I don't get it?
>>220132083There nothing to get
>>220132083just enjoy it bro x
>>220132083idk
>>220132083bump
You can go suck a fuck.
>>220132083the rabbit is him
Did you watch the director cut?
>>220132083Wasn't there a sequel?
>>220132083It's an incredibly overrated film. Some good parts but not THAT many.
>>220132524No. Does that matter?
No one remembers who you are, it's time to move on
>>220132582I think it explains shit more? That's the one I saw personally
Is this movie any good?
It's about sacrifice. It's what good men have done throughout all of millenia.
>>220132829Like Jesus
>>220133187Aye, lad. Like the Christ.
>>220132083Southland Tales is unironically the better movie and one of the most underrated movies of the 2000s
>>220132083It's a remake of Harvey
This film is more enjoyable to watch when you're depressed
>>220132083it's basically a time travel movie where he allows himself to die because everyone else is better off if it happens. the butterfly effect did a similar thing
>>220132083he's literally me
>>220133257The theatrical version or what?
>>220134968why's that?
>>220132626Yeah it does. The theatrical cut doesn't explain any goddamned thing.
>>220132083its about the immutability of man.
>>220132626>>220135619No it doesn't? The only thing the Directors cut includes are weird ass esoteric visuals and tiny bit of insight into Grandma Death's book about time travel. From what I've theorized and gathered, is that """"The Universe"""" that we live in can become corrupted from time to time, and when that happens "the universe" turns off free will and starts selecting people to fix everything. "The chosen one's" body is then taken over so that they can complete the tasks to fix everything, and everyone around them unconsciously becomes his aid in trying to correct things. Sometimes "the chosen one" can become self aware, like Grandma Death, and eventually Donnie. When Donnie finally does become self aware, he realizes dying once the world "resets" will have a net positive, so he does it. From what I remember, the Director's cut sheds light on the fact that people can "remember" their vessel life from before the reset, which explains why everyone at the end is crying or reflecting, or suddenly "waking up". (Theyre remembering bits of their life before the reset.) Other than that, nothing else is really revealed or explained.
.
>>220136251Thanks for that Im going to be seriously pissed off if nobody reads my blog post above yours
General opinion is the director's cut is worse but I don't care enough to have any opinion about it.
>well hello beautiful
it's a cool movie, you don't always need to understand stuff let your brain be itself once in a while.
I hate time travel
>>220136487I understand but I enjoy hearing people's opinions or theories. I enjoy the mystery but hearing others insight helps me better understand.
>>220136431she can suck my fuck
>>220136557how does one suck a fuck?
Donnie survives when he shouldn't. This causes a ripple effect which exposes a child rapist. The jewish storyteller can't allow such a bad ending to happen so Donnie dies instead.
>>220136520Its a pocket reality not time travel.
>>220135582Because it will draw you deeper into the themes explored in the film. It’s not the kind of thing you’d want to watch during the best phases of your life, you’d probably find it repulsive.
>>220132083There’s nothing to get. It’s a steamy pile of horseshit. Simple as.
>>220132829So what does the rabbit have to do with anything
>>220135905So how does the bunny ghost fit into this
>>220132083It's not that hard to get. The style is very crazy and belligerent but not really obscure.
>>220132083neoplatonism, the pseudo dude weed version
>>220132083Every young person has their Nietzsche phase
At what point did the movie click for you guys? For me it was the Head Over Heals scene.
I question your commitment to sparkle motion
>>220139108He's also aiding Donnie to fix the universe. He's coaching Donnie on how to use his powers and telling him how much time he has left
>>220139108>>220138321Ok but what exactly was the bunny ghost? A space traveler who found a wormhole?
>>220140052But how is he co-existing in the same plane as the non-ghost version of himself, and why is he the only ghost?>>220140255I haven't watched the movie in years but I remember he was originally some retard wearing a bunny costume on Halloween that got shot by Donnie
>>220132564It's just all around comfy
>>220140255>>220139108Donnie deliberately kills him at some point in the time loops because he needs him to direct him in the right way, or whatever, in future loops. It's just part of the checklist of things that Donnie needs to do in order to try and end the loop. That's why he kills him without remorse.
>>220133257It's GOATed in my book brother
>>220132524the directors cut has a way worse soundtrack
>>220132083Donnie Darko feels like a live action adaptation of the kind of anime that plays on Toonami at 4am.
Why would the universe better without Donnie ? He's just a edgy teen not galactus
>>220132083>>220135905The tl;dr is that sometimes parallel (pocket) universes get created because of a glitch in time. This pocket universe is unstable and collapses eventually. The copied people in the pocket universe kind of turn into NPCs while one person becomes the protagonist (Donnie).Donnie surviving the plane crash creates a pocket universe and the movie plays in that pocket universe. He has to accept that this reality will be destroyed and in the end he accepts that he was meant to die. It's all very teenage doom and gloom. The feeling that you are supposed to experience is being in a hopeless situation and accepting your own demise
>>220140722Oh and in this pocket universe he briefly experiences happiness (getting a girlfriend) that he did not experience in his previous life. That makes the pocket universe not completely pointless.
>>220139749At the beginning when Frank tells Donnie when the world will end. The whole vibe instantly intrigued me as a 12 year old
This was the essential movie for every lol so randum invader zim emo tween of the mid 2000s why is it suddenly so popular again?
>>220132083it's probably the easiest ever timeline/self-fulfilling prophecy movie to understandthis doesn't bode well for your future if this one's giving you trouble, i'd stay away from primer if i were you
>>220140600He doesn't have to kill himself at the end, i think.Roberta Sparrow is still alive. He just chooses not to move away from the falling engine
>>220142299Does it make you feel smart for understanding Primer?
>>220143184Not really, I don't need films to bolster my self-esteem. I already know I'm great.
>>220140722To add to this most of the movie is the world basically manipulating him into closing the pocket universe. All those black outs are the world setting events that will to him getting with the girlfriend, getting his little sister on the plane and getting his girlfriend killed so that he will send the engine though the portal.
>>220136805What's the difference?
>>220140722>>220141121I'm a retard but what is a pocket universe exactly?
>>220142067>Popular nowIs it?
>>220142299I think 12 Monkies is easier to understand than this movie but thats because it feels more upfront about it
>>220146278In the movie it's a small temporary copy of the real universe. A "parallel universe" might be a better term, except it isn't real fully self-contained universe that can exist on its own. It only exists temporarily in order to fix a glitch in the proper universe.
I just love this movie. The atmosphere is perfect
