What space franchise has the coolest spaceships? Any medium is allowed.
>>220142677Star Trek. It's the only time sci fi wasn't marred by cynicism and dystopian visuals.

>>220142677>What space franchise has the coolest spaceships?Star Wars.
>>220142677Star Trek obviously. It's not even close.
>>220143354Boob ship is kinda kino ngl
>>220143481Look at the little baby newfag
Space Above and Beyond, BSG, Aliens, Probably BSG honestlypicunrel
I'm rather fond of Babylon 5's ships..
>>220142677Star Trek definitely.I like human ships in Stargates, SW has a couple of very iconic designs and I'm somewhat amused by WH4K cathedrals in space, but ST (the actual one obviously) clears this one
>>220144417Lol, it looks like nothing
LoGHTMP-VOY era Star Trek
>>220142677I like Elite's starshipsThey're mostly simple geometric shapes because they're based on a 1984 wireframe graphics game

>>220142677Halo. It's a tragedy that a Halo movie trilogy wasn't made in the late 2000s/early 2010s. Now it's too late, any attempt would be woke and gay.
>>220145020Definitely. They absolutely nailed the aesthetics for military and civilian, human and alien, good and bad. Like the white star is absolutely what a main hero ship should be. And the shadow vessels are especially iconic (well they are in air and in space but maybe less so on the ground).
>>220148103I always loved the Shadow ships phasing in and out of space.
>>220142677either the ships from the culture series by Iian M Banks or light hugger ships from the revelation space series by Alistair Reynolds.
>>220148438looks boring and plain
I think Vader's big ship is the coolest
>>220148502same
>>220148502
>>220142677I think Star Trek's ships from the original era before the pozzed modern stuff were really cool in a scifi and logistical sense. Totally far out there in terms of tech with the warp drives and stuff, but still sort of based on scientific theory. You could imagine those things being manufactured in the future and being operated by a space navy. There's something satisfying about how they had a unified aesthetic and consistent design principles. The Expanse is another good one. It has ships that not only look cool, but work fairly realistically with acceleration-based gravity, despite the fusion engines being fictional technology.A lot of other scifi ships are conceptually mid tier even if some of them look cool, like the ones in Star Wars.
>>220144451>let's put the cockpit on the side and block half the pilot's field of vision
>>220148228Kek, that show had so many bad actors.
>>220149768You know they don't fly the space shuttle by looking out the window, right
>>220142677There's something extremely appealing about Star Trek federation ship design. All other ships in the series are kitbash garbage, but they hit a home run with the design language of the hull/saucer/nacelle configuration.
>>220142677>>220149907
>>220143481not even a 40k fag but you're a legit retard if you think that looks like star wars.
>>220150128Anon this is a blue board
>>220149869Then what are the windows for smart guy?
>>220148438I like them
>>220149114>It has ships that not only look cool, they look like generic containers>but work fairly realistically with acceleration-based gravity, they don't. They are as realistic as xwings. Zipping and maneuvering at high speed without crushing anyone
>>220150128
>>220150516Crew comfort and viewing
>>220150559Excuse me but those ships are often crewed by belters, people who were born and bred in space and therefore capable of high g space maneuvers despite being unable to stand up on earth because of the gravity.
>>220142677Macross/Robotech.
>>220149869If they don't need to see out the windows why does a 17 km long ship need an exposed bridge that the enemy can just kamikaze a fighter into?
>>220147536Problem?
>>220150895in start wars sensors jamming is real issue and such bridge gives actual visual confirmation for command(ask Lucas why no one uses cameras i dont know) and its not like its easy target it has strong shields etc braching that would be the same as breaching ship anywhere else and there is better targets like ships generator. Also there is second bridge for emergencies deeper inside ship.
>>220148228>>220149827That was a good episode. I believe it was the first time we saw a shadow ship. They blew up that ship to retrieve an artifact for Londo, and then Londo returns it to his government for a bunch of exp points. It's how Mr. Morden gets Londo to "trust" him initially. But yeah it's funny how that guy reacts.
>>220147536it could be plasma then shooting plasma with another plasma would make cense as they will disrupt each other and disperse. Or its just torpedoes like in Start trek
>>220150895>>220151835RoTJ is just retarded.Even ships in WW2 had back up command stations/bridges.
>>220151892then
>>220144269The OG Battlestars are aesthetic as fuck. Can't deny.
trek. klingon and romulan ships specifically
>>220151906I think the Executor would have been fine in any other situation. It was too close to the Death Star and ended up in its gravitational pull when it lost navigational control. The whole battle was a clusterfuck of bad decisions due to overconfidence and hubris.
>>220151892really enjoying Andromeda so far.I'm told it turns to shit in S2. I'll see for myself soon. But honestly some the episodes have been pretty heavy, so I can understand the perspective of wanting to lighten things up.
>>220152034That's why it's retarded; there should have been a back up system to take over to prevent that.Imo, it's an issue with the script and not an issue with in-universe ship design.
>>220151884Discharging photon torpedoes while right on top of another ship seems incredibly reckless.
>>220152187Starships that can travel trillions of miles a day fighting each other at a distance of ten paces seems incredibly stupid.
>>220148502>>220148566why didn't they intensify it
>>220152247I never liked how combat was depicted in Star Trek. I don't mind the short distances, but I do mind that these massive star ships are flying around like nimble fighters.Andromeda had the same problem.
>>220152256It was too late >>220148502>Gondor ship yardsWhat was their worker injury policy?
Trek for elegant and gorgeous designs. The Expanse for stuff that's more realistic and grounded.
>>220151923This ship never looked good
>>220153457
>>220153527
>>220148502Funfact: it was originally going to be a regular Star Destroyer with some red paint on it to save some because the budget on Empire went fucking nuts, but Lucas decided to spend the cash and make the SSD.

>>220153618Holy kino. I haven't seen this flom in a decade and I forgot how great the bad guy's ship is.

>>220152069i watched it long ago, but the crew and factions design was really solid, especially the nietzscheans
>>220150128It still irks me that they put both Trek and Star Wars in the hands of retards who don’t understand how much it damages immersion and verisimilitude when you allow the big capital ships to drop down this close to a planet’s surface. It’s like seeing an aircraft carrier in the local creek.
>>220153585Gorgeous. Bless him for it.
>>220147935Halo has the best ship naming scheme, In Amber Clad, PIllar of Autumn, Spirit of Fire

>>220154039It can be kino when done correctly
>>220153618>>220153670His ship design works so well to convey "giant predator open mouth" so it's extremely satisfying when Tim announces we're dragging mines

TOS/TMP era Trek, OT era Star Wars and classic BSG. Honorable mentions to 2001 and Space: 1999.
