why do people hate this one again
>>
>>220230245
Because they're not white
>>
>>220230262
but I'm not white
>>

It's mostly due to Connery being far too out of shape and older by the time they brought him back to reset the franchise after Lazenby's film didn't receive the reception they expected. The level of camp was the highest it ever had been under Connery's run, which isn't a bad thing, but was a tonal shift from what most people thought of with his run of films. It's very entertaining, but it's flawed if you try to compare it to the proper golden era run that came before. It's pretty much a transitional bond film between two of the longer running stars. It was a hail marry attempt at keeping the franchise going until they could bring in Moore to right the ship. Great characters and memorable moments and sets. I find it rather charming.

I'm going to put on my new jean jacket and watch Goldeneye for the first time ever. Life is good.
>>
>>220230245
it's too silly, like YOLT, but in a less spectacular way
>>
>>220230393
I'd agree with this. I only saw it for the first time as an adult, knowing that this was Connery's last appearance, and it being a stopgap measure. I enjoyed it a lot because it was silly, whereas I thought OHMSS was incredibly slow and boring with only mild spikes of entertainment. The More ones generally being pretty good across the board.

Diamonds Are Forever is so underrated, one of my top 10 Bond movies, and my favorite of Connery's
>>
>>220230524
>Connery's last appearance
does he know
>>
>>220230719
non-EON shit doesn't count
>>
>>220230245
This movie is awesome. Great car fun villains very hot bond girl. Just pure fun sure it's silly but whatever it's the 70s
>>
>>220230739
is it bad? I'm going through the movies and just got to Moore, I liked Thunderball so I thought of watching that
>>
>>220230739
yes it does
>>
>>220230758
Never Say Never Again is so bad that honestly, I could make a better Bond movie, you probably could too
>>
>>220230393
Sean Connery was only 41 here, how did he look like he was 61?
>>
>>220230245
Mostly because Connery is sleepwalking through it. You could already tell he was over the role by YOLT, but it's particularly egregious here.
>>
>>220230245
It all seems a bit lacklustre to me in a way of not quiet sure what it should be and not having much spectate. There is no real follow up with Bond wanting revenge get Blofeld. Obviously Blofeld has already had some variation by this point, but in DAF he seems too detached from what the character should vaguely be. Something like the oil base climax just seems cheap and small compared to YOLT or even the end assault/chase in OHMSS. I do not mind camp in Bond films, but for whatever reason a lot in DAF does not click for me - maybe it is not balanced out well enough, or maybe it leans into it in the wrong way that a Moore type Bond films does differently. I wonder what a version that leaned more into the sleaze of Las Vegas would have been like, that is sort of there yet never all that explored. The worse thing about it in some ways is that there seems like there is probably one or two different good films potentially in it if it was retooled.

Other than Wint and Kidd this movie makes Never Say Never Again look like a stellar Connery outing. Songs better too.
>>
>>220230554
jeez
>>
>>220230245
bond is euro slop, austin powers were unironically better films despite being parody and mostly comedy focused
>>
>>220233271
Fuck no, you'd have to be retarded to think NSNA is better than DAF. Even Casino Royale 67 is better than NSNA. Even the dump I just took is better than Never Say Never Again
>>
>>220230393
>they brought him back to reset the franchise after Lazenby's film didn't receive the reception they expected
It's not that, they were happy with Lazenby but his agent was the most retarded man who ever lived and convinced him to turn it down because he thought James Bond was a dying brand and to avoid being typecast, so Eon begged Connery for one more while they sought a replacement for the subsequent film, as finding a replacement from scratch would delay production too much.
>>
I like OHMSS but my gut tells me people will call me a boring pretentious faggot so I put YOLT next to it in my ranking to balance it out (but I do actually like YOLT)
>>
>>220230758
It's got Mr. Bean in it.

Booze, smoking, heavier exposition to the sun, lead gasoline, not eating vegetables and most important, not xeno-estrogens in the water.

* BAD THINGS ABOUT DAF *

— SEAN
He's old and fat and didn't care and just goofed his way through it.

— BUDGET
SC demanded a $1.25 million salary, which was a huge amount for the time. (He actually gave most of it away to some charity trying to help illiterate Glaswegian teenagers leave a life of crime or something, but that's another story.)

Anyway that basically left them a total of about $500 for the rest of the film. They cover that up quite well, but still. Where are the spectacular stunts? Where are the spectacular set-pieces? It's all just wandering around fairly mundane USA locations.

Compare all this with You Only Live Twice. They had more money to spend there and it shows.

— ENDING
Not the Wint & Kidd bit, I mean the oil rig stuff. It's crap. Some helicopters fly towards it and there are a few minor explosions. This is where their budget constraints really can't be hidden. (I think they messed up the cameras on one shot and couldn't afford to redo it.)

— BLOFELD
Lame. Not helped by the script (the fact that he never drops a henchman into a piranha tank makes a big difference I think). Plus the whole "cloned Blofelds" thing never goes anywhere.

— BAMBI AND THUMPER'S DEFEAT
B&T are cool but the way Bond defeats them makes ZERO sense and is lame. They deserved better.

* GOOD THINGS ABOUT DAF *

— SONG
One of the best in the franchise but it gets overlooked because it's in this film.

— WINT & KIDD
They're fun. And they get the "camp plus menace" just right.
