I have The Hobbit (1977) on DVD and watched it with my kids and while we all thought it was fun and the voice acting was great (Orson Bean, John Huston, Richard Boone, Hans Conried, Brother Theodore, Otto Preminger, I mean COME THE FUCK ON no way you could get a team anything like this today, they'd have Seth Rogan voice the dragon or some shit) it's the animation that kinda keeps this flick from being true kino. The Rankin-Bass animation looks cheap and definitely screams "hey kids cheap Saturday morning cartoon here, not an animated epic, stand by for a Fruity Pebbles commercial", but well the producers got what they paid for. Here's what I was thinking: they need to take the audio track from this and keep it but they need to have AI re-do the animation, that way the kino 1977 audio stays but now it accompanies really cool cartoon visuals and that will bring this thing up to the level it was denied originally. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
>>220275220whats stopping you from doing that? The tools are affordable
>>220275408wait what? I'm no computer hax0r, I'm just a 46 yo boomer dad who has ideas sometimes I figured one of you hot shots could run with it
>>220275220The artstyle is the main charm, what are you talking about? The music and acting are great, but the whimsy you get from the animation is what makes it so good
>>220275220The movie is designed to work with the animation as-is. What it needs is an entirely new battle and eagle sequence with new sound, all AI'd to look like it belongs with the original. I think smoothing the animation is a harder route to good results. It sounds like you're talking about the art itself though, would have to disagree in that regard. It looks great. You should also check out the hi-fi hobbit which has 100+ sounds from VHS that were inexplicably removed from the DVD version.
Even Disney had dogshit animation in the 1970s, all the big animation studios had to cut back or were closed.
>>220275408AI isn't consistent and has tons of problems rendering anything to look good. It's also really expensive if you want to access anything that remotely works.
>>220276110ahhh, still not sold on the animation being anything good but to each their own I guess>>220276370hmmmm.... maybe you have a good idea too, not sure how many would go my way vs your way if put to a vote but still an interesting thing to ponder for a few minutes on a Sunday night
Reminder that it's anime.
>>220276524yikes
>>220276516I'm mostly thinking about the fact that every sound currently corresponds to its explanatory image so there are limited opportunities to improve what's on screen, because you'd always have to show roughly the same thing. Most of the improvement would end up being scenes like the spider escape and final battle which are the most disappointing, and at that point you might as well add some new length to the audio track. A full visual remaster where the original japanese animation is replaced could be good also, I admit.
>this is what an elf is supposed to looked like
>>220276795Wine doesn't affect them. . . as much as a normal person. They do drink it in huge quantities for thousands of years THOUGH
>>220276708>I'm mostly thinking about the fact that every sound currently corresponds to its explanatory image so there are limited opportunities to improve what's on screen, you're over-thinking it, there is ZERO trouble with doing this if everything stays the same EXCEPT the animation style changes
>>220275220Where there's a whipThere's a way
>>220276110There’s something demonic about the animation. It’s hard to explain, but it’s like some evil or Satanic bargain was involved in the creation.
>>220277331Yes pedro, the children's cartoon is demonic, now go get your rosary and pray to mother maria.
>>220277331well, it's VERY outdated, it screams cheap 70s style and Bilbo looks like a troll doll
>>220275519Yea, these computer whiz kids need to pull themselves up by the boot straps
