Why did so many people pretend the prequels were bad?
>>
>>220095417
Because redditlettermedia told them the prequels were le bad.
>>
Name a good prequel

Pic related is genuinely the best Star Wars film out of all of them
>>
>>220095466
If I had to judge the films independently and not account the revolutionary nature of the originals and the debut of the characters, there is a decent chance Episode III would rank best individual SW movie.

>Noir detective influence
>Kino art nouvaue(sp?) and other designs
>Great costumes
>Great color grading
>All criticisms are that awkward character's dialogue is awkward
Yep, it's kino

Most of his points, his 'critiques', don't hold up to scrutiny. More than half of what Stoklasa said was just a lie, put across in an amusing way. Using humor (it was funny at the time anyway) fooled a shit ton of ppl.

Boomers and then boomer millenials with received opinions
>>
>>220095417
because boomers see something that isn't a carbon copy of films from the 70s and decide they are bad

They held no opinion of their own. Most enjoyed the movies, then heard they shouldn't like them anymore. And like cattle they followed.
>>
>>220096622
It also has the best fight scene

no amount of contrarianism can convince me these movies were ever good
>>
>>220096824
same. I knew episode I was shit after watching it in theaters as a goddamn 12 year old.
>>
>>220096872
phantom menace is the best one though
>>
>>220096622
Literally some of the best sound design.
Even if the plot isn't stellar, it is one of the best designed films, and the prequels have that too.
Meanwhile the sequels has BB8, Kylo's lightsaber... Literally nothing else.
>>
>>220095417
I thought ep 1 was dogshit while leaving the theater and didn't know who RLM were at the time
>>
>>220095417
because the director was caught in a catch-22. If he made a good movie, it would be different from Star Wars. If he made more Star Wars, it wouldn't be a good movie. He chose to make more Star Wars.
>>
>>220095417
Episode 1 is the greatest children's live action sci fi of all time and its not ever looked at in that way. Episode 1 had has much affect on under 12s as Harry potter did.
Then they grew up and said the movie sucked even though thats why they know star wars to begin with
>>
>>220097005
For evidence of this, just look at the good parts of the prequels. What drags them down? You have Ewan and all these other good actors, but they're chained to a narrative that's already happened, especially Obi-Wan is just going through the motions to bring the story along like a bored, unwilling Gandalf. His only real emotional moment is when Neeson dies, a character and relationship that was fully new to the prequels. It's not like the events of Star Wars are a distant influence, the movie has to constantly shift focus back to them in order to build towards their conclusion. It's a huge fucking anchor.

People for some reason started to really think of movies as something they're not. A movie is just a bit of entertainment for an evening. Really, that's it. Does it entertain you? Then it's a good movie. Who cares what someone else thinks? It's really not a competition. It's you sitting in your house watching shit. I can pop in Phantom Menace right now, skip to the final act, and enjoy all the fun shit happening. How? I can enjoy things for what they are because I'm an adult and don't need others to validate my feelings. Imagine that.

Comparing Phantom Menace to the first movie of the original trilogy:

- None of the leads are as engaging.
- The effects have aged worse because CGI advances quickly, so when viewed with modern eyes the movie from 1999 looks worse than the movie from 1977.
- The male lead is a shit actor. Mark Hamill isn't a great actor by any means, but I least believe what he's saying. The scene where Jake Lloyd is flying around and "talking to R2-D2" made me cringe as a 12 year old because his acting is so shit.
- The final rebel assault on the Death Star is way more exciting than the battle of Naboo or whatever the fuck it was.

All TPM has going for it is the lightsaber fights, which are well choreographed and cool.

They are bad in a fun happy and exciting way. Very interesting to talk about. A lot of movies are bad in a boring way.

The writing style and lack of capitalization suggests you’re responding to yourself.

Why were they so unwilling to present Rey in any sexualised capacity like this?
>>
>>220095727
Literally the worst of the three PT.

Awesome movie, best prequel for sure
>>
>>220097474
When I first watched it i was unsure if Rey was a very cute boy or a woman is probably why
>>
>>220097474
It's so much worse than that. They knowingly cast an actress with endometriosis pussy disease to forestall any possibility of sexuality ever. Peak scold era
>>
>>220097474
Remember the x on Luke’s face?
Because ray isn’t the princess. She’s the knight because women strong or whatever. Clueless Hollywood shaved head Hollywood menhaters. They have no idea what men or women want. I mean they actully thought there was a female audience for dorkwars
>>
>>220097292
No. They're good.
>>
>>220095417
Because they were actually a lot more complex than the OT which was just adventure slop like Indians Jones
>>
>>220097767
the closeup shots of the clones should have been actual costumes
i appreciate george lucas's unapologetic autism for such things but the cgi clones have not aged well at all

Completely agree and it's my only real complaint

I remember really looking forward to seeing Clonetroopers in costume doing cool shit and was incredibly disappointed when it didn't happen, even at the time it was way too obvious that they were CG

Still a great movie tho
>>
>>220095438
which plebbit told all of you to endlessly repeat that disliking the prequels came from a jewtube talking head.
i saw them in the cinemas and was disappinted, as was anyone who liked the originals. the ones who are sincere fans of the prequels were young children when they came out and formed an attachment to them.
it's as simple as that
>>
>>220095417
Why are so many Indians confused about what qualifies as good filmmaking? It's not just special effects flying around on the screen, or ominous posturing. There needs to be a story to justify that.
>>
>>220096818
it feels there wasn't much action in the prequels as a whole.
especially light sabre stuff, which is odd as you have thought it would be commonplace in such a setting and era.

This.
Mike was frame-mogging the Star Wars dialectic during the early 2000s. Once his testosterone died down, everyone woke up from the spell.
