Just heard about this show the other day and watched the two episodes that are out. It’s fucking great. The tone is a bit like one of the lighter, funnier X-Files episodes with a cast of characters that are like amalgams of famous horror movie heroes/villains. We’ve got a Laurie Strode/Wendy Torrance, a Jaws mayor/Ichabod Crane, a town kook that’s a mix of Captain Quint and the “You’re Doomed” guy from Friday the 13th, and it’s all set on an island with a long, cursed history. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say someone stumbled on that old horror parody “Hysterical,” and said, “You know what? I can work with this.” If they can keep up this quality, we might have a real winner on our hands. So far, I’ve caught Jaws, The Fog, Halloween, The Shining, 1408, IT, and hints of Night of the Living Dead. Hope you guys check it out, because I’d love to see what all the real horror buffs catch.
>>220196905I downloaded it after seeing it in top 100 seeds, pretty decent first two episodes I'm surprised it isn't being brought up in /hor/
It's pretty fun. I loved the old video tape he was watching while staying overnight at the hotel. What a great bit
>>220198122I've seen one or two mentions in /hor/, going to watch it soon. I liked Matthew Rhys in The Americans even if I thought that show went on for way too long, so that's a selling point for me.
>>220198169same, I liked the poster but was only intrigued once I saw he was in this.>>220198159is that also a reference to something?
>>220196905Honestly, I was kinda disappointed to find out its a comedy. I'm an europoor, but I fucking love that small American fishing town/island setting(new England?) especially for a horror, probably cos I loved reading King as a kid and really dig the vibes. Thats why I really liked Midnight Mass too, thought this will be similar. Which is weird, I like comedies, but I was hoping for something dark and atmospheric
>>220196905trailer looked decent and after you anons saying its ok ill check it out
>>220196905It's decent but a little over the top.
>>220198314>I liked the posteryou liked the ai poster art that doesn't even know which way a rowboat should face? I've never been turned off a show faster
>>220196905Decent. The niggers make it bad.
>>220198800yeah i like that tourism board aesthetic
>>220198496I suggestHarper's Island (13 eps)The Apostle (w/Dan Stevens; his acting is vaguely tongue in cheek);Dagon (not American but great sense of place as well)Trapped (6 eps, takes place in Iceland, there's an S02 I think)A Murder at the end of the World (also not in US, awful woke plot but the place is astounding, really atmospheric)
>>220196905Ehh from this image I’m getting the vibe that it’s one of those>le perfect (White) town has a dark secret (racism)shows
>>220198122That’s where I found out about it. >>220198159I laughed at that bit for a good, solid 5 minutes. >>220202717Nah, this is creepy, weird little island town has an entire history of terrible secrets. It’s a bit like “Welcome to Derry,” but everything’s lightly comedic. Example:>Mayor’s Office meeting:>Mayor: OK, so I’ve prepared a list of places for you to take our visitor on his tour. >Flunkie A: So I take it I shouldn’t take him by the old hospital?>Flunkie B: It’s perfectly fine to drive by the old hospital. You just can’t stop. I’m thinking that might be a Session 9 reference.
>>220198314It’s kind of reminiscent of The Ring - haunted, weird video.
