It's James Roday's favorite show and he had been trying to make that episode since s1. Show runners wanted to wait till it had better footing so they waited till s5.

I always include it as an epilogue when I rewatch Twin Peaks so yeah. Psych was amazing in general, they just don't make'em like they used to.
