He's just like meA complete mediocrity with no redeeming traits whose only talent is gamingThe only difference is he lives in a time where one could make a lifestyle out of that and have relative success and prestige if you happened to be born in the right social class
>>220092932>The only difference is he lives in a time where one could make a lifestyle out of thatYeah if you were born a noble. If Barry was born to a commoner family then he'd never leave his home town and spend his life plowing the potato field.
>>220092932>if you happened to be born in the right social classYeah, completely different from now. If your parent are rich today you're absolutely fucked, right?
>>220093419Barry's family wasn't rich thoughI guess the modern equivalent would be small business owners
>>220092932He had sovl in the first half of the movie, but he quickly lost it in the second half
he was a professional soldier and good at fencing. he also had guile and balls and took what he wanted. can you say the same?
All he had to do was to avoid antagonising his wife's son and he'd be all set but he just couldn't help himself.
>>220093611he also openly cheated on his wife and the narrator says he squanders her wealth. if it wasn't bullingdon it'd have been something else eventually. as is explained at one point, barry had the character to attain a fortune but not the character to keep it.
>>220093067>spend his life plowing the potato field.Seems like a peaceful chill life.>>220093504I didn't like the ending, I get Kubrick's intentions, but I would have love a happy ending when he reconcile with his wife and stepson, then has a peaceful death and he rest in peace next to his son's tomb.
>>220093882>reconcile You kidding right, try to picture the scene in your head. >sorry I cheated on you multiple times dear wife>sorry for physically abusing you stepson>sorry I killed our son with the horse I gave to him>Oh and sorry for literally destroying the family wealth and heritage
>>220092932>A complete mediocrity with no redeeming traits whose only talent is gamingBarry was an extremely talented duelist, the movie makes that clear.
>>220092932he was quite lucky, which is a subplot of the film. aka the LUCK of barry lyndon, for you illiterate fags
>>220094203Why did he do all that? By all accounts, he had won at life.>score a qt heiress who's obsessed with himAll he had to do was not be retarded.
he was a dumb fuck. he should have stayed with the german peasant and raise his wifes son on a comfy farm.
>>220096016>All he had to do was not be retarded. You'd have no movie
>>220096016>entering a relationship with an attractive woman automatically means you no longer need to worry about "winning" at lifeI seriously hope you guys don't do this
>>220096637This. Barry got greedy and it led to his undoing.
>>220092932gaming is many talents.the talent to strategize, to plan, to be a creative thinker.
he had an obsession with buggery
>>220092932>O'Neal was in a relationship with actress Farrah Fawcett from 1979 to 1997. The relationship was tumultuous due to his infidelity and volatile behavior. Fawcett ended the relationship after she discovered O'Neal in bed with actress Leslie Stefanson.>In her 2014 memoir, Anjelica Huston claimed that O'Neal physically abused her.>In her autobiography, A Paper Life, Tatum wrote that she had suffered physical and emotional abuse as a result of her father's drug abuse.>Griffin O'Neal also suggested their family's problems stemmed from Ryan. "My father gave me cocaine when I was 11 and insisted I take it", he said. Griffin added, "He was a very abusive, narcissistic psychopath. He gets so mad he can't control anything he's doing.">In 2007, O'Neal was arrested for shooting at Griffin, which he claimed was in self-defense; charges were dropped. O'Neal refused to allow Griffin to attend Fawcett's funeral in 2009. In 2009, O'Neal infamously hit on Tatum at Fawcett's funeral, not recognizing her as his daughter.>Redmond has struggled with drug addiction for most of his adult life. In 2008, O'Neal and Redmond were arrested for drug possession in their Malibu home. In 2018, Redmond was arrested and charged with attempted murder, robbery, assault and drug possession after he allegedly tried to rob a convenience store in Santa Monica. In an interview from jail he blamed his struggles on his parentsHe was a piece of shit
>>220096735>attractive >wealthy >titled>obsessed with youBarry was butthurt that he wasn't being accepted by the nobility. So fucking what. Suck it up. Dont fuck it up. What a dummy. Things would have gone down differently if it had been me.
>>220096016>Why did he do all that? Anon, did you not get this film? Barry is an asshole.
>I would have done things differentlyIf this is your response to a motion picture you're probably the same retard who complains about negroes and women being the main character in a story and your conversion to transplantable organs is the most you'll ever contribute to society
>>220094203>christian wife and stepsonI think they would forgive him if they saw he truly regrests his life choices.>>220096016>>220096681>>220098213Again, seeing how well done it's the film, it would have been nice a happy ending. It's interesting how in the era of endless remakes and sequels, we never get a comfy feels good kino-remake of an already kino.
>>220092932>The only difference is he lives in a time where one could make a lifestyle out of that and have relative success and prestige if you happened to be born in the right social classSo exactly like modern times.
>>220093882The ending is fine and true-to-life in its thematicsWhat I don't like is Kubrick's autism making the journey we take in the second half to get there not emotionally believable. If Barry's motivation for being a dick is complacency and sense of entitlement from thinking he's untouchable now, or the limits of his own life experience making themselves known in his actions, then that should have been communicated better, doesn't have to be explicit and handholding but as it stands the Barry in the first and second halves are so different they may as well have substituted a different actor they're such different people.
>>220096735Of course simpvirgins do that. But in Barry's case, she was wealthy too.
>>220098424Is this devastating insight also the explanation for your current unemployment
>>220098489Forgot to follow up my opening point- but as is common, Kubrick is too autistic to write or direct human beings, only great images. Paths Of Glory is his best imo. And A.I. is more interesting and rich in its thematics than Eyes Wide Shut, even after its Spielbergification.
>>220097576>Redmond Oneal>https://nypost.com/2026/04/24/us-news/redmond-oneal-flashes-devil-horn-tattoos-in-attempted-murder-case/wow
>>220092932Dont think about it too much, this movie was Kubrick playing G-d with a fictional character. He painted a flawed person on screen pretty well
