.
>>220090781I was in therapy for years and it didn't help one bit. I was just using it as an opportunity to vent about my anxieties.
>>220091141I went for 6 years and it did nothing for me at all. They told me I was engaging with all of it so it wasnt like I wasnt putting in effort. They told me it just didnt seem to have any use for me as I am already a very self reflective person
>t. Been through dozens of therapists, didn't get better until I decided to get betterSame. I came to the same conclusion after being to so many therapists in my life (10-20 people). I don't want to blame the people though. The actual change comes from within, inside you.Therapists that have written books or given speeches/interviews on Youtube have helped me though, they have given me a better understanding of things.
Frasier WAS helping people, however he was only using extremely basic stuff. The show did make a point of having him regularly recommend that people go to regular counseling for more serious stuff which was good. It's just important to note that Frasier's role on a call in show is honestly less "psychologist" and more "guy who's really knowledgeable about human relationships and feelings".The big cheapening that can be argued is that Frasier was making psychology seem much simpler than it was by making inferences based on very brief interactions and very little data.>>220090781I come from a family of psychologists and have seen a lot of therapists in my past. Psychology IS a real and valid science but it's infested with more incompetent quacks than any other field I can think of. A majority of therapists are 100% useless and full of shit and basically just give you grandparent-lecture tier advice or send you off to someone they know so they can push horrible pills on you that destroy your mind and body.I still think psychology is a very important science that should be studied and advanced but they really need to do something about like 70% of them being insecure women who care more about lecturing people and feeling superior than actually furthering the science and helping people.TLDR if you're looking for a therapist look for a grey/greying old married/widowed man who looks happy but slightly reserved. Visibly low energy 50+ women who barely smile are also trustworthy, the real snakes pretend to be positive all the time.
>>220094932>The actual change comes from within, inside you.yeah...everyone who's not a fucking seething schizo midwit knows this. people go into therapy and expect them to be magically cured in a couple sessions. if you're just going to be standoffish and not put in effort, of course it's going to go nowhere for you. you get out what you put in. that's a lesson that can be applied to every relationship you ever will have.
>heh, therapy is only for STUPID people, unlike ME!if youre so enlightened what are you doing here
>>220095378Psychology is based on actual science, there is a lot to it honestly but many therapists are unsuited for the occupation. I don't want to bash women but many therapists are female and they made the choice to become therapists simply because they enjoy certain aspects of the work, like working with people, socializing, feeling needed and so on. But not the actual craft itself, understanding the human mind to the fullest extent and deepest level. Many female therapists have acted like jerks to me. They put their female BS into their work, letting it compromise your therapy.>>220095550There is even more to it. Sometimes therapy doesn't offer you what you actually needed. It's like having an older car that has a transmission, exhaust, brake calipers and head gasket that all needs replacement. You bring it to a car mechanic and he/she just replaces the brakes and head gasket. You would have been better off fixing the car yourself. You need the right treatment and therapist.
