It's actually insane how I had the wool pulled over my eyes from S2 + S3 just because the performances by Stormfront and Soldier Boy were so good. I went and rewatched the series up to now and holy fuck, everything after S1 is WAAAAY worse than I remember. I thought S4 was the only blemish, but no, the signs were there for awhile and I was just enamored by fun acting to see it.

At this point, though, Homelander and Soldier Boy can only carry a bad script so much before the writing drags down their otherwise fun performances.

I had a shower epiphany for why the dialogue is so awful. It's not just characters describing sex acts. It's that there's no subtext. In the past, writers would sneak in sex jokes behind innuendo or double entendre. Think of a train blasting into a tunnel. You laughed because you knew what the characters were really saying. But with The Boys, it's just characters describing sex acts in lurid detail. And that just makes it boring once the shock wears off.

This final season is a waste of time. It has the same problem as season 4 where only the first and last episodes move the plot forward. The fate of the world is apparently at risk and yet it’s still taking place in the same handful of locations, and there’s even less setpieces than there were back then.
