It was good. Conan played his role well, but I think it would have been handled better in the hands of an actual actor. It's worrying how much normie women are identifying with the character who spends the whole movie being self-centered and hurting everyone around her.

shit was disappointing... the summary and picrel used on prime made me think it was gonna be like jupiter ascending/john carter, an earthling somehow ending up in a galatic adventure. what i got was a shit story about peasants mistaking a ufo for a dragon, shit comedy shoehorned in and terrible dubbing from harvey keitel. the only two positives are see the chick naked for a brief moment and this cool shot of keitel in space, that's it.

Mercury Rising, and it was absolute dogshit. The plot makes no sense and the antagonists are incompetent.

Alec Baldwin finds out there's a flaw in a military encryption cipher and his solution, rather than have his programmers at the NSA write and distribute a patch that'll take a month tops, is to order the world's most incompetent assassin to murder five people and attempt to murder half a dozen others.
>>
>>220217458
Ebert's review
>Mercury Rising is about the most sophisticated cryptographic system known to man, and about characters considerably denser than anyone in the audience. Sitting in the dark, our minds idly playing with the plot, we figure out what they should do, how they should do it, and why they should do it, while the characters on the screen strain helplessly against the requirements of the formula.

Thrash on Netflix
It's basically about a hurricane flooding South Carolina and making it so a bunch of sharks are swimming around this town and the people are all getting eaten by sharks
It was okay, I guess. Lots of CGI and well, not particularly a lot of woke shit, so that was kinda nice I guess, I dont think there was any gay people in the movie and they weren't overtly demonizing white people or putting black people on a pedestal, so that was nice I guess

I watched a movie called The night house (2020) with Rebecca Hall. It´s a pseud psychological horror flick about this woman that´s haunted by a spirit she believes to be her late husband who, apparently, she barely knew.

The movie had some good ideas i guess and earn some extra points for being made with virtually nothing but the actress, the house and some cool VFX. I still don´t know how i feel about it. It´s suspenseful enough and has good understanding of visual storytelling. Not bad.
>>
Jumped up to one of my all time favorites. It's plot is thin and can meander but damn it is a hell of a ride. The guerilla style shooting really elevated the material and seeing real get children visibly terrified of a manic woman wandering through the subway tunnels is a cherry on top.

Enjoy:

Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning
Didn't even look or feel like movie. It was uncanny, like an expensive video production that was trying to be a movie.
Every scene was about the characters explaining what needed to happen in the next scene.
President Kamala was hilarious. So was the non-subplot about her son who we never met and don't care about.
Cruise looked weird in the opening, probably because they had to do reshoots when he wasn't in shape.
I don't think a single made sense. So much of the plot was unexplained. Things just happen when the movie needs them to. Villain needs two nuclear bombs? He has them. Heroes are being fought by Russian commandos? One fight scene and they vanish from the movie. What was the Entity doing on a Russian sub? Who cares?
Hollywood has gone insane when this is the kind of crap they have (supposedly) talented people making.

Great film
>>
Undertone.
Was okay.
Good for a movie with a 500k budget but I think the ending needed to be ‘seeded’ through out the film more instead of its kinda over the top climax.
It might have been better if it was longer but it really like pulled its punches and when you expected a scare or a jump scare it never really came.
Was still fun though

>The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist
Basically one of those YouTube videos where the channel owner features their SO being used as a framing device for both sides (pro and anti AI) to evangelize their point of view. Pretty shitty doc overall with nobody discussing in depth what AI really is; a sophisticated set of tools. A small contextualized and searchable internet in the case of LLMs and a creative media outlet with generative AI (audio, video and images) and the potential dangers that can bring.

Watched Osiris and Infini on Friday, Occupation: Rainfall and The Operation (2008) today.
Osiris was like a long episode of Stargate without the quips, Infini was your typical Elite search and rescue team get "event horizoned". They both get 6/10, very enjoyable.
Occupation: Rainfall was actually fun, but ultimately shit, just 75% better shit than the original. 4/10 just for the military realism they tried to show.
The Operarion was a slow-burn spec ops being led around by a cia guy on a ghost hunting mission. 5/10 did good but missed the tone imo.

That movie is pure TRL-core. The slow-mo casino shootout with the buttrock blasting feels like a Limp Bizkit AMV someone somehow turned into a feature. Kurt Russell chewing scenery in an Elvis jumpsuit, Costner hamming it up like he’s in a different movie entirely, Ice-T and Busey just existing-absolute pre-Patriot Act chaos energy.

It’s not “good” but it’s aggressively 2001 in a way that loops back around to being kino. They really let studios cook back then.

Kino. Filters some people because of the non-linear narrative but it's maybe the best adaption of the spirit of comic books I've seen. It has the feeling of picking up a few random issues and reading them back to back.
