Sure. The virtue of being at all, is the process of understanding god, consciously or not. Life is the spiritual journey as they say. That said how efficiently does looking under a microscope get you to know god that might be better spent in devotion or complete surrender. The Buddha spent a decade wandering and studying every way of yoga and philosophy to understand life but he only attained enlightenment after he made the resolve in himself that he was going to sit under that Bodhi tree until the goal was reached or he was dead.
