Star Wars is going to make a comeback.Probably not with Mandalorian & Grogu, which I expect to perform merely okay, but with the other projects. Now that Kennedy is gone, and we are finally getting good things like Maul, and with the serviceable-seeming Shawn Levy Starfighter flick on the horizon, it is clear the Force is no longer female, or at least there's no longer a pathological drive to turn everything girl-lead.Star Wars can thrive as a franchise, even with mediocre directors like Levy making the movies, as long as there is a sufficiently compelling vision provided by the overseers; I generally do think Filoni is competent enough to carry the franchise on, at a level a little below better EU material like the original Thrawn trilogy.
If there isn't enough alcohol in the punch you can add more. If there's too much you can add more punch. But if someone takes a shit in the punch bowl you just have to throw the whole thing out.
>>220159012nobody cares. star wars is dead, and gen z prefers Dune now thanks to based Villeneuve giving us kinos.
star wars is over, disney has ruined its reputation by ignoring the actual audience in order to cater to affluent white liberal women who never liked it in the first place.star trek has a better chance of coming back because you can just start a new series
>>220159184Love Dunc, but it's literally over after Part 3. They can't sustain it, as Prophecy, a show with worse production qualities than the piece of shit Obi-Wan Kenobi show, has already proven.
>>220159012>Star Wars is going to make a comebackLol.Didn't read the rest.
>>220159012>Get Tom Cruize to do your star wars film>Glorified cameo you don't promoteYeah Disney still doesn't know what it's doing.
>>220159296You can do the same with Star Wars. New era + compelling leads. The latter was prior impossible due to Kennedy's self-insert policy.
>>220159012This is gonna be the most notorious flop of the year and Disney will never be able to live it down
>>220159382It won't be. They made it cheap.
>>220159434The marketing doesn’t look cheap
>>220159012Whoever named it grogu was a fucking idiot.
>>220159012Anything post OT is borked. All we have to look forward to is shitty Vong movies void of all the OT characters.
>>220159012>Mandororian ando Gro-guThey used the english word for "and" on a japanese poster? Why not "soushite" or "to" which would make more sense to a japanese mind.Lazy.
>>220159721>marketing doesn’t look cheapIt mostly did, except for the final push. I don't know... I can see this shit (honestly hate baby Yeed) do pretty well with families.
>>220159012Omg, let it die already
>>220159012It won't. It will make less than Solo. Mandalorian fell off right after Book of Boba Fett, Season 3 was the final blow. Baby Yoda fad was in 2020, not in 2026. It's like if they decided to make The Walking Dead movie after 10 seasons of literal shit. The iron has long went cold. 90% of the live-action shit has been downright terrible. It's only the cartoons that still keep this dead and rotten franchise barely alive. Maul show has been wildly successful and is praised pretty much everywhere I look.
>>220159012Kennedy may be gone but the whole structure she put in place over the course of 15 years is still there. You can't help but feel this is all done very very reluctantly and the moment something happens to be genuinely successful again they're immediately going to pounce and fall back to their old culture war tricks: "how can we use this to push what we actually want"
>>220159324Executives will push for Children of Dune and God Emperor of Dune whether Villeneuve wants it or not, if they can throw enough money at him he might be convinced to make them, but they’ll try to find a way to proceed without him if Part 3 makes good money which it almost certainly will. WB doesn’t have many other good competing big budget projects, and depending on Supergirl’s success or failure the new DC might be dead already (again) before it gets going (again) because (again) they don’t know who they want to appeal to and are trying to make something too big too fast without natural hype building anything up.
>>220159933>It won't. It will make less than SoloIt cost like half what Solo cost.>Maul show has been wildly successful and is praised pretty much everywhere I lookIt's good. Feels like Star Wars. Solid recipe using an old Lucas concept (Maul & Talon), applying some of Andor's background-level character writing, taking inspiration from Arcane's visuals, doing proper casting (Witwer & Wagner Moura), and giving the boy audience a good amount of aurafarming moments.
