this is a pretty famous real-world landmark, what the hell were they thinking?
>>220198577Is that an island for ants?
>>220198577>famous real-world landmarkto who? sheepfucker islanders?
>>220198610UNESCO, for a start.i thought they'd at least dress the set in the sequel. similar to picrel, they made it look Star-Warsy. but no: Luke Skywalker just lives on Skellig Michael, in the stone huts.it's like if they went to Stonehenge or Machu Picchu, very different to a random hotel in Tunisia. the originals and prequels actually cared.
>>220198726Well they did make it look gloomy
>>220198577I think Rian Jonson is a nerd who doesn't go outside or even just have worldly knowledge, so he thought it was very obscure.
reminder that the Titty Sloth creature that Luke milks was a physical prop that they had to fly to and from the island with a helicopter and a harnessIn the Making-of documentary "the Director and the Jedi", Rian Johnson debates with his team about possibly doing the creature as CGI, which would be far easier and cheaper obviously, but insists that the Titty Sloth must be a physical, practical effect because it will feel more realIt was very important to him that you, the viewer, felt like Luke was milking a real living Titty Sloth. During your viewing experience, did you notice? Did it improve the scene for you? Did the physical Titty Sloth help you to immerse yourself in the science-fiction planet of Ahch-To?ahch-to is the name of planet, did you remember that? what a great film
>>220198836Ireland, or the London Underground? either way: you mean they did nothing?
>>220199359the titty sloth was neat thoand it did look good
>>220199359everyone was on their "it'll be puppets, we swear!" kick at the time.but yeah they could have just done the actual tits in latex, the creature overall as CGI. i mean, RJ knew the spaceships and laser blasts were going to be made in computers.feels like trying to have it both ways.>this retro-style game i'm making? all lovingly hand-crafted pixel art like in the NES/SNES days.>oh, the backgrounds? yeah those are just photos i found online. drawing those would have been haaard :(((
>>220200503well, there you gorian johnson vindicated I guess
>>220198577Thinking?
>>220199121it was first featured in The Force Awakens thobeit
>>220200541Yeah you could feel the insecurity at the time, especially in the language coming from Kathleen Kennedy>we want to re-capture the magic of star wars>"what star wars really is">back to practical effects!>"looks lived-in"just by that alone you knew they were never going to do anything new with it, they were too fucking scared to And it's all based on people getting angry about shit they don't even fully understand. The Phantom Menace alone had more practical sets/effects/creatures than the entire Original Trilogy put together. An incredible amount of things people think are CGI in the prequels are actually miniatures, matte paintings, physical props, you name it. George used CGI to fill in the gaps of only things that were truly impossible without it, as a tool, and very wisely. ILM pioneered the kind of shit everybody uses today in the background but they'll still get on their high horse about the prequels.pic fuckin related
what did they do for fun?
>>220201294Sneed
>>220198577Even my mother could recognize this place and she's legitimately retarded. I'm American too.
>>220200503kek, retard
>>220201115TPM is my favourite one simply because of the production design. i agree with the complaints that AotC and RotS went a bit too heavy on the bluescreen. but that can even be stylish: it was literally a selling point of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.>An incredible amount of things people think are CGI in the prequels are actually miniatures, matte paintings, physical props, you name it. George used CGI to fill in the gaps of only things that were truly impossible without itagreed. people talk as though anything that isn't the actors is CGI. no, they're sets. Palpatine's office: if it has a statue, that's a statue. the windows out to Coruscant? sure, greenscreen, it's actually 'The Volume' on The Mandalorian that makes EVERYTHING a real-time vidya render and now that's top-notch VFX again...?that recent 'documentary' for the new Harry Potter was weird because they're using all that same language again. granted, there probably isn't enough post-production work completed to talk about the CGI. but they don't mention it, at all. instead, they're building robot owls and rats! creatures that actually exist. guys, if you don't want animals around kids or something, just render them in CGI. it'll be okay.
>>220201546robot owls is fucking insane
>>220201583it just comes across, i dunno, redundant? they'll program a toy rat so the servos move to bite Ron's finger. you could get that exact scene in so many cheaper ways.maybe we'll get Lord of the Rings tier DVD extras. whatever your thoughts on Harry Potter and however the show turns out, working on it must be a dream come true to a lot of these people. i just wish we could get behind-the-scenes footage that shows people working, not constantly gushing about how important [franchise] is.
>>220202089yeah I don't want to hate on it too much because I know a lot of people were dissatisfied with the movies for not having enough time to fully adapt the book materialI never read the books so I never cared, but if they like it and it's fun for them then cool black snape is kinda hilarious though like come on dude
>>220202121>black snape is kinda hilarious though like come on dudei genuinely feel bad for the guy. he seems nice enough. maybe he can walk around looking stern and sullen, but the resemblance just isn't there. race swaps HAVE worked (Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin in Daredevil).but 1. i did not anticipate actual dreadlocks, and 2. with modern colour-grading, i might not be able to see him on-screen.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbaTT2YV-IIthis kid had an actual invisibility cloak or something what the fuck. in my old aXXo rip, i thought it was Seamus that was speaking
a movie filmed at my local library introduced a conflict in the scene that could have been resolved if the character walked a few feet to the left.the way it was framed, they knew this, so for the sake of the fiction, they blocked it off. just wasn't an option to the character.except, it was meant to be set in 'my' city with the 'real' people. so the geography of that library was important. the layout i know is canon.
>>220203007eh, all actors "seem nice enough", dude's probably an asshole
>>220201115>pic fuckin relatedNot in defense of Sequel trash, but...
>>220198577Is that Godzilla?
>>220203007>aXXoshout out the 700mb legend
>>220203160true, true. but it never used to be this 'junket' and conventions bollocks. actors could speak their minds more. see: Alec Guinness being a dick about Star Wars (which is fair.)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWh6JnN9bOwlove this bloke. no gushing about how 'important' Doctor Who is. he's just very honest instead of playing the game, and that has cost him roles.
>>220201294you cannot imagine how many fish there were in the sea back then, they would have so many fish related activities.
>>220203364>shout out the 700mb legendit's fucking retarded to restrict yourself to what will fit on a CD-Rsome DVD movies need moregoddamn what a disappointment it is when you certain movies never got upgraded with better rips beyond that XviD bit-starved bullshit from the ancient pirate yore yonder years
>>220198604Ants make their own islands. From themselves.
