I like this movie, and whilst I enjoy how Beatty played it straight, I think he played it almost too straight and prevented it from being a bigger hit by sucking out too much fun. In reality it plays out like a fairly by-the-numbers noir just with an absolutely kino aesthetic.
One of the best literal comic book adaptations ever created. All matte paintings and practical effects, the way it’s suppose to be.
why can't capeshit be more like this?
>>220149100Because Hollywood is gayer than nigger AIDS and doesn’t know when to stop using CGI.
>>220148641This was a good movie but drowned out but the other kinos of the era and the Batman 89 comparison. Megatheaters werent really around in 1990 but they would be shortly afterwards. Dick got crowded out.
>>220149429Yea, it came out literally one year after Batman, which took a commercial buzzsaw to any surrounding competition. I think Dick Tracy would’ve succeeded further if it came out later.
>"I'm rubbing him out!"Pruneface was a real nigga
Dustin Hoffman as Mumbles is one of the greatest casting decisions ever made.
>>220150405The Tess actress is dead as Dillenger.
When do we eat?
>>220150819Kek. That scene is ridiculous.
>>220151255Kid is an orphan because Dick Tracy murdered his Dad in a shed.
Looks really nice, too bad the writing is shit.
>>220148641Flat Top scared the shit out of me.
Madonna was hotter than hell in that see-through number.
>>220148724I think Beatty playing it straight is the whole point. He's a straight-laced, no-nonsense cop in a world full of absurd and colorful villains. The dude is such a square and a prude he almost fumbles a girl who spends every hour of her day fawning over him.
