This Film series ruined my life and gave me crippleing, life-long, Clinical OCD. And now i'm going to watch them for 'exposure therapy'
I plan to watch all six of them now if you want to join me.
>>
Nah, but good luck. Rube Goldberg is about to kill your ass
>>
I have real OCD, not the 'I can't leave the volume at an odd number' bullshit kind.

how OCD works is: there's a 'trigger' which causes extreme stress and panic. leading to a 'Ritual' which at first can be odd but quick and easy to alleviate the stress.
While that sounds good at first the 'trigger' then occurs constantly every time you notice or even think about about it. leading to your odd ritual again, and again and again.
This leads to doing the ritual over and over again, lets say, ten times a minute. all the while the time, energy and stress leaves me fatigued.

This shit is no joke, I have had meds for decades and been in and out of hospital when things were at their worst. It influences my day to day actives and decision making in a very unhealthy way. It has held me back from my potential and my development.
>>
An example of some of the triggers and rituals for instance:
1. Hitler, I couldn't look at a picture of Hitler, or the swastikas or of Nazis in general and most importantly i couldn't 'think' of it either. in fear that I would 'become' him or become a Nazi. That was the trigger. for the ritual, I would shout, wash my hands, spit (sometimes into my jumper) and chant something like 'I've nothing in common with Hitler, nothing to do with him, nothing like him, 0%him.....' ect. I would have to say the chant the same way every time, like the script to a never-ending rehearsal. Sometimes I would randomly shout 'Winston Churchill!!!' because hes the 'opposite' to hitler. I would shout that in the middle of class at random intervals. This in a way is how OCD and Tourette's are linked.

2. There was a kid in my class in a school I moved too, lets call him 'Frank' who was the ultimate Fuck-up, lol-cow. the class made him the butt of every joke, and the guy was basically Jar Jar-Binks mixed with Dobby the house elf.
I was an apsoulte choatic luncay and tragic horror with this character, he was an aposulte clumbsey sociopath and it disturbed me and most of the class to get inside his aposolute 'alien' mind-set. The trigger was 'him' I couldn't look at him, every time I was aware of his existance (even through intrusive thoughts) i had to do my rituals, which involved making chicken-like noises and chanting that I am not 'him' I am 'me'. not to mention that I couldn't touch him or touch anything contaminated by him, or else i had to de-contaminate in the bathroom. trigger fear was I would turn into him or become like him, the lol-cow of the classroom, but because of the OCD's reaction to him, I sort-of did. kinda like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Your thinking, this is all bullshit. And I agree, it is, logically speaking.

But OCD doesn't attack the logical part of your mind, it attacks the stressful flight or fight part of it.

I want to see a Final Destination v. Saw franchise
>>
Why Final Destination?
well its how the premise is of the movies are presented.
To me these are needlessly cruel, nihalistic and mean spirited movies way more than other horror films. It depicts a hellish universe that exists only to torture and torment its denizens.
I wouldn't have a problem if the incidents depicted in the film are as a result of an un-natural malevolent element, sort of like Damian from the Omen films or the titular 'Monkey' from that film.
But the fact that the films suggests that its events are 'a part of nature' is what my mind completely rejects, even if it is a thrasy splatter series.

The Trigger is anything to do with this franchise: hearing its name, watching clips or screenshots, even thinking about it or how the logistics of that universe works.
The fear is that I will land in the FD universe or our universe will operate like its.
The ritual can be: spitting, washing hands, trying to 'force' the thoughts out of my head, and reciting a chant. The chant changes from time to time but for the moment I have to say word for word:

"neither you nor I live in any 6 or 7 FD Universe, neither you nor I belong in any 6 or 7 FD universe, neither you nor I were born in any 6 or 7 FD universe, neither you nor I are in any 6 or 7 FD universe, neither you nor I have ever been in any 6 or 7 FD universe, neither you nor I will ever be in any 6 or 7 FD universe. The entire FD universe is 100% Scanned, 100% Blood-red wrong, 100% Constant, 0% (My Name), 0% Home, 0% Change. I'll send you back to the same spyro the ratchet and clack, hmh long-tailed argonian, green gargoyles, pokemon, lion king, toy story, batman, spiderman, kung-fu panda, samurai jack, how to train your dragon universe you were born in, were in austrailia, were watching the land before time and were helping (neighbor) across the way, and everything I said will happen trough your mouth will happen when you clap your hands and click your fingers.

