Like people not wearing helmets when they should or face camo when it would be detrimental not to. It's a war movie, everyone is wearing the same fatigues and it gets difficult to seperate characters when they're all wearing the same gear and helmets. My guess is that they gave Barnes and Elias carbines to make them seem more experienced and authoritative. 99% of the audience wont know that you wouldnt have access to those guns unless you were special forces.
