>Heading to streaming next week>Topping out at $800 million>$500 million less than the first movieMario Galaxy movie was a quiet flop.
>>220173038It had zero (0) plot. There’s no substance to this movie, the Galaxy game genuinely has more plot. So it was impossible for good word of mouth to spread. It could only sell on the name alone
>>220173038The first movie covered almost every aspect of what the Mario franchise is. There's no need for a second part
>>220173038Didn't the first movie also available on streaming before the end of its theatrical run before reaching $1 billy?
>>220173603Yes, the first movie was on streaming like 40 days after it premiered on theatres.
>>220173603>>220173644Movie's out of gas either way. Michael beat it last weekend, and it's pulling single digit millions on a Saturday. If it stays in theaters until Labor Day, it might eek out another hundred million. Maybe.
>>220173038>movie will likely reach a billion again out of nothing>flopIs this /v/ in disguise?
>>220173805It's sitting at $830 million globally five weeks in. These are its last domestic numbers for the weekend. Heading to streaming next week. It's done.
Does Bowser kiss Mario in this movie and why?
E Celebs killed gaming and Peach is a feminist and not the princess in distress like in the games
>>220173773>implying Michael has same target demographic as this movieBased retard.
>>220173038We still got our bonus check so shut the fuck up.
>>220174000I didn't, but it's out of steam. $20 million domestically last weekend. Maybe with some good graces it'll hit $900 million before the end, but the studios know it's done. That's why it's going to streaming.
>>220173958Yes, he does
>>220174034See >>220173644Cope more
>>220174034It wasn’t as good as the first one, and in theory it should not have been very difficult to be better than the first. This one really sucked bad.
>>220174068Where do you think it will get more money, anon? It's going to earn less this upcoming weekend. And less and less after.
>>220173871cool story breh
>>220174103It's not a story, it's math.
>>220174089>what's every movie ever
>>220174143Yes, that's right. But compared to the first, it's going to wind up earning $400 millionish less by the end.
>>220173805>>220173871Midnight edge legitimately retarded and eat up by Reddit.
>>220174089>earning less = no earningsWhy are zoomers like this? Is it public education?
>>220174034>>220174194>First movie that makes a billion of 2026 >It a flop because YouTube e-celebs said soMidnight edge the same faggot who sucked off david Zaslav and James Gunn as based and anti-woke by the ways.
>>220174048The the flop is deserved
>>220174194I didn't say that, either. It's just earning less than the first. And not by a small amount. Currently missing the mark by $500 million. Maybe it'll recover that to $400 million if it's kept in theaters long enough, but it's not a rabid success.>>220174222If your sequel notably lags behind the first, it brings into question how well the third will do. The Rise of Skywalker was a billion dollar flop.
>>220174156>>220173805
>>220174248Midnight edge is legitimately made a whole generation of Redditor retarded. Even Grace Randolph isn’t this retarded.
>>220174275Who are you talking about, dude? I just looked this guy up, and he hasn't made a video on Mario. These are simple facts. It's made $500 million less than the first, and is going to streaming next week. It financially did considerably worse than the first.>>220174249A movie can earn money while consistently trending down. No studio wants to see a sequel do worse than the first. It means the gravy train is running dry.
>>220174308>No studio wants to see a sequel do worse than the first.Yet it's what happens most of the time barring notable exceptions. A sequel doing $1 billion is nowhere near a flop.
>>220174370Well for one, it's not doing a billion dollars. It's doing much less. And two, it's trending worse than Illuminations' Despicable Me sequels, the second of which absolutely outperformed the first. If Mario of all things can't do that, that's not great. What does that say about potential other Nintendo-verse films? I don't know if a Luigi's Mansion movie would do even half of this.
>>220174000Kids love Michael. Is that not the case today?
>If it didn't make as much as the first movie or more, it's a flopCool, this logic again. A disappointment, yes, but not a flop.
>>220174419By this logic, Michael Bay's Transformers movies would’ve stopped making sequels years ago after the third movie. Same with fast and furious. Mario Galaxy is expected to reach 1 billion in 2026.
>>220174370Fuck off /pol/ it's a flop and you know it. Movies with bad reviews don't make money.
>>220174308Reminder /co/umblr faggots are still salty no one cared about hoppers. His box office information are from Reddit.