(clap hands and clicks fingers).
>>
Im tired of saying that chant over and over again.

now there have been other 'triggers' and 'rituals' like the aforementioned 'Hitler' and 'Frank' ( I even had one for pigs) but I grew out of them, how ever the FD one has stayed for decades and Im really sick of it.

Exposure therapy is all in the name, its going full force to experience this truama head on in an effort to combat stress around it.

watching these films could drastically help my condition or send me into a downward spiral, I'm willing to risk it as the quality of my life is at stake.

Now my history with this series is as follows: I used to always see the cover of the first and second video cassette at Xtra-Vision( that might give away my age and location, also RIP Xtra-Vision), the cover of the first one look really cool, I thought it was a supernatural teen superhero movie like buffy the vampire slayer. the trailer showed explosions and car crashes, and as I said the cover was very deceptive with the main characters looking cool and stylish. I was shocked to find out it was actually a horror film.
I was one a play date with a boy from a working -class area and he bragged that he watched every horror movie and that FD was his favourite. My minder pointed out that they weren't 'kids' movies and he shugged ' so, I can handle it'. Still I thought they where 'thriller' movies with the usual happy endings and such.

When FD 3 came out my friend saw it and described in graphic details what happens in it. my jaw was on the ground, I didn't expect it to be that gory with f-bombs and boobs (it was rated 15+ which was the same rating they gave Batman 89, film classification is retarded here) not to mention its one of those movies where everyone dies at the end.
my view of what i thought these movies were was shattered.
I decided to give it a watch on sky movies just as the OCD was blossoming, big mistake, I watched on and off about 60% and this is where it became a major trigger.

over the years I looked up death compilations from these movies out of morbid curiosity and to see if that kind of exposure therapy helped, it didn't

I guess the only thing to do is watch the whole films and see if that puts the nail in the coffin once and for all.

How about 6 people are stuck in a john kramer trap but they're also being hunted by death. So while they keep winning saw games, they also subsequently die by silly accidents inside the saw arena.
>>
I mean I hate these films for ruining my life, but at the same time, I really want to like them.

The premise is awesome and genuinely scary, it leads to some very inventive and suspensful set-peices. not to mention they are a great time-capsule to an era im very nostalgic for.
A lot of people seem to really like them as well and I want to join in on the fun.
>>
Later tonight im going to watch the first one and give my thoughts and review.
>>

As I get older I'll think of something stressful and it sends a jolt through my body and it makes me convulse for a second involuntarily and it's very noticeable to people around me. Happens more and more every year somewhat alarming not sure if ocd symptom or what
>>
>>220235362
Ha, watched the first one for the first time the other night. Pretty shit movie, but it's entertaining enough with a beer in hand.
>>
>>220237534
Possibly could be, I can't diagnose you as I don't have the criteria, but all I'll say is a lot of people have a mild form of OCD on a spectrum. The question to ask is how much it's affecting your life. If your 'tics' are willfully committed then it's best to embrace the fear and tackle them now and refuse to do them. If not, and they are getting worse then absolutely get some help or a diagnosis. Your mental health is vitally important to maintain.

Have you considered medication?

