>Flintstones (1994)What went wrong?
>>220128428Terrible casting
>>220128467Wtf the casting was one of the things that went right
>>220128467Only for Betty (and even then she got the personality down). Everyone else was great.
>>220128428Its basically a great movie so i dont know. I remember being moody at the time, the atmosphere probably tasted different or someyhing. Or maybe a feeling like ‘i knew it was going to be live action but its not enough of a cartoon, we have The Dinosaurs at home
>>220128467Except the B52s
>>220128428>What went wrong? It was a live action Flintstones
>>220128428live action cartoons are always a mistake
>>220128467Only Betty sucked, and that's mostly because of Rosie's looks; acting and the laugh were generally on point.
>>220128428It was already too hot and dusty in that time and people were trying to watch digital quicksilver to cool off
I watched a bunch of the Flintstones and I don't remember what a single episode was about
>>220128687>>220128701the flintstones is literally just a cartoon honeymooners, the premise of converting it back is fine
>>220128428>1994At the time the entire pop culture landscape was catering to Bart-like kids with grossout humor, metal and "violence". This was slowly but surely also morphing into postmodern cynicism.Flintstones were not a good fit for that. It's a very dadcore material, there are no cool kids for the younger audience to insert and the jokes are just dadcore jokes between the adults. It's a very creative movie but it lacked that. You can compare it to The Addams Family which came out three years earlier and did have younger characters as cast members and grossout humor so that was a better match for a wider audience.
>>220128659*Especially the B52s.
>>220128779Same. I could list a ton of reoccurring things in it, but I don't think I could actually isolate it to individual episodes.
>>220128810>Flintstones>Addams Family>Lost In Space>My Favorite Martian>Dennis The Menace>Space Jam>Casper>Beverly HillbilliesThey really milked boomer nostalgia at this time, basically like the 80s/90s reboots of today.
>>220128428>yesterday senile father barges in my room asking me if i can find him a live action flintstones tshirt>as soon as i get home from work this thread is on the front page
>>220128955How much did the shirt cost?
>>220128779They went to the fuckin lodge and argued on the lawn and Fred was lazy at work and came home and sat on the couch and wilma came in like ‘Fred here’s your cavemanwhich!’ or some shit and a small dinosaur popped put of an appliance and said ‘eh its a living!’
>>220128973i cant find it. he said he got it from mcdonalds when they were promoting the movie. i showed him images from search engines but he said none are the right one
>>220128937idk if space jam really counts, looney tunes was (is?) still a living property, and at least 50% of the star power came from the NBA anyway
>>220128937Its a 30 year cycle of nostalgia sales isnt it?
I just realized that Fred is basically Homer.
>>220129019I remember my sister saying in retrospect how retarded the fashion of the early 20s with crop tops and low-hanging jeans wasNowadays that shit is coming right backNot complaining about every teen showing tummy though
>>220129039yes, the simpsons is also basically just a riff on the honeymooners
>>220129049ozempic caused this
>>220129049Early 2000s*
>>220128428Being right in their target demographic at the time, I thought it was great. Though it helped that I really liked dinosaurs, John Goodman, and Rick Moranis. Then, I have a second layer of nostalgia for it, because I lost my virginity in my 20s at a girl’s place while we were watching it.I would give it to Wilma so fucking hard.
>>220129026Imagine the odors radiating from her stinky shit encrusted asshole and pussy. You could probably smell her a mile away
I rewatched it recently.Pretty good still. The props and sets were great.
>>220129292>$2.99All boomers must hang. I don’t care if that means your papa and nana, who are just the sweetest things, they have to go.
>>220129807The average hourly wage in the US was 89c at the time though.
>>220129018Yeah space jam doesn't count because looney tunes was still hot then(because of tiny toons) and michael jordan was massive
Weird. I had a dream last night about Halle Barry in her costume from this movie (or was it Viva Rock Vegas?) and she was swinging on a vine like George of the Jungle.
>>220128955Hello son. Move out.
>>220128937Addams Family and Dennis were great. Casper was badly written but should've been a trilogy. Universal is making Archie next, I *WISH* it was animated.
>>220128937Don't forget The Little Rascals, Dragnet, Brady Bunch, and George of the Jungle.
>>220128508>Only for Betty (and even then she got the personality down)This. If you close your eyes it sounds perfect. It's just that Hollywood was intent on pushing Rosie on the public.
>>220132043>Casper was badly written but should've been a trilogy.I recall liking Casper, but I honestly don't know how much of that is residual Pizza Hut puppet comfiness and "Oh wow, Ray from Ghostbusters is in this!"
>>220128428>What went wrong?Nothing. This movie is great.
>>220132043based Juggie keeping his eyes on the prize
4K Stonebook. Heh.
>>220128508>>2201287481994 Rosie O'Donnell wasn't eye candy, but she wasn't that ugly either. All things considered it was an ok casting, while everyone else was spot on.
>>220132043I have long suspected that Oda based Usopp on Jughead, but I have never seen any confirmation of that.
>>220134995the long nose is a nod to Pinocchio. plausibly the way he draws it is based on archie, but i'd kinda guess it's more like it's based on some other mangaka's style who was inspired by jughead
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ujqcr25-WCkIt was pretty good but I never understood why they only cast black people
