is film noir just a memeble genre in total or are there any actually good films?
>>
That's a good question andi default to Blade Runner on this topic since the theatrical release had a Harrison Ford voiceover, my Dad loves that version. It also feels more Noir than the later cuts.

I'm more than happy to debate this.

Black and white is not Noir. THE MIST was filmed in black and white like 9 years ago. Noir is story and narrative. This WEBM spammer knows nothing.

fun fact, there's a famous noir guy who said that only three genres exist: comedy, drama and MYSTERY
I dont remember who it was or why did he said it, but there it is

>Alton maintained that films come in one of three categories: comedy, drama, and mystery. Mysteries, said Alton, allow a cameraman the chance to eschew "chocolate-covered" lighting and, instead, to light "100 percent naturally." "Naturalism," or "realism," refers to an experience such as a walk on foggy night that fills one with a certain sense of awe. Lighting fog, mist and smoke was an Alton specialty. Noted Alton, "The most interesting things in the world happen at night. Of course, lighting, and light in itself, is a mystery!"

Do you realise most noir films happened to be shot in black and white, right? All of those Webms (their movies) have the story, narrative, themes and atmosphere of the noir style.

>what is the noir style?
my personal understanding of noir is that it's a style that thematically drinks from gangster films, detective novels, pulp and harboiled literature. Visually, the trademark is obviously the stark contrast between lighting and shadows. As I said it's a style, and not a genre, so it isn't trapped to the urban setting... there are western noirs too.
>are there film noir movies that are'nt b/w ?
Yes.
House of Bamboo, Niagara, Leave Her To Heaven, Vertigo, Chinatown

black and white isn't REQUIRED for noir but it is the best representation of noir. it is explicitly about representing light and dark.

Yeah, absolutely. That's why I posted it. Solid 9/10.
