Hook
Super Mario Bros: The Movie
Congo
Mortal Kombat (1995)

All this slop according to millennials are the greatest films ever, but if you actually watch them today, they're unwatchable.

nostalgia is a helluva drug

the fucking king of that genre is that retarded ang lee hulk movie
People only like this movie simply because they hate mark ruffalo. Like it doesn't even matter if ang lee hulk is a good movie. It's just "at least it's better than much hulk and btw fuck ruffalo"
All these hulk movies are fucking trash.

You obviously haven't watched a single one of those movies, but you sure do have an opinion on them, OP.

>Hook
forced kino.
>Super Mario Bros
based if you watch the original cut.

nobody likes this.
>Mortal Kombat
actual kino

>have millennial derangement syndrome
>go to millennial website
>have a melty
Are you gay or retarded?
>>
>>220195908
It's a mostly perfect adaptation aside from the lack of blood, which someone could easily add in digitally now.
>>
>>220195908
I saw mortal kombat in the cinema when I was 10 and I still watch it every year. It's a very entertaining movie and a good time all around.
>>

Hes gay and retarded.

You mean the Snyder cut.
>>

They were bad then and they're bad now. Hook is almost ok, purely because Robin Williams
>>
>>220195908
Other two I don't care about so much, but
>Super Mario Bros: The Movie
Not the greatest, just not as bad as it's made out to be considering it was adapting something that basically did not translate to live action, it made some creative choices that resulted in an interesting film
>Mortal Kombat (1995)
One of the best video game adaptations, it's close enough to its source material, its main issues are it toned down the violence to keep it PG-13 and some ugly looking CGI, otherwise kino soundtrack. Not the greatest ever, but a good movie.
>>
>>220195908
Grow a soul, nigger. Those shits own
>>
>>220195908
It's not millenials, it's zoomers pretending to be millenials. it's fucking tragic
>>
>>220195908
The Mario movie being so ridiculously shit is why Mortal Kombat stood out.
Congo is probably the worst Crichton movie, not that any of them were as good as the books.

Mario was dogshit but it was risky, interesting dogshit that you'd never see today
When you think "Mario" you really think "Cyberpunk noir movie about crooked dinosaur politicians"
>>
>>220195908
See, i know you cant comprehend this, but movies used to do this thing where they got a ridiculous concept and tried to make it a cool movie anyways. Movies used to mix serious moments with funny moments, just like real life. It was good because it had great pacing, great acting, cool action scenes, and just went all the way with EMBRACING the concept, rather than pussing out and going "meta" or "ironic".
>>
>>220195908
It's all ironic, but some of them have been doing it so long they bought their own bullshit. I'm pretty sure the same thing happens in other eras too, it just gets worse with time because snark has steadily increased since the 70s and the internet gives us access to a full range of retarded takes and posturing.
Give it another 5 years and people will be talking about movies like Dude Where's My Car? like it was a fucking masterpiece
The better question is what movies from the 80s fell into the same situation? I can think of a few standouts, but I'm curious what you guys will say.
>>

Mortal Kombat is great campy fun and faithful to the game unlike every other video game adaptation ever.
Hook is also a very good film

>>
>>220196429
This is what has been lost from modern Hollywood. Nothing is fun anymore not even capeshit. Fun has been replaced with quips. Drama has been elevated to the nth degree and everything is so fucking grandiose and grim.
Nobody in LA is having fun.
>>
>be millennial
>think all those movies are shit
its bizarre. Add Brave Little Toaster to the list, holy fuck even as a kid I knew that was shit.
>>
>>220197495

>>
>>220197702
>>220197835

>>220197495
Most obvious example I can think of is Big Trouble in Little China. Kinda fun, but actually dogshit if you try to watch it
>>
>>220195908
The Mario Bros. movie was always disappointing crap tho, I've never heard anyone say that was a good movie. I need to give Congo a rewatch, I thought it sucked when I seen it as a kid but I think that has to do with how it was promoted and it not living up to the badass white gorilla action figures based on the movie. MK is mostly nostalgia and compared to video game movies of the time, was kino af. Hook might just be nostalgia and the big lipped chick as horny Tinkerbell giving me kid boners.

>>220196023
I like it because it has the Hulk doing Hulk shit, I hated Disney Hulk before I hated that fag Ruffalo. Bro made everyone cream themselves with the puny god scene and then he fell off, becoming a secondary character that yidsney didn't really gaf about because they didn't hold the rights to the character.
>>
>>220197495
>It's all ironic
>bought their own bullshit
You can't brainwash yourself into suddenly liking a movie you absolute drooling turbo-retard.
>>
>>220195908
kids today are too detached and steeped in irony to even appreciate a good thing and not self sabotage it with irony poisoning.
I pity you
>>
>>220195908
watch more movies
>>
I grew up with this and super Mario, I’m in my thirties now and although they’re pretty bad I do love them. The practical effects in Mario are really well done too

Not really an ironic thing, it’s just ok to like things that aren’t the best for personal reasons

