there's a plot line where mulder suddenly stops believing in ayylmaos and is convinced in like an hour that it's a massive government psyop targeted specifically at him because scully met some asshole who told her this. scully believes this guy 100% despite the fact he physically assaulted her and was caught stealing shit from an fbi lab. why?
because it was a tv show and they were running out of plots
Remember when they turned Mulder into a cynic for the revival seasons and also confirmed that outside of the roswell crash and (maybe) the colonists, there were no ayys and it was all a "conspiracy of men"? The main story goes to shit almost immediately after the events of the first movie. It's just retcon after retcon at that point.
>>220255723One thing I thought was sort of funny (before the reboot) is that the syndicate weren't really in the wrong and Mulder 'exposing' them would've just got the human race wiped out.
>>220255723I'm only on season 3 myself, but so far there has already been like a dozen unique instances where the glowies faked aliens / alien events, so I could see him believing it's all lies.>oh shit glowing lights>nah it's a stealth helicopter>alien autopsy trucks!! Nope, they're all fake>aliens being autopsied in train cars? no, they're not ayys, just humans that have been experimented on>ALIEN DEATH CAMPS!! -- no, weird nazi science experiment
>>220255889>It's just retcon after retcon at that point.Seems more realistic than some kind of a grand master plan that just falls together in the end with every event in every episode somehow playing in it like the "modern audiences" seem to demand.
>>220255944>ayys are real>on second thought, no they're not>it was all a smokescreen>ignore that time I thought about myself and Deep Throat capping a grey after its ship crashed
>>220255915"it must be aliens" was mulder's starting assumption for most cases.
>>220255723One of those times where Mulder becomes disillusioned with everything. Think about how much he went through. >laughing stock of the FBI>constantly threatened by shadow groups>dad killed because he was about tell him the truth>sister missing >sees an AYYY or monster of the week, Scully never believes him
>>220255974ultimately he was correct
>>220256169Smoking Man confirmed that there was very little involvement of aliens outside of the Roswell crash (and even then, that might be a lie too).
>tfw the big mystery was that Mulder's father raped Scully and Scully's son was actually Mulder's half brother
>>220256183everything was the shadow govt trying to plan around the alien invasion. it all goes back to aliens.
>>220255889>t outside of the roswell crash and (maybe) the colonists, there were no ayysSo besides these few aliens, there were no aliens? That doesn't seem like it would change anything very much
>except all those aliens, there were no aliensingenious, never would've thought
>>220255723That's an interesting plot because I think it's the thing closest to the actual irl truth of aliums being a cover for military mind control, holographic and weapons tech. They just outright told us. Teehee, those little scamps, gotta love em.
The alien shit was truly evil. They had dissidents distracted by the stupidest thing in the world, while meanwhile they destroyed the country under their very feet.
the most unbelievable part of the xfile is nobody shooting cig man in the face and then shooting him in the face again. his hard ass super spy shit would backfire at some point over 50 years.
