I would jump into the ocean back and forth back and forth retrieving pails of water and dump it onto the boat to increase the speed of the sinking
I'd wipe my memory of the future in order to conform and play my part of the early-20th century sinking ship survivor

>>220198742drink alcohol. look for charles joughin. he was in the water for 2 hours drinking whisky lol.
>>220198742Find the smug son of a bitch who cut in front of me at the buffet the other night and strangle him, knowing the sinking will cover my tracks.
>>220198914It wasn't that type of evacuation. Compared to other sinkings, the titanic's evacuation of passengers into boats was a fairly calm event. Lots of stiff upper lip types still offering women and maids their spots in a lifeboat. It wasn't until the forecastle disappeared into the water that the real panic began. Also, several of the officers carried pistols with them, so good luck forcing yourself into a boat rowed by white star line sailors.
>>220199192He was exaggerating. It's not physically possible for a human to survive 2 hours in water that cold. Most people who ended up dead in the water holding onto chairs and shit died of hypothermia after about an hour. They lost consciousness first, then they froze. No one ever backed up his story, he made it up.
>>220199429>Also, several of the officers carried pistols with them, so good luck forcing yourself into a boat rowed by white star line sailors. You just call their bluff, you think they would start shooting people? Even if so, getting shot was a better alternative than sinking into the cold waters
>>220198742With the knowledge I have today? Get to a lifeboat. At the time? Probably stay on the ship. The Titantic was thought to be "unsinkable" in that it would stay buoyant for hours; more than enough time to be rescued by the many ships passing nearby on common maritime routes. At the same time, getting into a small lifeboat in the middle of the icy, dark ocean, might as well have been a death sentence; who knows if you'd be found?
>>220199517>Even if so, getting shot was a better alternative than sinking into the cold watersyou don't feel a thing freezing to death. your nerves go completely numb before pain becomes intolerable. if you get shot you better hope it's to the head or some major artery that bleeds you out quick because once the adrenaline stops pumping you will be in a lot of pain
>>220199482yeah you'll go unconscious in less than an hour in those conditions but still, i always loved this story though.

I would wash this down with a warming and fortifying hot Bovril as this would also boost my immune system, ensuring protection from catching a nasty bug from a floating dead body who hadn't been smart enough to do the lard thing.Once larded up and in the water I would swim towards the nearest half filled lifeboat. As there would likly be only women and children on board I would endear myself to them by telling them a child-safe joke like:>Did you hear about the magic tractor?>It turned into a field...Or in it was only adult women there and I could use a funnier but more fruity joke:>Did you hear about the gay magician?>At the end of the night he'd always disappear with a poof...Having endured such a traumatic experience and in many cases being aware their husbands would be dead or dying by now thanks to the sexist "women and children first" order they would be glad of my comic stylings and welcome me aboard. Its highly likely I would get to shag one or more of the women too.

It went to shit very quickly. Lightoller may have thought for a long time the ship wouldn't sink that fast and he could've been under the impression they had enough time to find women and children to fill the boats.
>>220202886A light meal, such as a sandwich, is recommended as it will kickstart your metabolism. The don't eat before you swim advice was actually not true, but introduced while Britain was under rationing from World War 2 in order to discourage the lower social orders from eating too much when food was at a premium.Eating before exercise means you burn more fat reserves when exercising, which would mean you need to consume more food overall. Add the fact that regardless if you ate before exercise or not, you will want to grab a Greggs or something afterward anyway, so that is more food on top.

There is a theory that if the Titanic had hit the iceberg head on it would have stayed afloat because of the way the Titanic was designed. It would have still been a disaster and probably much worse for the captain, who would be considered responsible for manslaughter and fucking the front up of a ship a lot of people had invested heavily in to succeed.
>>220198824omg this, so much this
>>220203315>probably much worse for the captainI am not so sure, I mean this was to be his last trip out before retirement and saving almost everyone on board and the ship itself, might have had better optics than what happened. If the ship stayed afloat even after hitting a massive iceberg that adds to the Titanic's reputation as the greatest ship ever built.

A man who knew Captain Smith claimed he saw him 9 years after the sinking, alive and well: https://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/thinks-he-saw-capt-smith-19127.html
>>220203315It would have been such a crazy idea to smash into a giant iceberg head on at full speed. At the end of the day they almost managed to miss the iceberg, one less compartment flooded and Titanic would have remained floating. It was the right course of action even if it ended in tragedy.
>>220198742When the top of the bow started to take on water, I would've>put on as many layers of clothes as I can, including socks>try and put together some large enough piece of debris i can float on>start testing a few pieces in the water to see what floats (incase i get it wrong and its too late when i find out)>slowly paddle away on my piece of debris and just stay within shouting range of the other lifeboatsNot sure if it would work but it would be worth trying.
>>220203240Wtf are you talking about anon? You don’t eat before exercise because you’ll cramp. They say not to do so before swimming at the beach because it is said you’ll get tired out easily after cramping in the deep water. It has nothing to do with the actual act of swimming itself.
>>220202925If you fail to get aboard a boat this way and you have to go into the water, your best option is collapsible lifeboat B. Preferably just after it gets washed off the deck, jump clear of the side of the ship and don't swim over the bow, or you will likely get sucked into a window/vent/assorted gaping orifice. You will have to balance on an upside down boat for about 3 hours, so you need at least some strength. If it doesn't hinder your swimming too much, a wool overcoat would prevent freezing. A secondary alternative is collapsible A, but this boat was half flooded, so without a coat you are at risk of freezing. If you fuck up and wind up on the stern, and if you are particularly fit, you might be able to jump off and swim to one of the lifeboats far off (a couple people pulled this off), but there is luck involved in not hitting debris/people/propellers on the way down. If you can't swim or aren't fit, and you wind up going down with everyone else on the stern, you need to get your upper body and at least most of your lower body out of the water. It was pitch black out so it would be nearly impossible to see, but finding large debris (door sized or larger) is the your only hope. If you do manage to get out of the water, you will likely freeze anyway, unless you have a coat, but this would not gaurentee survival and even if you survive, you will likely have frostbite. You need to get on a lifeboat before the Carpathia arrives, because it dipped after it picked up everyone on the boats (they didn't want to traumatize the survivors by lingering around in waters littered with corpses; there is evidence that a group of people on a makeshift raft were still alive at this point) If a lifeboat comes looking for survivors in your area, you need to find a way to signal it (Shouting probably your only option unless you packed a rape whistle or some shit). You might be able to paddle to a boat elsewhere on your selected debris.tl:dr, get /fit/ or buy a wool coat
>>220203747Lol, enjoy being told what to do using pseudoscience if you want, Sheep-Boy. Cramp doesn't work like that, it is caused by a build up of lactic acid in a muscle during exercise itself NOT from having eaten a nice moist sandwich (which would add more water to your body and actually make cramp less likley). The eating before swimming thing was actually exposed on an episode of Qi years ago, but it still persists as an urban myth.https://www.tiktok.com/@theqielves/video/7171474233963367685
This is most likely how things looked at the night of the sinking. May have to let your eyes adjust.1. The iceberg. 2. Lights fading before they go out.3. Ship at its highest angle4. Ship breaks in half.5. Final plunge.
