What's the best Lovecraftian film of all time and why was it directed by Ridley "I've only made 2 good movies" Scott?

>Ridley "I've only made 2 good movies" Scott
says A "who hasn't achieved anything" non.

OP would have done a better job directing a film than this…

Looks like a PlayStation cut scene.

How eloquent.

Alien wasn't lovecraftian, nobody went mad after seeing the slimy undescribable monster. At best it can be described as Lovecraft lite

One of the most gruesome, authentic and satisfying scenes I’ve ever seen.
>>

The Alien franchise doesn't seem Lovecraftian at all to me.
Sure the aliens are mysterious in the first movie but they're not unknowable and they're not irresistible, and this only becomes more and more apparent even as the first movie and particularly as the franchise moves forward.
>>
>>220252074
Notice how I only referenced the first movie in my post so your point about the alien in subsequent movies is immediately deemed irrelevant

Also if you need further proof Alien captures Lovecraftianism better than 99% of movies go look at the HR Giger concept art

>What's the best Lovecraftian film of all time
Incantation.
>>
>>220252119
But even in the first movie the alien is just mysterious rather than unknowable. The crew studies it and learns some stuff about it and uses that to figure out a way to hunt and kill it, and eventually they win.
It's just a weird monster, like if you didn't know what a tiger was that could be just as threatening in the right circumstances.

Mate, there's literally a scene of the crew discovering some giant fucking throne with a massive skeleton that isn't given any explanation at all unless you wanna cheat and bring up the Prometheus retconning. The first Alien absolutely is Lovecraftian right to its very core.
>>
>>220252430
Again that's not unknowable, there are a lot of things they don't know but nothing that they couldn't theoretically discover.
Just because there are unresolved mysteries in a plot doesn't make it Lovecraftian.
>>
>>220252479
Okay then name me a sci-fi movie where something isn't theoretically knowable

Ridley made three of the all time greats with Alien, Bladerunner, and Gladiator. He made other decent movies as well, like Kingdom of Heaven. He only gained a reputation as a hack because of his later, shittier movies.

Hello Ridley. The wrong kid died.

you don't know that ridley
t. swift is a regular as is seth rogen
>>
>>220252030
This movie could've been so kino if he just made it 40 years earlier and didn't cast 2 Redditors as the leads
>>
>>220252512
I'm not sure that there is one.
I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that The Cabin in the Woods is Lovecraftian.

I almost want to say that every movie ridley scott has made is progressively worse than the last one
a near plateau for years and then a steep slope into shit

Careful nigger! For the gates are swiftly becoming unkept, and the infant known as "Filmmaking" may rapidly develop into a Man by way of GPU algorithmic generation of imagery in the shredded hands of forgotten geniuses of the backwater mud valleys.
BEHOLD!

>>220252125
Man, I’m going to check that out. Also, I’m nominating Prince of Darkness and In the Mouth of Madness as other Lovecraftian horror movies. I find both of those more Lovecraftian than Alien.

About a Place in the Kinki Region (sometimes it's just called Kinki) is another recent one in the same vein.
>>
>>220252512
Prince of Darkness’s “Satan” is unknowable. Even the shit leaking out of his ancient prison (which may in fact be him) straight up defies physics.

Thanks for the recs.