>>220174415>Well for one, it's not doing a billion dollars. It's doing much less.Even if it did 900m it won't be "much less" than billion dishonest retard.
>>220173038haven't seen a fuckin thing about this until now, forgot it even came out

>>220174682Cry more /pol/
>>220174682Well it would need to earn another $70 million to hit $900 million. And even then, that would be $100 million less than a billion. And that would still be $400 million less than the first movie.
>>220174655>first movie made $1.3 billion>this movie will likely make another billionEven Michael which is rated worse will likely make a billion.

>>220174747There's no goal post moving. The original Mario movie earned 1.360 billion. The Galaxy movie is at $830 million. That is over $500 million less than the first. It'll maybe get another hundred million, and wrap under a billion.

>>220174940It isn't retard. Go back to school.
>>220175208Wonderful argument. I'm sure the studios aren't having conversations about how the movie's making half a billion less than its predecessor. We all know they don't care about the line going up.
>>220173038It was offensive. Jack Black as Bowser didn't feel like Bowser. Mario had completely off base lines. "Over my dead body" That's Mario? Like, what is this movie? It looks like a Mario game, but it plays out like the most AI written trash.
>>220175239Not only you insist on your incorrect numbers and retarded projection but apparently you know what was their expectation, are you pretending to be an insider now retard?
>>220175371You have one source saying $870 million. Multiple other are saying $830. None are saying $890.

>>220173138The only thing I know about this movie is that Fox Mcloud is in it.
Making them sisters completely shits on the Mario lore. Now Miyamoto has to scramble and say this is the new lore because Illumination fucked up and took a creative liberty that was completely unnecessary and confused people.
>>220175498>magicallyBased retard.
>>220175629It's earning single digit millions on the weekend. This is just basic math. It's not opening up in new places, and it's going to streaming next week.

>>220176070You're either a moron who's replying to the wrong post or just lacking meds.
>>220176142You have Variety pointing at $870 million, while every other source (you can search "Mario Galaxy box office" just in Google) has it landing at $831 this past weekend.
>>220176253who gives a shit about 40m before it closes? Semantics boys. Geez.....
>>220176457Well that other person did, as he was arguing the movie was doing better than I was presenting. I'm saying it's currently lagging behind its predecessor by $500 million, and it's not likely to considerably catch up to it.
>>220176533I think the better discussion is, does the studio care? This happens with sequels. The first one was a long awaited return to mario in movies, animated, looks like the games. The second one isn't that. They spent 110m on this movie and see 50% US 1/3 international box office. They sell toys and merch related to the movie. Idk how it will do by the time it closes, edging to 900m seems likely for sure. The studio just gets 370m, that's over 200m returns. Nintendo gets a big commercial. This is a success even if its less than the first one, as a 3rd is happening and potential spin offs too.
It was funny seeing the Disney Jews trying to boycott another Mario movie they are all fucking dinosaurs they also tried to destroy Michael and it didnt work they got their asses kicked
>>220175661It actually just opened in South Korea and we don't have those numbers. And only opened in Japan last week.
>>220176751It pulled $10 million in Japan last weekend across Saturday and Sunday.

>>220174226It's a funny, Bugs Bunny-style kiss.
>>220176935/tv/ is full people disliking things and trying to use any kind of argument to validate their opinion. Cause it's full of weak pathetic people who aren't confident in their own tastes unless some form of group think reinforces it. Instead of just saying "I thought it sucked" it has to turn into some kind of way to prove it sucked and using anything to back their argument. As if their own opinion depends on it. Financial success matters when it supports their position, but point out John Carpenters The Thing bombed and suddenly money doesn't matter. /tv/ basically can't do opinions, subjective doesn't work for them, they prefer objectivism and that's not how art works.
>>220177158Hey bozo, you're getting worked into a shoot because someone's pointing out a giant advertisement underperformed.
>>220173805It's about trends. No point investing in declining markets.
>>220177204you're incorrectly applying an emotional state to me for reasons I do not know. I am not worked up, but perhaps you should explore why you think I am.
>>220177254Because you have an investment in Nintendo and hearing this movie didn't do as amazing as the last bothers you.
