they all suffer from fragmented storylines from different characters doing different things with different stakes and pacing. you could argue fellowship is almost flawless from its upbeat opening, revealing the plot, the introduction of characters and then the ever darkening journey and its climax. the other movies just lack the tightness? i'm not even sure the best way of describing it but there's far too much waste in those movies

Correct, it doesn't matter in story terms where the city gets the food to survive, just that they have it.
It matters for worldbuilding. Good that you finally understood the difference.

it is pretty silly that they didn't do farmsteads in the pelennor at least. like it wouldn't really affect anything, just put a few indications in the background of a few shots. and then the wide shots are miniatures, right? just add some hedgerows, lines of trees, and low stone walls. you could leave basically everything as-is for 95% of shots in/around minas tirith.
>>
It's called visual storytelling. It's supposed to be the nadir of Gondor in its history. Hence the bleak overcast shots in autumn/winter. A literal Satan is about to take over both Gondor and the rest of the Middle Earth, remember? Truly you people can't watch for shit.

revisionist zoomer view.

first film has maybe the longest most ridiculous and over the top fight scene (and a couple more…) and the others have loads of hijinks like gimli getting smashed at rohan and the hobbits getting stoned in isengard.
>>
>>220155302
>they all suffer from fragmented storylines from different characters doing different things with different stakes and pacing.
That's basically what Tolkien himself said when he was presented with a script for a movie that jumbled the storylines after Fellowship.
From letter 210:
>The narrative now divides into two main branches: 1. Prime Action, the Ringbearers. 2. Subsidiary Action, the rest of the Company leading to the ‘heroic’ matter. It is essential that these two branches should each be treated in coherent sequence. Both to render them intelligible as a story, and because they are totally different in tone and scenery. Jumbling them together entirely destroys these things.

>>220153062
The choice to make the Othram white is a shame since visually the black contrasts so good against the white. Also the omission of the Rammas Echor sucks but was probably cut from the visual effects at the last minute due to budget or time constraints. Theoden even mentions it in the movie as he's giving commands before the Rohirrim charge

I no longer can stand rewatching Two Towers and RotK.
Jackson for some reason decided to turn off the colors and make Rohan and Gondor barely less of a wasteland than Mordor, while it was not the case in the books. Yes, surely desolation took bigger part in second and third books but they still were much more green and magical than movies.
It didn't help that Jackson cut some of a more mysterious stuff from the TT and RotK like those people who let Rohan take a shortcut path to Gondor, Dol Amroth and Pellenor green and other more minor but important things that worked on magic and beauty of TT and RotK.
Second and Third are just boring to look at outside specific scenes (Rohirrim Cavalry, Gandalf vs Witch King) and those you can just watch on jewtube.
Fellowship though still stands the test of time.

nah, i am millenial but zoomers are right. even back I felt the magic of first movie is gone in the other movies. i despiced the depiction of rohan (where do they get te construction wood? wait there's forest, why do they live in the middle of nowhere and not near the game?) and minas tirith (what do they eat?). but part of the problem is also tolkien's disdolution of the fellowship and tracking multiple journeys simultaneously.

Looks like a toilet bowel.

I dont' particularly like the balance changes in 5.5, vanilla 5 with the AI turn speed fix is fine to me. Some OP shit but nowhere near how broken 3 is, anyways.

>I'm a 100% red blooded born and raised in America MAGA supporter.
How do you do fellow MAGA American?
I agree, the LoTR movies are deeply flawed, Tolkien fans deserve more book-accurate works made for a modern audience.

Why did I read that in his voice.

Whose voice?

That's not a cherry orchard, dumbass

LotR is the best adaptation you'll ever have of the books, in fact of ANY source. Never we will have something as close to the original as with the first trilogy.

What game?

He definitely took the "fallen world" idea to its absolute limit. Tolkien always gets praised for his worldbuilding, but the world feels very small and sparsely populated, even if you were to put out your farm fields outside of minas tirith.

Man that show went to shit after they got to the basement.

Jackson made it way cooler with the apocalyptic feeling and edgy horror designs. Tolkien was such a fucking pussy and dropped a great idea for a LOTR sequel because it was too dark and depressing for him. He was such a tard that he imagined Smaug as some fucking pathetic worm with wings and all the Hobbit adaptations made him way more imposing.

There are faggots still mad that the story did not stop to a halt so Tom Bombadil can sing in his gay forest. If Tolkien was alive today he would be just as insufferable as his dumbass son about the movies being better than his books.

>that pic is god awful.
Yes, it looks more like a sci-fi Star Wars city than something inspired by medieval period, it even has a spaceship landing platforn
>>
>>220153637
I just realized, That cliff is meant to be pointing to the east, towards Minas Morgul with the mountains behind going to the west. Which means that the Sun is on the north side of the cliff! Fucking Jackson put Gondor in the Southern Hemisphere! The cheeky bastard.

>Are the books the same way that only the first one is fun?
No the books are good. The thing is, Tolkien didn't write three books, he wrote six books that the publisher insisted be printed as three volumes with two books in each volume. And Tolkien struggled with coming up with titles for the volumes, since they originally weren't meant to be paired.

its just a scale model made from balsa wood and Styrofoam sitting on a blue screen stage. There are no farms or hinterland or any sign of civilization. Just plastic looking heaps of rock set against blurry CGI composited landscapes. Ugly as sin.
>>
>>220174285
Its only really a problem when looking at still image. In the movie the shots are quick enough to convey whatever they are meant to convey without letting people analyse them too much which is why nobody ever cared while watching the film.

It's been almost a decade since I've first seen contrarians try to make people think the movies are bad. I really need to quit this site.
>>

Remove the animals and empty the fields and you got it.
I understand the other anon's who say the color grading is good for a quick visual representation of the state of Gondor, so I'm fine with the lack of color.
But this March, so the fields should be empty.
>>
>>220180786
Critiquing something fairly isn't being a contrarian.
LoTR is good, but it's definitely not a 10/10. There is plenty to talk about when it comes to its shortcomings.
>>
>>220176475
H5 is terrible if you like to play inferno or silvan,
great if you like orcs, dwarves and necros

No I liked it.

That basement thing was so retarded. And I don't mean what they found inside, I just mean the whole concept.
He didn't even get to the basement until the end of season 3! So fucking stupid. When the first introduced it I figured they get to by the end of S1, i didn't think it would be such a long running thing. It's just a basement!
And it's in the middle of the warzone. There was so much random shit that could've happened to it and then you'd have no big reveal.