>>220159012Who cares about another prequel? All of the characters we care about are dead
>>220159012I doubt it.Its just been done too much. Just an inundation of star wars crap. Its derivitive of a derivitive of a derivitive of a derivitive at this point.I cant believe anyone still cares at this point.
Even when the movies were mediocre the video games were always great.
>>220159986I've heard talk they were aiming for Gareth Edwards to do Children and God Emperor, though, from what the Part 3 trailers have shown, adapting those might not even be a possibility, and even if they do it, it won't be the same without Villeneuve and Chalamet. Or do you think Momoa Jr. can carry the franchise? Dune is over from what I can tell.
>>220160183Good point. With another Respawn Jedi game, KotOR remakes, Fate of the Old Republic, and perhaps more on the slate (having little faith in Quantic Dream desu), gaming Star Wars also looks promising.
>>220160091for >>220159870whoopsie
I see a Disney shill is working hard to earn his wage
>>220160204I don’t know if they’d be successful without Villeneuve or Chalamet attached, children of dune is already not great and is just the precursor to the much better God Emperor of Dune. It depends on what story content actually happens in Part 3, if they actually kill off Paul permanently and he doesn’t get to come back as the prophet I don’t know how they could adapt either book and Villeneuve might want to make this one’s ending so permanent that nothing else can be built but we’ll just have to see. If Paul’s children live, and they can future set it far enough to get the next hot young leads it could pull off enough of a win to justify making God Emperor of Dune. I want to see a God Emperor Dune made by a competent and stylish director more than anything, but if it’s hopes are betting on a less certain children of dune without Villeneuve and Chalamet it could be tough. I do think they’ll shoot for both though. Gareth Edward’s sounds like a solid choice for either desu.
>>220160435I'm not getting paid for this shit. Just trying to liven up the dead catalog with my observations.>>220160456Can see them going for a retooled version of God Emperor, directed by Edwards, and maybe try more (semi-)OC streaming shows after. Casting two very ethnically ambiguous, non-famous leads as the twins might mean a dead on arrival situation, though. Little hope.
>>220160685Yeah they need to find the next hot young leads to sell Children, how you sell God Emperor is more challenging since it’s just reusing Duncan Idaho again and Momoa might be too old or out of shape for that by the time they get around to it. Who they cast as God Emperor Leto II could be very very different from Children’s Leto II and would likely have to be, but not attaching a hot young guy to both seems like it could flop. Children could pull off enough intrigue with Chalamet returning, and if they characterize Alia well enough to make fans like her in Part 3 it could turn a profit. People like Anya Taylor Joy and making her the big bad of Children would work well if she plays the character right and they tighten up the writing of her character. From what I remember from the books she’s basically just a vessel for the Baron by the end through ancestral blood memory schenanigans which I hope they fix by giving her better motivation to turn on her family.
>>220161859Anya Taylor-Joy as a full-blown witch would be pretty cool, that's true. Everything else about this makes me feel little excitement. The Syfy Children of Dune mini-series had young James McAvoy carry it, and in the doubtful case they'd opt for a recast (pre Emperor), they'd still be locked in on the ethnicity, which at most leaves a small pool of actors anyone gives a shit about. And all this hinges on Momoa Jr. leaving enough of an impression as Leto II for anyone to even care about the character after Part Three.
>>220160685Can’t take Edward’s seriously anymore after the creator and Jurassic park rebirth. Atrocious movies. Son, I am disappoint.
>>220159012Kennedy is gone, but you've still got Filoni. Filoni has been noted to have been completely blocking the Andor series until Gilroy went around his back to Kennedy who was a friend of Gilroy. Lucasfilm is still very much fucked and it's company wide from who they've been keeping on board for the past 12+ years.I'm sure Star Wars will indeed make a comeback eventually, but for every good thing that gets made, there'll be 20 other things that kill people's excitement. You need Lucasfilm cleaned out with a better leader than Filoni if you want any hope of it having a decent streak to keep people engaged for more than 2 years at a time.
>>220159012>Star Wars is going to make a comeback.
