Why did so many people sign up to be in the military and earn citizenship if it seemed like civilians had it good?
>>
>>220244213
Its a good system. If you want to have your say in government then toughen up and serve on the battlefield first. Otherwise enjoy a safe easy life you don't get to whine about it

what about if they create battlefields on purpose? how does the system handle peacetimes where people can expect to not die in service?

Iirc it gives the right to have children.

When there are no battles to fight it means we’ve conquered the universe and can finally sleep

Same pol threads over and over.

I'm not sure, I'm dying of monkey pox and double AIDS.
>>

I want to talk about the movie but why do the threads always unfold the same way?
>>
>>220244213
Did you even watch the movie? Civilians cant vote, and are denied other privledges that only enlisted get.

Why should you get a say in how things are run, when you arent willing to give your life to save your planet?
>>
>>220245702
What privileges? They all seemed to have it pretty good. Rico had rich parents
>>

they didn't show the slums of buenos aires. historically, poor shitholes have been the recruiting pool for cannon fodder

In the showers one of the talks about child limits.

Nobody who enlisted in the movie was shown to be from a poor shithole.

They had it good because they were rich you dumb fuck

the black chick, the girl who wanted to have kids, the mexican guy. they gave rico shit for being a rich kid
>>

in theory, heinlein's system could work well, but the issue is that it assumes the goal of the military aligns with the prosperity of the nation's people. What would happen if such a system were implemented in America? The voter base would be a bunch of ZOGbot welfare niggers and brainwashed evangicucks who think its their sacred duty to sacrifice our nation for israel.

And I know he outlines that service isn't just military, but come on, that's clearly the focus. The whole thing still does not protect against jewish propaganda, it just means they need to target their propaganda toward a narrower demographic
>>
>>220245498
Because the movie is in fact a failed propaganda piece. The book is infinitely more entertaining and interesting.

>Verhoeven had once spoken of the anti-fascist intentions of Starship Troopers and how he wanted the film to be a satire of the right-wing. When the director set about reading Heinlein’s novel, he found that he could only read about two of its “boring” chapters and asked screenwriter Edward Neumeier to tell him the story instead.
>“It’s a very right-wing book,” Verhoeven said before noting that he thought he “at least partially succeeded in commenting” on the kind of fascist beliefs that he found in Heinlein’s source text. “It would be eat your cake and have it,” the director explained. “All the way through, we were fighting with the fascism, the ultra-militarism. All the way through, I wanted the audience to be asking, ‘Are these people crazy?'”
Why is it that when liberals try to show how bad fascism is it makes you like the “fascist” characters more?
Same thing happened with The Boys.
>>
>>220246801
Is that just shit he came up with years later? Like Moore and Watchmen?
>>
>>220246855
It’s from an interview from 2014 so probably. But he made Robocop as a satire of the 80’s republicans and it had the same result.
>>
>>220244213
Military service isn't the only way to attain citizenship, it's just the quickest and easiest way to get it guaranteed.
>>
>>220246801
Fascists from what I noticed are very easy to fool with appearances. They are the bread and circus consumers who will lap up an enemy to distract from the people lying to them at home.

>Why is it that when liberals try to show how bad fascism is it makes you like the “fascist” characters more?
It doesn't, you're just stupid.
>>
>>220245945

No, I think Federal Service(in the film) just helps people who had served, in this case, she probably would get some benefits. Just like the fake Japanese guy(Shujumi in the film appears to be played by a South East Asian) would get his college tuition paid by the military.

In the book, you just get the right to vote, if I remember correctly. I just checked with Google A.I. and in the book, you just get the right to vote and hold public office or join law enforcement or teach the "History and Moral Philosophy" class.

And according to Google A.I., you may be right about the child limits in the film although that isn't in the books. Also, the red-haired woman(that later gets captured and either is experimented on or killed) who wanted children is probably a direct and personal attack on Robert Heinlein, the original author of the Starship Troopers novel. Heinlein liked red haired women and was also probably infertile. Not only that, but Heinlein's right leaning politics and philosophy are the opposite of Verhoevans.

>>220246580

Google A.I. says the opposite and there was no increase in people joining the military after the movie came out, probably because the U.S. and the world were in relatively peaceful times except for certain parts of the world.