>>220238066
this guy's cringe as fuck. he's not even engaging my great idea about saw vs. final destination.
>>
>>220238018
Would it help you to know that in the second film the characters survive?
>>
>>220238103
It's good, ok. How about in order to be free from the cycle, they have to torture and sacrifice each other from Kramers traps.
>>
>>220238161
I know, from dead meat, and technically so do the characters from 1 and 3, 4 is the first one where everyone dies.
>>
>>220235362
Movies aren’t real. You’ve been deceived
>>
>>220238177
now we're cookin
>>
>>220238224
All of the characters from 1 are dead by the end of 2 and the characters from 3 are heavily implied (and maybe confirmed) to have died at the end. The two main characters in 2 are the only characters in the series to actually beat Death.
>>
>>220238295
I'm convinced devon sawa is going to return in a future installment indicating he survived, as for 3 I have to see the context but I know some of the creators were fighting over whether they live or die at the end. The compromise was that they appeared to die, but it's a premonition that is less likely to happen.
>>
>>220238492
That they are less likely to escape from is what I meant to say
>>
Posts like this always make me feel better about myself. At least I'm not like you.
>>
>>220238596
Yes, be appreciative you don't have a debilitating mental illness
>>
>>220238492
I don't think Devon Sawa will return. They try to have maintain continuity in these movies.
>>
>>220238813
I'm definitely mentally ill, but not to this extent
>>
>>220238910
Then be appreciative
>>
>>220238244
OCD doesn't affect the logical part of the mind
>>
>>220238872
Well killing him off screen was bullshit and I don't see how anyone can like that decision. They will probably say he was put on a coma with the brick, and when he woke up assumed another identity, technically escaping the cycle.

Huh... Ebert liked it
>>
The problem is with this series is it's no different than a happy tree friends cartoon. Why would you waste time when you can watch the death scenes in YouTube
>>
I'm going to put the movie on. Please bump the thread.
>>
Good thread. I think you need Terrence Malick to direct Final Destinations.
>>
Ngl, it's pretty good so far.
>>
>>220235585
I know that feel OP

I also suffer from OCD and the amount of time I've wasted on my rituals / things that alleviate that thought is bonkers. I really wish I could be on medication but I hate any stimulants -- either they fuck up my sleep or they cause me to lose my hair (no thanks I'm already fighting a losing battle at my age) or other shit (like trying to explain to a new job that I will fail any drug tests due to prescription)

Let's not even talk about recursive perseverating thoughts (what ifs)

aaaah
>>
>>220241732
There is an appeal to the rest of the things, not just the climax of the goldberg machine.

Seeing the prota slowly realize that shit is fucking crazy, trying to convince others of his conspiracy theory, theory crafting some way to "beat death", it is an entertaining premise at least, whether its executed well or not its up to you.

1.
I just watched the first movie.

I was kinda shocked how much different it is to it's sequels, there's a lot of sentimentality and earnestness, the deaths are also very realistic.
Most of all it's both clearly driven by supernatural occurrences, at the same time the deaths are very realistic. This makes it way scarier in my opinion.
There was genuine thought put into this more-so than other slashers.

Why couldn't the sequels be more like this one?

I enjoyed it because it put mystery and suspense first and actually acknowledged the philosophical end of the premise.

Alex should have remained the protagonist in the sequels.
>>
>>220236411
Is misspelling "absolute" one of your rituals?
>>
Continued.....(1). I didn't get the ending though, was the bully always on the list? Did it skip Alex?
Why did the FBI drop the case?
Are these the rules of it's universe that everyone is on death's design?
If so, why has no one realized it, why is this not common knowledge amongst the people of the universe?
How did Alex get his psychic gift?
>>
I did appreciate it thematically looked at a teenager's growth into adulthood, addressing his own mortality. There is even a sentimental suggestion for the afterlife which I didn't expect from this most nihilistic of series.

One thing that pisses me off greatly is that the original ending had Alex sacrifice himself so that Clear could live with his Baby. They only used the ending they had for the purpose of sequels to follow Alex.

Only they didn't, they killed him off off-screen.
>>
I'm also surprised at the film's low rotten tomatoes score. That was a good movie.
>>
If this thread is up tomorrow I'm going to maybe watch the second one, and if I got a good night sleep without any OCD rituals.
>>
>>220235362
dude they're just Rube Goldberg black comedy movies fucking get over yourself.
