Too bad rebuild is an abomination and a stain on such a career.

his live action movies are great too, Love & Pop and Ritual.

Rebuild was extremely flawed but I honestly think they contribute positively to his overall arc as a creator, because you can actually see throughout them where he realizes he's sold out, regrets it and falls into depression, and eventually realizes in 3.0+1.0 that he needs to let go of Eva and do what makes him happy. they're not very good movies (although I think 3.0+1.0 has some flashes of brilliance) but nobody's perfect, and not many creators have the self awareness to admit they've jumped the shark, air it all out on screen in the very film series that caused it, and then bounce back and learn from that experience. you kind of have to respect it.

TV series blue blazes which is a autobiography on Anno, Shimamoto and the founding of Gainax.