You can't take my childhood kinos away from me damn it
>>
>>220196023
This movie's faithful to as fuck to Bruce's backstory though. His dad killing his mom IS why he's the Hulk in the comics.
>>
>>220198021
Sure you can.
First you start with nostalgia goggles for what you saw as a kid, saying it was fun and "from a better and more innocent time". Then you share those memories online with like-minded people, conflating great memories with a great movie, and you don't realise they're doing the same thing as you and think they're being sincere. So you start to believe it, watching some shitty preditor youtube video that does an hour long deep dive on how it's a misunderstood cult classic, completely twisting the context which reinforces you're warped impression. You build up a love for this movie, and start defending it online with talking points they've seen elsewhere, and boom. They don't need to actually watch it or analyse it, they let others do that for them.
>>
>>220199003
You get it, but you're in a tiny minority. Most people can't separate a movie they love from a great movie. If they love it, it's great. The idea of admitting they love something bad, or hate something great, just does not compute.
>>
>>220197483
this. op wants me to hate a movie with based dennis hopper as the villain....not happening faggot
>>
>>220199752
That's an awful lot of hoops you just jumped through to reach your conclusion, anon. I always just enjoyed Mortal Kombat since I first watched it in the 2000s, and I've since re-watched and enjoyed it a few more times over the years. No nostalgia goggles or pretentious video essays involved.
>>
>>220195908
MK '95 is kino. Hook is alright and carried mostly by aesthetics.
>>220196023
Objectively the best Hulk movie and one of the rare cases a cape flick tried to have some semblance of artistry. Ang Lee has several Oscars. You have 0.
>>
>>220197905
How much of a pretentious faggot do you have to be to hate Big Trouble in Little China?
>>
>>220200347
>objectively the best hulk movie
>hulk gets physically larger based on how angry he is
>hulk dogs
nick nolte is the only reason the movie is even tolerable. the Ed Norton hulk movie is objectively the best one and he is objectively the best Bruce Banner
>>

>>
>>220195908
Hook is kino and anyone that thinks otherwise is simply a faggot

>youll never eat at the lost boys dinner table
>>
>>220200422
Yeah and Raimi Spider-Man had organic webbing. Doesn't change the fact that it's the best adaptation of Spider-Man in live action.
Moreover, Lee's Hulk showed some niche Hulk powers that MCU Hulk never had, like the regeneration.
It was also more psychologically complex and took more risks.
>>
>>220195908
For a long time, Mortal Kombat was widely considered to be the best video game movie, so not really contrarian. There's just not a lot of good vidya movies.
>>
>>220197495
liking hook is ironic? we were kids when these movies came out, they were just fun movies. fucking pseud, shut up
>>
>>220196023
Cope redditor we like it for the score, cinematography, visuals and how it faithfully adapts the more "tragic" side of the character that was everywhere in the 2000's
>>
>>220196023
This was the best hulk movie because he actually felt like the Hulk. When he got mad he got bigger. Little shit like that.

Mortal Kombat represents camp, something COMPLETELY unknown to modern filmmakers. See, back in the day movies were allowed to be sincere. There was lighthearted humor, but characters weren't ironic, they didn't quip every 5 seconds, there was zero self-referential meta humor like "ok so THAT just happened" or "is he serious right now?". Moreover, nobody commented on Trump's immigration policy, there weren't half-assed hints to Glup Shitto characters without actually showing them (gotta keep material for the 4 sequels) etc. The bad guy wasn't misunderstood, he just wanted to fuck shit up. You don't KNOW how the lizard guy became a lizard guy because there wasn't a whole spinoff TV show about his background. He's a guy who can turn into a lizard and he wants to kill you. It baffles me that, to this very day, the retards making video game adaptations just can't come to grips with the concept of sincere camp and keep inserting their stupid fucking social commentary, lame attempts at bad-assery, girlboss dialogue and pajeet CGI that looks worse than the bargain bin rubber suits from the mid-90s
>>
>>220200992
It also captures the spirit of the game quite well. MK was supposed to be a Jean Claude Van Damme game that borrowed elements from a bunch of other properties, like Big Trouble in Little China, Ninja movies, etc. There was always a tongue in cheek element to it.
The only aspect that was sort of lacking in the movie was the higher level of violence/gore from the game, but it still manages to be quite faithful even without that.

>>
>>220195908
>Hook
>Super Mario Bros: The Movie
These are both kino that were just shat on at the time because people didn't know how good they had it. Mario especially is good in contrast to the new Mario movies that have no soul or character at all.
>>220196023
Lou Ferrigno Hulk is unironically the best Hulk adapatation when it comes to getting the essence of the character and the period he was from.
Also, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is kino so it has that going for it. But yeah Hulk movies are shit which is surprising given he's a great character.
>Congo
Fun schlock based on a pulpy sci-fi book, they don't make anything like it anymore. The real "reddit" thing is stuff like the new Anaconda that's self-deprecating, self-referencing insufferable crap.
>Mortal Kombat
True, obsessing over abysmal video game movies is a millennial hallmark I have a hard time understanding.

>>abysmal
That thing is fucking unwatchable. It's not funny, it's not weird, it's not cool, it's not anything. It's like cumming your pants over Dragonball Evolution or Doom (2005).
Street Fighter (1994) makes a lot more sense to praise and re-evaluate given much like Mario it's campy, weird, and has a strangely stacked cast.
>>
>>220201447
I respectfully disagree.
>>
>>220195908
Mortal Kombat (1995) is so bad, it's good. The rest is so trash, it's trash.
>>
>>220196405
I feel bad for them. Being a zoomer seems like being in a prison where everyone will jump you if you earnestly like anything. It’s all just apathy

I don't care. These are important issues.

>>
>>220201678
>everyone will jump you if you earnestly like anything
It's all a reaction to you guys being some of the most obnoxious consumers that have ever existed. You guys put some of the worst, shamelessly commercial dogshit on a pedestal and force everyone to like it and everything else to race to the bottom of the next common denominator.
>>
>>220197310
>Congo
I really like that movie.