>>220159012Star Wars was an old dead franchise in 2014. It was kept alive by die hard fans. There was an attempt to bring it back for a new generation. 7 made 2b, 8 1.5b and 9 1b. That is a very apparent drop off in interest. They failed. It is back to being a dead franchise, that some how, still gets releases.
>>220164538He was always a VFX guy. Same as Blomkamp. >>220164761Andor was mediocre, and completely retarded to produce with its price tag and lack of general audience appeal. That being said, I haven't seen any credible reporting on Filoni blocking it. Also, Filoni is way overhated. Ahsoka, some poor costumes and shameful choreography in the later episodes aside, had lots of impulses steering in the right direction.
>>220160091>>Maul show has been wildly successfullol lmao
>>220159012It's telling when fags are more mad about women than the fact that all this slop is garbage.>wow, a new cartoon about blingle bongus! thank you filoni! slurp slurp slurp
>>220165092I CLAPPED WHEN I SAW GLURPO BURRITO! I KNOW STAR WARS
the chance star wars had to bounce back was after mandalorian season 1. instead of continuing with self-contained adventures in a lived-in world, they decided to try to tie to to the rest of the disney star wars universe, which strangled and killed it.so now, even if they promise self-contained movies, everyone already knows its just going to be tied into everything else the instant its successful.tlj poisoned the brand, rots immolated it, mandalorian season 1 was almost rising from the ashes, and then seasons 2, 2.5, and 3 dumped a truckload of water on the fire and stirred the ashes. its gone. its over.
>>220164962The VFX weren’t impressive in both those movies. Boring even.
>>220165076Both critical and audience reception are very good, and numbers seem fine, especially relative the show's budget. >>220165092What an insightful, unique post, saying nothing.>>220165117More original thought.>>220165194TFA poisoned the brand, and Mandalorian S2 was better than S1.>>220165238Technically, they were. Edwards is who you get if you want an ArtStation account competently turned into moving images.
>>220165334> if you want an ArtStation account competently turned into moving images. What if I don’t want that?
>>220165617I sympathize.
>>220159108and when the punch is actually replaced with period blood you decide to just burn your house down and go live somewhere else.
>>220165334>TFA poisoned the brand, and Mandalorian S2 was better than S1Go home anon, you're drunk.
>>220165763What you submit on artstation and a moving image are 2 separate things
>>220165854I agree with him. TFA was a soulless cash grab redo of a new hope with a female luke and shittier empire. In all ways an inferior copy. No one waited years for that shit. the rest just compounded the bullshit.
>>220159184If Dune Part Three is even remotely accurate to the book it will be hated by the brainlets using it as a rebound from Star Wars. Dune Messiah is literally the Last Jedi before Star Wars even existed - it's a story about Paul being a wishy washy cuck who fails at everything before he gets blinded and then wanders out to the desert to die
>>220159012Kathleen Kennedy ruined Star Wars single handedly
>>220159012I agree. KK is finally out and it appears they're at least trying to make better stuff. Andor was good, despite, at times, its unnecessary attempts to be politically "relevant" and the occasional dose of wokism and feminism which didn't seem to bother most. I watched that new Maul cartoon and it was compelling enough to go on my watch list even though I usually hate cartoons and anime. Honestly, I don't understand the hate. Is it genuine or performative? Then again, I don't think some people will ever be happy and in fact, would rather see Disney fail because they're just perpetually embittered and because Disneybad. I think it's like people who hate Le corporations and muh capitalism more than any genuine hate or concerns about overly woke nonsense. Anyway, based on the trailer, it seems fine and it'll entertain plenty of families and children.
>>220159012They should have released Mandolorian and Grogu movie in 2023 instead of a third season.
>>220159012man shut I just don't care anymore. I was a massive Star Wars nerd as a teenager, had all the books (a lot of them anyway), played all the games, spent hours browsing Wookiepedia. The Force Awakens was the last piece of Star Wars media I ever consumed and ever will. I don't care if it gets good again. people told me the Mandalorian was good, I don't care. people told me Andor was good, I don't care. I just don't give a fuck anymore. there's nothing they can do to win me back.