>>220174000>There’s no way that the people who grew up with Mario in the 80s and 90s would also be interested in the story if the most popular musician who they also grew up with in that same era. There’s also the zoomers who watched stuff like Stranger Things, and have secondhand interest in 80s nostalgia.
>>220177278I have no investment in nintendo and I don't care how well or poorly this movie did, I simply answered a question about /tv/ Again, you applying these emotions to my posts is perplexing, I don't understand why you are doing this. Why do you do that?
>>220173138Everyone who says this movie has zero plot is either literally braindead or just repeating what they keep hearing. The plot is completely straightforward and doesn't stray. >princess is captured>they head out to save princess>son attempts to rescue father>son attempts to reunite with father>bad guys are defeated and princess is saved
The Brie Effect
>>220176935Unironically you can blame midnight edge. Grace Randolph at least can do basic math.
>>220175622Good, fuck PatMac and Game Theory, he can shove Hello Neighbor up his ass.
>>220174417Nowadays kids know him only as “that guy who diddled kids.” I mentioned the movie recently and my 15 year old brother goes “wasn’t he a rapist?”
>>220175622It’s well known that Miyamoto didn’t like the Rosalina story in the game. Koizumi was the one responsible for all that.
>>220179135Miyamoto hates both Rosalina, the Super Mario Bros. Super Show and DK's extended family created by RARE, it must make him seethe that all of these have been forever canonized.
>>220177418That’s the plot of a video game. It should not be the plot of a Hollywood movie.
>>220180993Most Hollywood movies are that simple
>>220180993It's literally the same story of the Princess Bride except change the bowser jr subplot to avenging his father. Also essentially the plot to Shrek with a twist on the princess being captured part and a bunch of other films.
>>220177418It’s true there is a plot, but there’s no story. Mario has no arc, Luigi has no arc, Peach has no arc. Mario wants to ask Peach out, but the events of the movie never cause a change in him to actually ask her out. Peach wants to find her family and she does, but she doesn’t feel any type of way about finding Rosalina besides being happy she was found. Mario could have had an arc about mustering up the courage to ask out Peach, Peach could have had an arc about being receptive to romantic advancements now that she knows why she was abandoned. But nothing like that happens.
>>220182095You're just complaining to complain. Not even accurately.
>>220173038Movie had no dialogue.Anybody who likes the mario galaxy movie is a fucking weirdo.
>>220173773Congrats to Universal for beating Universal at the Box Office
>>220182002Please don’t pretend this piece of shit movie that everyone will forget about had anywhere near the charm and characterization of Shrek and Princess Bride
>>220182575The movie had sparse dialogue so it would be easier to translate into different languages. This is why Zelda and Metroid movies got greenlight.
I think the biggest problem this movie had is that it's a bad unfunny comedy rather than an adventure movie. The Galaxy games let you fully explore every space. A lot of platforming and overcoming challenges. And they really make use of the space theme with things like planetoids, jumping into orbit, running upside down, floating around, etc. The movie just kind of constantly throws the characters from one place to another without giving it enough time to make the different "levels" feel memorable. The part of the movie that should have been the actual movie (the adventure/journey) was covered in a quick montage.
This scene gave me a bonerShe's huge!
Watched it last week.Like all Illumination films, its just so boring, unfunny, and the writing is an absolute mess. Its so bizzare to me you can have the best animation in the business and simultaenously one of the worst writing.Do they just push all their budget into animation and leave none for quality writers? In this movie im appalled at how they handled Star Fox. Absolute character assassination
>>220183685the movie had almost nothing to do with the game, which genuinely had a more compelling story and much better presentation in its tone, atmosphere and music
>flop>literally the highest-grossing movie in 2026 so farwho the fuck cares. it's not a flop, that doesn't mean you can't shit on it.
>>220185912Midwits like you can't understand trends. "The Rise of Skywalker made a billion dollars, it's not a flop!" ...Two movies before that it made 2.5 billion. The franchise proceeded to die.
>>220182143Maybe I missed it. What was Mario’s arc? What was Peach’s arc?
>>220187381Midnight edge and quartering dumb cunts tried to spin Barbie as a flop because it was woke.
>>220188075Hundreds of millions less than your previous film is not anything a studio wants to see.