>>220245981

I thought it was just Ace Levy who aimed some barbs at Rico for being a rich kid. I think Breckinridge was the who was from an agricultural background. At least they got the "race-mixing" or "race-mingling" sort of right since the African-American woman was sort of into the agricultural guy. Heinlein himself was anti-racist despite being right wing. That's why the Starship Troopers novel was full of people from all over the world.
>>
>>220248994
>No, I think Federal Service
Yes, it's literally stated that serving makes it easier to be allowed to have a child
>>
>>220249098

Yeah, will that's the movie. Book is different.
>>
So the bugs didn't attack Earth first and it was them defending from human attacking their planet?
>>
>>220244213
Free ham flavored gum.
>>
>>220244213
In the book that's literally the point where the only reason to serve in the military is the act of doing it, but in the movie they make it so you need to be a citizen to have children and do anything that requires higher education.

you're thinking of Aliens which supposedly caused a bump in recruitment for the US Marines, even though the marines in the film all die horribly and pointlessly on a mission where their lives are carelessly used as bait by a greedy corporate middle manager

>>
>>220244798
In the book, there were other deadly jobs that didn't involve warfare like hard labor or experimental research.
>>
>>220248973
It's the opposite you fucking retard. People naturally see the value in cause and effect and motivation for purpose. Your stupid ass is reacting to it all with retardedness and need these failed propaganda pieces to do the actually subverting that only work on complete retards like you. No one is making ANY subversion for fascism. It's what normal people naturally want and see is effective, but we cant have that, because evil will do everything to SUBVERT it, and morons like you gladly oblige them. You're defective and can't even grasp it. Everything that goes on in your mind is an alt reality that has to bend the truth so you cant face the fact that you're a mutant. One big massive cope dealing with the failure you are as a human. You were probably lied to that you were one in the first place, you brownoid.
>>
>in the book there is heavy lobbying from the dock workers unions to allow their jobs to be one of the citizenship requirements "task" because how essential they are

It is not all sunshine and rainbows in the book
There is clearly a trend of expansion of the voting base implied in the novel that clearly go against so called anti franchise society that people are claiming.

The movie had to simplify a lot of things
But even if you sign up for arm service, the chance of you getting killed would be really low during peacetime.

The point is you have to prove that you are willing to spend the time and effort to provide for society without benefit yourself before you are given a say (vote) in the said society.

Wouldn't being dead make voting rights moot?

I think its possible the bugs were innocent and that the Earth government false flagged themselves with the asteroid attack or nuked Beunos Aires and blamed the bugs in order to justify war possibly for the sake of conquest and exploiting resource rich planets the bugs controlled and or its also possible if they could control the bug leadership they could enslave the bugs to use as a labour force/military force as well as possibly exploit any biological resources they possess.

I think the issue is that the movie presents itself straightforward that not only are the bugs aggressors that do horrible shit and deserve extermination but it seems the human government and its systems have done an excellent job of providing a prosperous and courageous society that rewards people with a meritocratic system that depends not only on intelligence but courage to engage in military service.

Essentially its poor form to try to critisize or satirize facism when you present an environement where that type of system not only works but also makes sense.
>>
>>220246580
Because men are fucking dumb and let “wow bro that looks cool!” override the parts where the military grunts always die horrible deaths
>>
>>220255980
>I think the issue is that the movie presents itself straightforward that not only are the bugs aggressors that do horrible shit and deserve extermination
Are they though? The asteroid is the falsest false flag that ever flagged falsely, and wasn't the mormon colony heavily armed and you know, settling a bug planet? the bugs tear people apart with no remorse, but then again the Starship Troopers tm show no remorse either. They even mirror the brain bug by having NPHs character be some sort of biologically superior psychic.
And you know, the thing about the movie is that it's made a bit like those stupid online horror videos where something normal is happening, like a cooking show, and then something fucked up happens but nobody is shocked, like the chef telling you to add baked human fingers or whatever. it's filmed like an extremely shitty B movie with worthless saccharine acting, it's highlighting the contrast between how that society sees itself and how we would see it. that it sort of makes sense for that world to be like that is meant to be suspect. when someone tells a story of how suddenly everyone just started hating them for no reason, the story teller is probably leaving something out.

>>220256042
we should have rock drilling or woodcutting programs for bored young men to join to do something productive instead of dreaming about getting blown up. just make a competition which team can chop the most wood a day with their muscles so you can have the camraderie of winning against an "enemy".
>>
>>220245702
>Civilians cant vote
Who cares about voting?

>you just get the right to vote and hold public office or join law enforcement or teach the "History and Moral Philosophy" class.
Sounds good, sociopaths who want to become politicians should risk getting their ass blown off on a bug planet
