retarded pseud garbage

Isn't it too gay for TV?
>>
The polity universe starting with dark intelligence is a sci fi movie masterpiece.
>>
As a joke they should just adapt the Kingkiller chronicles and give it a terrible ending just like GoT because the final book will never get released
>>
I never understand people who still want things they like adapted to the screen in the current era. I love Hyperion but I'd soon shave bamboo and force it up my urethra than watch a television show of it. Look at how Foundation turned out.

Ender's game was pretty cool even if they skipped over Peter and valentine taking over the world through the internet.
>>
>>220232050
Yeah, wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Sanderson confirmed a movie deal this year and I even feel bad for the people into him
>>
>>220231493
that doesn't sound appealing, I'd rather it be left alone forever
>>
>>220232072
ehhh, people who are in to Brandon Sanderson are already tasteless retards so they'll probably lap whatever trash he puts his name on
I swear he and Stephen King must have both monkey paw wished to be extremely prolific authors, with the downside of the wish being they're both cursed to never write anything worth reading

>>220232107
I have seen nothing but praise for the books and the magic system so it is in my watchlist.

These books, and I've read most of them, have tons of interesting ideas and incredibly shoddy exection. Bakker's concepts are outstanding, but getting to them is absolutely nebulous.

For example, Kellhus - this is where the Dune influence kicks in, he's kind of a Harkonnen / Atreides God Emperor type of guy but in order for him to become what he is almost up to the very end he needs to do machinations that are completely impossible but Bakker treads them as something that can be achieved by conditioning, which makes him more than a bit autistic in understanding of how people work. It's like saying that Stalin got to where he was all by himself, his power of will and charisma, rather than his rise (and anyone's elses) being anything more than a fortunate set of circumstances. Which, in Kellhus's case goes on and on and on and on (characteristic of Bakker's work, which could be cut by at least 60 percent and be better for it).

Magic schools are great and he has some neat ideas like chorae void but entire concept of chorae is a boring copout that he invented during roleplay sessions in early 80s and never tried to expound upon it much. Mage gets stuck with bead, mage dies.

Concept of Nonman immortality and madness - awesome. Concept of Achamian's school dreaming - fantastic.

He does this obvious reference to Islam and Christianity that better writers such as Wolfe and Cook do much more easily and sometimes are more brazen about it, but manage to make it work far better (for example Books of the South of Black Company series).

He also fucks up the Slog of Slogs section which on paper is a great retelling of Moria x Glanton's Gang, but every single fucking character is an ennobled king / beast of fable. it's like they found Gothmog in Moria rather than some nameless Balrog.

No-God is also a neat Nemesis after we squint past the part that the whole aesthetic surrounding it was lifted from alien ship scene that Giger created in 1979.

>Hyperion

As if that wouldn't be perfect material this woke era.

>Kingkiller chronicles
Damn I remember that shit being popular 15 years ago and there's still no new book since then LMAO
>>
>>220231493
they would completely neuter kellhus and make him conventionally likeable instead of the sociopathic rapist manipulator that he is
>>
>>220231493
That's some pussyass shit, they need to adapt this.

I got this from Google, but I just checked the thread and the thank you isn't even ironic, the whole thing is people praising it as the best prose and characterization of his career

I read a lot and Sanderson's stuff is far from the worst out there. Over hyped, sure, but it's just mediocre at best. His problem is that he writes too much
>>
>>220236312
his writing is genuinely getting worse, it's gone from YA to bad children's story, with hamfisted modern identity politics written in verbatim

Fully agree. I’ve read the first three (I thought the series was a trilogy and gave up after the ending of the third and learning there’s like 5 more or whatever) and Bakker is so fucking repetitive. My biggest problems in this order were:
>insanely repetitive character arcs.
Arcs is probably too strong of a word, loops would be better. It’s like he had half a book of content for each character but needed to stretch the plot out so they just kinda keep doing the same thing over and over in different settings. The same inner turmoil monologues over and over again.
>grimdark rapey gay edgelord stuff.
I get that it’s kinda part of what makes the books unique maybe keep it at like 75% instead of 100.
>the world implicitly bending to the plot as the story goes on.
Best example I can think of is how the chorae go from exceedingly rare to there being entire units full of people shooting them.
>being too on the nose with historical inspiration and allusion
Obviously fantasy and sci fi are often inspired but just copy pasting Rome, barbarians, ottomans, etc feels lazy.
I agree that there is a lot of good stuff though. I think it’s one of the series that would actually benefit from an adaption because it’s: less subtle (perfect for tv viewers), could cut out hundreds of pages of repetitive internal monologue, tone down the rape demons, etc. Kinda like how The Boys cut out most of the purported extreme edgy shit from the comics (which I’ve only seen the first season of and haven’t read lol).
I do like the concept of the hyper-autist sociopath monk being the savior and never knowing if supporting him is gonna be a huge mistake. Kinda interesting where as the protags “win” they could actually be losing just in a diffferent way.
You think it’s worth trying to finish the series?
>>
>>220236805
Oh it is. Wind and Truth was fucking awful and a genuine slog to read. You should've screen capped that horrible "I'm his therapist" line instead. He needs to stop writing so much and just focus on projects individually. Those first three Stormlight books are pretty entertaining too.

things in the second apocalypse are more convoluted than is apparent on the surface

now the inchoroi and the other races of the ark are all biological constructs or puppets, it is the ark that was the brain of the operations and in the gaps of successive wars is when they start to innovate

for eg dragons are first, followed by sranc iirc, and in these times they reach out to nonmen, the aporos (irl it roughly translates to an impassable maze), and somehow they together are able to create the chorae, its a feat thats never been replicated

consider also that the nonmen are mentally stunted, they cannot perceive paintings, or the abstract in general but can only think in terms of absolute reality and thus their device the chorae is based on actual non-being in that universe

humans on the other hand when they get involved absolutely master the programming of the ark's computing, an artifact that deals with the real and the abstract. So the no-god program is only booted once the humans get involved, the nonmen cannot comprehend it and the swarm are limited by their origin to initiate the program

its these little details that are not explicitly stated that make it more enjoyable

>You think it’s worth trying to finish the series?
absolutely, the other series, the aspect emperor has very little pov from kellhus so we mostly follow the story through his children and achamian

achamian's entire arc throughout these 4 books and the people who accompany him are the highlight of the entire 7 books for me, the character of cleric is unlike anything that has come before
>>
Are there any obscure horror oriented fantasy series?
>>
>>220232460
Didn't the author said he'd release a new chapter as a charity fundraiser, then pocketed 90% of the raised money and never actually posted the chapter?
>>
esmenet is my least favorite character in fiction
i fucking hate this bitch
achaimans final scene in 3rd book is barely cathartic
>>
>>220233653
The story would make no sense if they did that plus you just know they'd love to do a story about some Jesus-like character actually being just a manipulative sociopath.
>>
>>220231493
the only thing i've seen about this story is that most of the fans admit the first four(?) books are basically unreadable but it gets good after that i swear bro, it was such a bad way of selling the thing that i've never touched it
