>>220098539He did have plenty of solo shows and specials. But doing the massive team up 2 hour comedy specials was a proven formula back then. People were more willing to spend more money on a show that's built up as a big event. Gives better exposure, with each comedian bringing in their own audiences and mingling them together. And renerally speaking, it's just easier, because they each only really need a 20 or 30 minute set, instead of needing to carry an entire hour long show on their own. That's why other comedians kept trying to ape the model