>>220173038>le silly cartoon with le serious look of determinationBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORINGGGGGGG
>>220173603>Didn't the first movie also available
>>220182095It's a really weak movie. Bowser Jr. shows up demanding his dad, Mario and Luigi then fight him and this should be a major plot point. Instead they abandon Bowser scenes later, only for Bowser Jr to get his dad anyway. At no point does it feel like the characters have any real agency. They are not doing things because they thought to do them, instead things just move along to another scene. It's baffling to people cause a movie really has never been this dumb.
>>220188373How come then, when Jurassic World 2 made hundreds of millions less and JW1, they still made a JW3? Same studio btw, Universal. Also same lead actor too. 1.6, to 1.3, to 1, to 800m. and a 5th is otw.
>>220188968They're still profitable, but still diminishing returns. Currently Mario Galaxy has much greater diminishing returns as well. It's not hitting a billion.
>>220189376OK, and? Diminishing returns is common in hollywood, do you have a stronger case for the "studio doesn't want to see" comment?
>>220179111Really? At the gym the younger chicks and guys there have all blasting jackson at the sauna and on the public music queue
>>220173038Still higher box office than Sonic.
As someone who's half nip the reception wasn't amazing there either. People liked the visuals, but that's it
>>220182095>Peach wants to find her family and she does, but she doesn’t feel any type of way about finding Rosalina besides being happy she was found.Wow, the horror.
>>220189471Mario is one of the biggest franchises in the world. Its sequel movie made half a billion less than the first, and got scathing reviews. "We still made money" isn't going to avoid obvious boardroom conversations about how to handle future entries. Certain spinoffs might be off the table, or turned into streaming specials.
>>220189570I don't get why some people get mad at this. It's a good thing. They might make better movies for it
>>220189570I think you don't understand how cheap these movies are to make vs say Jurassic World. JW4 cost some 200m dollars to make and it was shy of 900m and that is getting a follow up. Mario Galaxy cost half as much. They've made 4 Despicable Me movies, and soon 3 Minions movies. I think you have no idea what you're talking about.
>>220189765...And those Despicable Me sequels were all comparable in their profits, if not outdoing previous entries.>Despicable Me: $543,239,815>Despicable Me 2: $970,766,005>Minions: $1,159,398,397>Despicable Me 3: $1,034,799,409>Minions: The Rise of Gru: $940,482,695>Despicable Me 4: $972,021,410Very steady franchise that has not had wildly notable diminishing returns. The SECOND Mario movie doing $400 million less than the first by the end is going to leave multiple executives understanding that at its current pace, the series does not have legs.
>>220189933I think you've never met an executive in your life.
>>220190223Great argument, I'm sure they are happy that the sequel to their most profitable movie will do less than every Despicable Me sequel.
>>220188857I want to confirm this when the movie gets released on streaming, but I am fairly certain that Bowser Jr. actually has more dialogue than Mario does.

Illumination played it safe with their Mario adaptations. They didn't took any risks like the studio behind these two adaptations

>i-it doesn't matter it made a fuckton 500 million less than the first movie, chud! For us? We don't give a crap. But shareholders do. >>220190447Doesn't accounting for inflation make the box office gross of past movies go up? A la Gone With the Wind. Seems that would only hurt the case of the Galaxy movie.

This is still a wildly profitable movie and you can guarantee there will be many more. Haters need to cope so badly.

>>220173038yeah well it wasnt as goodI dont think anybody really thought it would be; sequels are almost always worseI still mostly enjoyed it
>>220190910Not all movies are equal. A film like Batman Vs Superman only making 800m wasn't enough cause it cost some 300m to make and was expected to sell toys. While the first Avengers it barely mattered if it profited. It did, but it sold so much merchandise it made the studio very happy. The 2021 Mortal Kombat movie barely made any money. It still was seen as a boon to the franchise. Movies aren't just profiting off their release, but being used to elevate a franchises diverse options. So the sequel comes out next week off a 80m gross for part 1. Star Wars sequel trilogy merch was known to not be selling in the numbers they wanted, unlike say Revenge of the Sith toys, which flew off the shelves. I don't know how the mario merch is doing and if its moving toys and games, but if it is, it's for sure making the studio happy.
