naruto is a bad story with samey arcs and action "just because" or flashy moments "just because". also one of naruto's biggest motivators throughout the show is rescuing sasuke but they didn't do a proper job establishing a close connection between naruto and sasuke, so naruto's actions feel fucking insane. this isn't some trivial detail. it completely destroys my immersion/investment. there's always a feeling that none of this makes sense and it's just an excuse for kishimoto to make flashy shit happen.hxh is way better and one of the greatest anime of all time. it has pacing/exposition issues but those flaws come nowhere close to undermining the entire universe such that i'm unable to care about anything. with hxh i think "ugh more pointless exposition about a fucking elevator but at least togashi will do something interesting with the arc". with naruto i think "ugh none of this makes any fucking sense this guy had enough resolve to nuke a city but changes his mind and revives everyone because a teenager talk no jutsu'd him. i don't care about this otherwise cool killer bee fight scene because this isn't a coherent fucking story". one piece is shit too btw
