One thing always disappoints me about Aliens. Bishop is introduced with the knife trick showing he has incredible speed and dexterity. First movie also implies Androids have some level of super strength. But after his introduction, Bishop never gets a badass moment against a xenomorph. Why even introduce him like that?
>>220172609If you take your eyes of the screen for a second biehn goes missing
>>220172609I think the point of the scene isn't to show how badass he is, but to reintroduce Androids to the audience. As well as established that he is one. Also slightly setting up a red herring that he might be a threat and betray Ripley. Seeing as that what's happened in Alien
>>220172702correct, they needed an excuse to show him bleed white
>>220172750On that note, I love how this guy foes the knife trick with superhuman speed and precision and Ripley doesn't bat an eye, yet when she sees him with a drop of "android blood" between fingers she freaks the hell out lmao
>>220172702You'd think he'd have some kind of combat training if he works with the marines
>>220172609It's subtle, but he does the pipe crawl and was the best choice for it being an android. He would be able to continuously do it without discomfort or exhausting. So not only was he able to pilot the vehicle, he was the fastest and most optimal choice to crawl in a pipe. God I wish alien 3 never happened. We deserved more Bishop.
>>220175200Fucking A. He was a wonderful character.
>>220175200I would love to have seen a time skip, more eggs found and brought to Earth then a huge outbreak in the sewers of an Earth megacity. The marines are overwhelmed in stopping it and have to nuke parts of the huge city. With those miniatures and effects back then it would have been glorious
>>220172609Why do people insist on having "badasses" confront the xenomorph hand-to-hand? It's this kind of thinking that got us AvP Requiem and lately, the nigger and the tiny bitch in Romulus making short work of the aliens. What a fucking travesty. The xenos are killing machines and need to be portrayed as such
>>220176948It's all to do with women being "powerful" and therefore unstoppable. It bugs the hell out of me that so many classic monsters have been nerfed, the Predator doesn't need to be a heroic good guy, the Terminator should be nigh unstoppable that will kill you if you're within arms reach, and the Alien should be a death sentence if you end up in the same room. The only exception with the Alien should be if you have a whole squad of marines like in Aliens, but it should be, as it is in Aliens, that the squad is basically just a buffer and that eventually the Aliens will kill everyone, it's just a matter of time.
>>220172609He did have a badass moment, you just didn't see it.First of all if you fell for his 'good robot' act you're a fucking retard. He's a product of Weyland-Yutani and don't you fucking forget it. You think the company turned "nice" all of a sudden and started making "nice" robots? He just blends in better. He's obviously working for Burke the whole time, (you think Burke is going out there without an ace in his sleeve?), all under the guise of being a team player. How do you think Burke intended to carry out his plan after he infected Ripley and Newt? He would have ordered Bishop to do his heavy lifting and dirty work. Why would he escape the others during the alien attack? What do they think Burke intended to do alone? He was obviously going to contact Bishop and order him to come extract his arse. What he didn't count on was the fact that Bishop considered him expendable too anyway if it meant getting the alien samples back to Weyland-Yutani.Notice Bishop goes missing when Ripley is rescuing Newt and he sedates Hicks, (with some bullshit excuse)? Enough time for a super android to fly the ship to the original derelict site, collect another egg without triggering it by human body heat, conceal it in the shuttle, and haul arse back to pick up Ripley and Newt, (intended as human hosts because he needs them to get it through ICC Quarantine as per Burke's original plan).Even after being cut in half by the Queen Alien he crawls out of his cryo-pod with just his hands across the floor to move the egg into a position where it will activate, setting off the events in Alien3, because the facehugger unexpectedly fucks up the ships critical systems with its acid getting to Ripley. Then when Ripley revives Bishop he lies to her face about his involvement in what happened and pretends to be her plastic pal who's fun to be with.