>>220192096I tolerated the first one, but this was the last one I'm going to watch. They really doubled down on Peach being the protagonist with the story being all about her finding Rosalina.
>>220173773>If it stays in theaters until Labor Day, it might eek out another hundred million. Maybe.Lah fucking mao. It never fucking will. Fuck Jewtendo, FUCK Shuntaro "Eukike Puppet of "Investor" Kikes" Furukawa and FUCK Kikelumination. This movie was and always will be a laughable, abysmal failure.
>>220174068>>220176955Says the criminal scum chicken
>>220173038i didn't watch it because everyone said it sucked.
>>220192773It’s one of the emptiest movies I’ve ever seen, the game genuinely had more of a story
>>220173159The first movie was also mid as fuck
damn eric. not getting enough attention on /v/?
>>220173958yes because he was saying goodbye
>>220173038Objectively not a flop, but a definite stark dropoff and diminishment of returns. Nintendo jumped the gun on trying to position this movie as the centerpiece of the Super Mario 40th anniversary (and whatever plans they've already put into motion to have the movies influence future games).
>>220173038Hollywood is so broke they're making Ice Age 6 and Shrek 5. These Mario movies make more than enough money to keep pumping them out.
I liked it, I just wish it had more Galaxy in it. Fox was a based bro.
>>220182002Princess Bride had likeable characters and memorable scenes
>>220173038Prediction: Zelda next year will do about the same as SMG (give or take $50-100 million), and then Donkey Kong in 2028 (at least that's what seems to be the plan so far) will be a sharp dropoff again from SMG; still not in flop territory, but definitely enough to make Nintendo and/or their stakeholders want to start deescalating the level of presumptuous priority that movies are given as tentpole releases for their franchises. The reason I think DK will do noticeably worse than SMG is because Nintendo have just been utterly lousy custodians for the IP. Bananza already suffered for it (its reveal-to-release timeline was way too sudden and sparse for a game meant to be DK's grand return and a flagship Switch 2 release; thus, its legs were so lousy that it didn't even crack a million additional sales for its/the Switch 2's first holiday season, and they had to put out a free demo months after it released).
>>220193594Nintendo has three absolute guaranteed moneymakers for movies: Mario, Zelda, and a crossover Smash film. Anything else is at risk of being an actual flop. I do not have faith that a fucking Seth Rogen Donkey Kong movie would do anywhere close to numbers.
>>220193767>Nintendo has three absolute guaranteed moneymakers for movies: Mario, Zelda, and a crossover Smash film. All of which will be laughable fucking retard NPCbait kike-made flops, and Faggotkawa and his kike masters are gonna be punted the fuck out and rightfully so. Fuck Jewtendo adults and the giga-AIDS infesting every fucking community of every Nintendo franchise/series ever. Time for the actual non-retarded NPC shitbags to punt out the giga-AIDS fagaloons and gatekeep them all out of it.
Holy shit this reads like cringe teen angst
>>220177418imagine defending this shit kek
>>220173038So fucking glad I did not waste my money on this
IDK that's still a lot of money
>>220194049Nintendo is investing a ton in movies and non-game things right now. Their second movie doing $400+ million less than their first is not a great sign.
it was made by asian people paid with peanuts
>>220194108No? It was a western production.
A snoy schizo made this thread. He is lying.I enjoyed the movie.
>>220194107>Their second movie doing $400+ million less than their first is not a great sign.If it is indeed closer to a $500m drop, that's almost 40% lower than the first movie. Nintendo went with Illumination to animate the movie because they partnered with their owner Universal for their theme parks. The movies dropping off this sharply this quickly is not going to be good for the parks either (neither for traffic nor Universal's confidence in the partnership).
>>220173038Should have had my boy Waluigi. He would have carried the box office.
>>220194107Maybe Miyamoto should understand that MOVIES are supposed to have actual engaging stories and characters instead of bitching about critics being too mean
>>220173038The movie had no story or character development. It is the equivalent to juggling keys for an hour.
>>220194049it's made like 3 times as much as Pixar's Hoppers, but according to /tv/ it's a bomb and Disney is still god.
>>220195586No one is saying Disney is god. Pixar has been on the decline for years. This movie clearly lost heavy momentum though. No one looks at a movie making $500 million less than its predecessor and says that's normal.
