I just recently rewatched it and great movie. I do believe she had organics (perhaps only there to be labelled as such and avoid the ai shame). Her and puppetmaster reflect each other, she's aspiring to a more perfect Ai version of herself and it's aspiring to a more perfect human (or at least humanlike in some ways, the reproductive side of it, merging and spawning, not copying) version of itself. That's the mirror's reflection (and why she goes on about how her work conditions, limitations make her more of what she is then she would be if she just quit). The ghost being that aspiration, may just be installed to keep her from going nutty (the same way the driver's installed memories of a family keep him relatively sane until challenged).

Yes, very good. It's one of the 2000s classics, beloved by many to this day. Also the only good part of the Blood franchise as a whole (the original 2000 movie is good if you like shlocky action movies with a dark tone, and C+ is only good if you're into hilariously edgy and shock-value focused trashy slashers with a lot of unintentional comedy). It took an already good concept from the og movie about the story of a female vampire hunter and secret organizations and made it actually good by giving the main girl an actual personality and likable human traits while also focusing on her family and her mysterious past. It's both a good dark urban fantasy story about vampire hunters and also a good story about a personal life journey of one girl where everything slowly changes (not necessarily for the better). It's so sad that the matrix started out as a ripoff of GITS 95 + HK Action Movies.... and then the GITS TV shows came out and they were just a ripoff of the matrix complete with really corny action scenes with embarrassing "bad ass techno/rock" music that someone who is classically trained and very talented in traditional orchestral music, but has no idea how to make techno/rock, composed.

That era of anime looked so bad. It's all washed out, there's zero contrast, and the attempt at realistic colouring just makes it look drab and dull. (the same thing happened with video games during the seventh generation).
And coz it's a TV show, it had a tiny budget that had to be stretched out across dozens of episodes, so the animation is like 4 frames per second.

Like a lot of anime, GITS was something i saw when i was younger and thought i didn't understand it because it was so mature and complex, and that i was watching something made for intellectuals/adults and i would eventually understand it as i got older.

Now, 30 years later, i realise it didn't make any sense because the writing is awful, not because it's so smart.
Luckily it's well directed, has good art, and Kenji Kawai's music is outstanding. So it's still watchable, but you have to turn your brain off and just enjoy it on a purely audio/visual level.
The 1995 movie works because of this.
The rest of the franchise doesn't.

No one "took" her memories. It is left ambiguous in Oshiis movie as to whether she was "born" that way or became cyberised later in life. She clearly remembers her "birth" as a cyborg though. She is disquieted with her cartesian dilemma, the disconnection between her human mind and artificial body to the point where she questions her humanity. She feels trapped also by the fact her top of the line body is property of the government and she has to work for them if she wants to keep what is hers. The central theme of the movie has always been marriage and the transformation into a new thing, her merging of herself and Puppet Master represents their evolution to move beyond what they were individually.

The story is fine, its just not paced very well.
A big important company is making sex-bots, something goes wrong with a few of them, section 9 is sent to investigate.
Batou realizes its bigger than it appears, gets himself mind hacked, they investigate a lead in some special economic zone, get stuck in the mind palace, and then batou discovers that the sex bot company had been abducting children, and duplicating their ghosts into the sex bots to make them 'more real' but someone patched a back door to make the sex bots go crazy to alert the authorities.
Batou goes to their submarine factory to free the kids and destroy the facility.

The real problem is you need to drill into the skull and implant electrodes, which the body will begin to reject almost immediately and begin calcifying it.
I remember in the early 90's they were doing studies with a blind guy where they used a really simple 8 bit camera and directly stimulated his optic nerves, and he was able to have this super low resolution view. Too low resolution to really 'see' anything with details, but he could navigate around without bumping into walls.
Again, the problem with a lot of cybernetic biotech shit is getting the body to not reject the foreign objects it has to bond with.