>>220177344Then why not just lie to ripley in Aliens when he tells her it was Burke specifically who wants to bring the organism back? All he had to do was say "yup" when ripley tells him to destroy the specimens and not mention it - literally not even lie just not divulge the whole truth - and the plan would have gone off.I get the impulse to find a way to make the >the queen laid a supersecret queenburster egg somehow somewherething less retarded but that's a A3 problem, no need to reimagine the events of Aliens.Though overall you're right, it's retarded that bishop is somehow not totally onboard with the company secret agenda.Makes it feel like it really is just certain individuals like burke and ash who are sneaky assholes and by and large WY does kind of try to do the right thing like having basic droid safety protocols or whatever.Thinking about it now, ALiens felt way less gungho on the capitalism critique than Alien and in particular Romulus where working for the company is basically the same as being a slave. Compared to the fairly wholsesome directors cut scenes in Aliens of Hadleys Hope with Leydecker and Simpson shooting the shit with kids playing in the background.
>>220177515Yeah, fuck Alien3, but you can't say that idea doesn't improve it. Just having a scene with Bishop crawling out of his cryopod, dragging his torso around with his hands, and getting up to Weyland-Yutani fuckery while Ripley slept would be worth the price of admission.Obviously Burke is lying about why he didn't tell Ripley there was an android on board, "What, who me, I just forgot to mention it, honest bro ... ", and I think you can assume Bishop was subordinate to him, but would fuck him over in a nanosecond. Like he would have no objection to extracting Burke from the facility, and if he's infected then all the better. If not, he could fix that. You also can almost pinpoint the time when Burke seems to have 'had a little' talk with Bishop and he's acting under orders.I think the movie is better if you assume Bishop is evil. Assuming that is the case, how is he REQUIRED to act when he knows the reactor is going to blow and not only wipe out the atmosphere processor, but the derelict site along with it, (not that far away, and he knows the exact coordinates thanks the colony logs, and/or orders from Burke, Carter J. and thanks to Ripley that there are more eggs there). Also you see how fast the shuttle gets into orbit when they are fleeing the explosion. He would be obligated by the standing orders to retrieve the organism at all costs, crew expendable, right up to the last second, which means doing that while Ripley is occupied would make sense, and he'd be able to do it too. Making him showing up 'slightly late' to pick up Ripley after being nowhere to be seen, an interesting little detail beyond drama and suspense - also just lying about the stability of the platform, etc. Also Ripley saying, "Don't let him leave" to Hicks and him assuring her he wont let that happen, only to get sedated - by Bishop - afterwards. No matter how you cut it though, Bishop had the switch on his back set to 'evil':https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8dcmLscf3g
>>220172609The dumber part is that you would vleven send out dozens of humans if you can send machines that have super human intelligence, speed and strength. The truth is the whole Marine squad would have been androids with maybe one human supervisor on board.
>>220174287It's kinda the opposite, the colonial marine guidebook states that the synths are more of a father/mother figure to the squads and don't really fill direct combat roles at all or often. I'm sure they could do that if absolutely required in specific situations but they are there in supoort roles, medic/driver/science and moving cargo/gear for the marines who do the fighting, they even provide some level of emotional support as a seemingly neutral party in the squads they serve, someone to go to and talk to who isn't a fellow combat marine but also isn't someone higher rank like their sarge or LT. Now other company synths outside the marines are 100% combat ready as shown in the games and other media.
>>220177879Weyland-Yutani policy states that no crew should have more than one android. That's because a crew with multiple androids wound up killing each other in an argument over who drank all the milk. With only one android on board, it's obvious who to blame.
>>220172609>no scene where Bishop takes an alien's hand and does the knife trick, but intentionally stabs the alien multiple times, then does a three stooges eye poke and runs awayunwatchable
>>220172609Is there any nitwit hackery in cameron's entire career that matches up to making a literal robot product of the evil hypercorporation, established to be completely evil in the previous movie, into an utterly selfless cornball hero for no reason at all
>>220172609He slowly revs up to those speeds while doing the trick. He probably had to measure the movements first before reaching such speeds accurately. Far from being able to do superhuman fighting. As for strength, Ash seems to just be above human, but not much more than that.
>>220178301Fucking milk sucking droidfreaks
>>220177814i don't think Bishop is at all loyal to Burke. Bishop quite clearly wants to survive this mission. He is assigned to the Sulaco and doesn't directly work for Burke. The original script Bishop is antagonistic, but not evil. He holds the same position Ripley does in Alien 1. Where he refuses to let any possible infected onboard for fear of risking contamination to the human race. His logic and safety routines hold him to this firmly. Interesting how the cold operation of a machine can work sometimes.
>>220172609They were outmatched (including him)