>It flopped, you guys.>Mogged the #1 spot.>Highest grossing movie of the year so far. #2 making $600 million.>Barely increased budget.Forest for the trees.
>>220195952Yes, you are the one who can't see the big picture. It made $500 million less than the last one, and all parties involved are hoping to turn this into a massive film series with spin offs. If a Mario Galaxy movie can't do a billion, then what would a Luigi's Mansion? God forbid, something more obscure, like Star Fox.
>>220195637It is normal though. Avatar 3 made 800m less than Avatar 2. Though even without Avatar 3's BO it would be the highest gross trilogy of all time. The Fast and Furious movies haven't hit 1b since 2017, but they've made 3 more since with another coming. I suppose nothing is successful according to you.
>>220196007>>220195952Reminder the same Jeet is now calling the Micheal Jackson movie a flop.
>>220196084>It is normal though. Avatar 3 made 800m less than Avatar 2.James Cameron literally talked about how the success of Avatar 3 would determine the future movies, and that there's a chance any remaining projects would just be a book. You don't seem to understand that no studio wants to see your films make hundreds of millions less than their previous entries.
>>220196155>and that there's a chance any remaining projects would just be a bookYea, Disney will quietly release a book of their multi billion dollar theme park attraction film series.
>>220196210James would release it. Disney would just not move forward with further movies. If your first movie makes three billion, and your third movie does half of that, that means things are running out of steam. No one wants to see the line go down.
As Nintendo the first movie was a 50/50 split with Nintendo financing 50M and getting 50% of the profits, it was a net profit of 600M-650M. Even if the Galaxy movie ends up at 900M, that's 400M profits. They'd have to pump a game selling gazillions like BotW or Mario Kart to reach these profits. Which they can do, but those movies rack in money with lower efforts every 2-3 years. Even with a Star Fox movie or Donkey Kong movie that would do half less, they have no reason not to do them. I'd argue they're less risky than games that can (and more often than not) end up just selling 2, 3 or 4M copies. For less budget, sure, but for measly profits as well. You will eat the Nintendo Cinematic Universe for 1 or 2 decades, and you'll seethe at how it prints more than enough money.
>>220196283>Donkey Kong movie comes out>It's shit>No one wants to see Seth Rogen as a money for 90 minutes>It flops and loses money>"Nintendo Cinematic Universe" dies
>>220196248>If your first movie makes three billion, and your third movie does half of that, that means things are running out of steam.Name a series that made 3 billion with its first film and then didn't run out of steam.
>>220196443I can point to plenty of films that have had sequels that have made half their previous entries, and that generally means there's only so much life in the series.
>>220196492So you can't back up your claim then.
>>220196509I can back up that James Cameron himself has concerns for the future of the Avatar series, despite each entry making over a billion. You can't comprehend the nature of our economic system wants things to continuously make more money. If you only make "some" money, that's still not ideal.
800 million is pretty good for a movie without a plot.
>>220196343Based.To add onto it:>Furukawa malds and seethes along with the "investor" kikes and all of them get kicked out>Furukawa gets sent to career hell where he languishes>"investors" flee to "AI" which is in an active, freefalling nosedive>Those fagaloons end up jobless and penniless as well
>>220196555>You can't comprehend the nature of our economic system wants things to continuously make more money.>and that there's a chance any remaining projects would just be a bookYea, I am the one that doesn't understand things. I wish I was naive as you, ignorance is bliss.
>>220196987The chance that the further projects would just be a book is because the movies are prohibitively expensive, and if they make less than Avatar 3, there's a chance they will become unprofitable. That's how this stuff works.
>includes Birdo but has her as a glorified background characterprofound sadness
>>220173159>Mario Brothers barely work together They had one job
>>220190490she's in the right here not because men are never allowed to approach, but because it is inappropriate for a government officer to come on to someone while on duty.
>>220173038But it's still deemed successful?
>>220197704So was The Last Jedi.
>>220173138Yes, yes, we've all seen the LittlePlatoon video
>>220197730 The real world box office don’t work like you gifting YouTubers say. Mario still selling merchandise. Star Wars doesn’t pajeet.
>>220198627Mario would sell merchandise without a movie. If the movies keep making less and less money, they're not a successful venture to be pursuing.
