They should remake this with an unattractive, and/or non-wealthy man.
>>
>>220277606
nah, remake it with gosling, it would be an actual improvement
>>
>>220277606
Remake it with a woman and have her realize just how insecure and pathetic guys are.
>>
>>220277910
they already did a female version with queen latifa, but its no wonder why everyone forgot about it
>>
>>220277606
Why don't they make eomcoms like this anymore? Is it because people prefer to jerk off at home and die alone now?
>>
>>220278118
>queen latifa
actually, fuck that, even I am forgetting who starred it, it was another insufferable cunt either way
>>
>>220277606
>Helen Hunt
I could have sworn it was Judy Foster, but I think its common to confuse them lmao
>>
>>220278215
>Judy Foster
Who the fuck is that?
>>
>>220278243
Jodie or whatever
>>
>>220278139
They end up direct to streaming
Now that capeshit has started slipping hard they may come back
That zendaya Pattinson one was pretty good
>>

>unattractive man

That's what I said.

just miss these high-concept comedies with a supernatural gimmick. feels there was a wave of them that started with Groundhog Day then they died out around the early 2000s: Shallow Hal (kinda), The Hot Chick, Freaky Friday.

where did that whole genre go? are there any good ones from the past 20 years?

now THIS would be a great Shallow Hal type premise.

>Chud is cursed by a witch for his heckin transphobia
>sees all transgenders 'how they see themselves'

we'll laugh, we'll cry, we may even learn a thing or two. Boat Trip (2002) for the Twitter generation.

ketterboxd reviews for this movie are hilarious

any good, anon? it has middling reviews but my standards here aren't exactly high, i just want some daft fluff.

e.g. picrel. Adam Sandler was already a comedy pariah by then, but downloading this off Mininova in 2006 i had a fun time.

i'd say that's how ageing works, but i think i get what you mean. slacker young rocker Jack Black vs wizened old neckbeard Jack Black.

it's given him a nice second wind, since he plays the same character in everything. like elderly Hugh Grant, he's just fun to watch.

i liked Tenacious D and School of Rock, but this shtick got grating back in the day.
>>
>>220279870
It made me cry by the end of it and I'm sure I'm not alone. Weirdly good, but not necessarily a great comedy.
>>
>>220278243
We are not going to talk about Jodie at all.
>>
>>220280858
why not?

even the guy who stalked her (and tried to assassinated Reagan) has served his time. now he's just a nice guitar man on YouTube:

I’ve never found Mel attractive. Above average yes.
>>
>>220279650
It's just the case that much fewer comedies, that isn't primarily another genre with comedy being tagged on, gets made. And of the few actually being made, most of them are just sequels or remakes of actual comedies from the 90s and 2000s.
>>
>>220278139
>Why don't they make eomcoms like this anymore?
Someone doesn't watch Hallmark since that is practically the only thing Hallmark makes.
>>
>>220277606

No.
>>
>>220281045
probably a bit of a miscast, but it's clear what the character was intended to look and act like. maybe they even did rewrites to fit Mel Gibson's ego.

then again they could have gone over-the-top with e.g. the crossdressing and dancing, based Gibson may have reined that in. the character doesn't 'get in touch with his feminine' side, he just learns to be less of an asshole, and a better dad.
>>
>>220281861
are any of them GOOD though? like some decent writer had a story and just went in through the Hallmark feelgood-movie-of-the-week route?

I miss goofy romcoms like this
>>
>>220278139
Comedies in general died because all casual viewing type movies were replaced with mcu slop. Romance and sex in movies died out because women decided romance is something only for the top 5 percent of men and not simply part of being human. That's why you see zoomers bitching about sex scenes. Only a small fraction of the men have even kissed a girl so fictional romance brings too many painful emotions to the surface.
>>
>>220278164
Men only want one thing and it’s disgusting

Nah it’s because there’s literally no point of titillation when hyperporn is in your pocket at all times. You need to compartmentalize otherwise there’d be no point to watching anything besides porn

Colossal with annie Hathaway starts out like this but veers into new ground. More about toxic friendships.
>>
>>220284548
>More about toxic friendships.
More about how small people instantly reveal their true nature the moment they they think they won't face any consequence for their action

>>
>>220277606
Remake it with modern day mel gibson
>>
>>220279650
It seems that nowadays they don't tend to focus on the comedy aspect very much, but if you're interested in romances with a supernatural twist I can name a few:

>The Time Traveller's Wife
A man unwillingly jumping through time in his personal past keeps meeting with the same girl over and over
>In Your Eyes
Two strangers living far away from eachother develop a mental conection where they can see, hear and feel what the other is experiencing
>Spring
A man travelling to Italy meets a woman that turns out to be half monster
>The Map of Tiny Perfect Things
Two teenagers stuck in a timeloop
>Warm Bodies
A zombie falls in love with a girl and begins to change

Dream Scenario (2023)
>>
>>220277606

That plot actually makes a lot more sense.

Because women truly are narrative driven, it would be way more interesting to see an ugly guy just mindfuck a woman into falling in love with him. Just having all the right answers at exactly the right time.

I guess that's kinda the plotline in Groundhog Day where Bill Murray keeps using past tidbits he's learned to gain new ground, and eventually bang the chick.
>>
>>220279650
Freaky Friday was a remake of a movie from the 60s
>>
>>220279730
remake it with Pierce Brosnan
>>
>>220284370
comedies died because jokes need a punchline to be funny; they need someone or something to be mocked. but since 2015 society has collectively agreed we can't make fun of anything or anyone because it's "mean". we've shaved the edge off of everything so it's impossible to make any sort of direct statement anymore.
don't believe me? try and think of a joke that isn't at someone else's expense.
>>
>>220289410
When is a door not a door?
When it's ajar!
>>
>>220289433
the joke here is at the expense of the audience. you were expecting something profound, and instead were met with a pun.
>>
>>220289479
You must be real fun at parties...
>>
>>220289500
Your mother.
>>
>>220279650
No one pays to see movies like this since they are better viewed at home on Netflix. They save their theater-viewing budget for the big budget action blockbusters or horrorslop that need to be seen on the big scene to truly enjoy
>>
>>220277606
Yes, we hear you loud and clear. We will remake it with wealthy man falling in love with unattractive woman.
>>
>>220279650
what the fuck my gf is watching friends in the background and phoebe just referenced Liar, Liar as i read this post. what a coincidence.
another coincidental thing is that i am a liar because it wasn't my gf, it was my mom.
>>
>>220289682
that's a lot of layers of irony, like in inception
>>
>>220289433
Pretty good.
>>
>>220289410
Jokes don't need a punchline to be funny, absurd humour works fine without explicit punchline, for example.
The real reason is way worse: Media literacy (not the "you don't understand my message chud". but the actual one - ability to understand metaphor, hyperbole, read between the lines etc.) is long since dead. You don't need just a "punchline" for a joke to "hit", you need to repeat that punchline several times, dissect it, throw it in and out and basically spoonfeed the viewer because your viewer will be too retarded to even register a joke otherwise, unless it's some marvelslop quip which is not even funny most of the time.

In short, audience is so retarded that for a joke to register, you need to take all the humour out of it.
>>
>>220283811
this movie aesthetics should be used more often, it really has a unique charm to it
also use it with pretty women like the protag too, or else it gets degraded
>>
>>220277606
>I want to see unattractive actors in the big screen
That's the problem with modern cinema.
