When I was young I liked Godzilla 2000 and the animated series. My parents would rent vhs tapes from the library and started adding Godzilla tapes to the mix for me. Soon enough I saw this baby godzilla stuff, and it singlehandedly convinced me that Godzilla was Not Cool, and I never gave a shit about Godzilla ever since.Idk what went off in my brain. I still dont like the baby design and think its scenes are cringworthy, but its weird to think it could "ruin" Godzilla for me. Today, I could probably separate Godzilla in a badass movie/scene from Godzilla teaching ambaby Godzilla how to burp and stuff, but I'm an adult now and the damage is done. The closest thing I can thing of to this, os watching Eminem's rap battle challenge to Donald Trump. I never liked Trump but this simply ruined Eminem for me. It killed the thing in my brain that said "this is cool, I am cool" while listening to his music, made me feel like I was watching a 50 year old lesbian act "hard". I could never take Eminem for his base satirical value since then because he has actually been, in full seriousness, as silly and gay as anything he could call silly or gay. Flipped a switch in my brain. I realized I like dead artists because they can't suddenly be cringe and gay- a cool dead man is stubbornly cool.
Just imagine you are a Hank Williams fan and one day he releases an album called Baby Hank and its all about learning to poop and being a good little baby boy and stuff.
Anyone remember the season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers where Billy is the only adult and the rest of them were kids? What was it in the '80s and '90s that caused producers to assume that I would want to watch a kid be a kid, instead of watching badass ninjas and monsters do serious battle and shit??
