When I was in the army (non-American, compulsory military service) I was a gunner for a tank similar to the one in the movie. In order for the cannon to fire, the driver must rev up the engine to generate enough power to fire the electrical trigger. Of course that's not the reason he stays in the movie, but some quick trivia as to how these shitbox tanks operate.
