Michael Jackson was a mediocre musician propped up by a revolving door of elite musicians, NOT a genius. He does not deserve a biopic this masturbatory.
>>
Is Mike Myers really in this or was that just a joke?
>>
>>220098047
Shalom rabbi, or hi zoomer!
You clearly were not present/or lie becouse you are devious, when Michael Jackson was active. He was the King of Pop. Madonna (before the aliens abducted her) was the Queen. The Prince was... well the Prince. There was nobody, I mean nobody who questioned this. Not even tgose who disliked their music (not using haters, becouse back then if you disliked something, you didn't start to invest time to hate smth, like creating a thread in a mongolian basket weaving forum, you just ignored said thing, like a sane person).
I pity you.
>>
>>220098047
He has an outerworldly voice, how can you fake that? I get goosebumps every time he opens his mouth. I give you 24 hours to come up with an explanation, Shlomo.

There has never been another performer like Michael Jackson since. There likely will never be so again at this rate.
>>
He absolutely was The King.
All the greats have died and nobody has replaced them. Music as a business has changed a lot, making and especially distributing music is a lot more accessible than before but it really feels like the age of the stars is over.
>>
>>220099761
wasn't michael jackson just a joke for decades before he faked his death?

It might've worked as a part 1 out 2 biopic but to just call this his entire biopic is fucking retarded

>I worship pop culture icons like a subhuman retard! That means you're wrong.
>>
>>220099957
I'd say public opinion on Jackson has been split 50/50 since the 90s. For every naysayer there's a defender, as you can see in the Jackson threads we have here. It was like this before his death, too.
>>
>>220102200
You don't and WILL NEVER understand, zoomer. Like the Pyramids, there will be no other entertainer who can reach the fame that MJ did. He was universally known globally. Tribesmen in deep Amazon and Papuan jungles and Eskimoes in the frozen north know of him. He was loved by all races, age, religion, politics, nationality, gender and genre. No other entertainer has ever come close afterwards. However, he was anti Zionist (not even that, he was anti killing kids in wars regardless of side) but the Israelis can't have that. So they began their campaign to bring him down, which still continues to this day.
>>
>>220102504
Nope. The public loves him. It's the AIPAC plants who hates him.
>>
>>220098047
You don't get it.
Every pop star is a mediocre musician by definition. Pop stars are a different discipline to musician or singer or songwriter.
If someone was a really great singer songwriter they would not be popstars.

Opera singers = best singers
Poets = best songwriters
Instrumentalists = best musicians

Pop stars are more in the realm of influencers. They're best at selling a brand image of themselves.
Though MJ was definitely a master in the art of dance.
So he was a dancer, and also a humanitarian.

Yeah, I know the discussion around Jackson will always be vexed by antisemitic conspiracy theories on /tv/, but this board doesn't reflect the wider world. I've never heard anyone IRL offer the "jew me/sue me" lyric as proof of Michael's innocence.

Among normies, the conversation breaks into two camps: 1) he must have been a pedo because there were too many red flags, and 2) no no Michael was just trying to reclaim his lost childhood.

This is very false. You can think whatever you want about his personal life etc., but he was very very talented, and "brilliant" musically.

How? He made like three good pop songs and a bunch of mediocre ones. He was an average singer, he didn't play any instruments, and he had tons and tons of help from other musicians on all of his music. People just jerk him off because he was a good dancer and entertainer.

I don't have any emotional attachment to him or his work, so I can look at his stuff mostly objectively. He is a UNIQUE presence in all of his media. Even something like 'The Wiz,' which is kind of a mess. He has an aura of weight and sadness to him which kind of makes him seem 'bigger' than his slender frame and delicate speaking voice would otherwise suggest.

His visual presentation was almost messianic in a certain way. Physical poses, the themes in a bunch of songs, the wardrobe, etc. I get the sense that people imputed some kind of spiritual significance to him.

It's also interesting that he didn't release very many albums during his career. Elvis or Sinatra fans have dozens of studio albums to play with; Jackson fans have 10. And 4 of those are from his adolescence; he only made 6 studio albums as an adult.

No one else ever had that combination of messianic imagery, weird distinctive presence, and sparse recording career which led fans to fixate very intensely on a limited pool of material.

>the metric of singing
Timbre? Range? Resonance? Breath control? Versatility? Pitch control? Singing is multifaceted. Elvis didn't use his falsetto much, and MJ did, so I guess that's the one point you could give Michael. But Elvis had a very powerful singing voice, Michael Jackson just did not. If you personally like his vocal delivery that's one thing, but by "objective" metrics Elvis was better.
>>

> Michael Jackson was a mediocre musician propped up by a revolving door of elite musicians, NOT a genius

Yeah, no. And I’m one that will actually condemn all of his predatory, deviant behavior. He did work with some truly gifted musicians, composers, and arrangers but he was a great musician, and showman, in his own right.
>>
Elvis was a good singer, but he wasn't elite level. Neither was Michael. They were both top tier entertainers. Elvis could sort of croon, Michael couldn't have done it if his life depended on it. Michael couldn't and didn't even like singing rock and roll. They're not comparable as they operated in different fields. For me the greatest singer was Ray Charles. Pure fucking SOVL.
>>
>>220110536
I mean that's not bad singing but it's not particularly great either.

>>220111041
Unless Ray Charles has massively better singing on his deep cuts than his top songs I just skimmed through, then yes. You can like his music or his vocal delivery, but the singing isn't anything super impressive, although it is well executed.

>>
>>220111257
yeah he was the biggest thing on earth for a while
>>
>>220111281
Yeah? I'm comparing him to other singers of his time. He was average compared to other pop and rock stars. You need some level of talent to be on that level, I'm not saying he was a median 50th percentile singer of the general population.
>>
>>220111274
1. Created the first truly high production music videos that had choreography and a story to them instead of just being recordings of live events
2. One of the first musicians to blend genres with R&B and rock music
3. Quite literally broke multiple records and outsold all his competitors multiple times over. Even his worst albums went double platinum
>>
>>220111257
>Michael Jackson revolutionized popular music 3 times over
No, he didn't. Not even once. Selling a lot of records is not a revolution. Thriller is his most "groundbreaking" album and there's absolutely nothing new on it.
>>
>>220098097
He is and he's very convincing in his small, but important role.

This movie was exactly what you would expect from his story. Super glossy, very accurate portrayal of him. Only skirts around his odd behavior and masks it by making his dad the villain and him being "unique".
I grew up in the 80's and I can admit it was pretty cool to see all the big moments on a screen like this: 25th Motown, Thriller, etc.
Of course it touches on all the infamous stuff, his pets/friends, Pepsi, etc.
It also captures the frenzy of crowds when they would see him very well. Sheer insanity.

However, no matter if it's hearing a song of his or the MJ Cirque show, or any movie, it's in the back of my mind what he did to those kids. Hell, even before the meat of the accusations came out we called him "Wacko Jacko", cuz he was fucking weird and everyone knew it.

Factually untrue. Toto was doing exactly that before Thriller (and many of the musicians from Toto performed on Thriller). Pretty much of his stuff pre-Thriller was written by others for him.

So he was popular. Great.

It's partly a joke but at least one person who's been in Toto performed on every single song on the album. The greater point is that the entire album was made by session musicians, and Michael himself only has writing credits on four songs. Now to be fair to him two of those songs are the most successful, but having a few pop hits isn't enough to make a great album IMO. Also Toto made pretty similar music, pop/rock/R&B type of stuff.
