Favorite female directors
>inb4 Greta gerwigLady Bird was garbage and then she immediately sold out and made soulless corporate slop
The only two I can think of off the top of my head are Kathryn Bigelow and the one who did American Psycho. And I can't remember the latters name. I really like Bigelow though. Near Dark is one of my all time favourite movies, mostly for the cast and cinematography though.
>watched Sleeping Beauty (2011)>really like it, well shot, and I connected to passively self destructive mc that "sleeping" through her life mirroring what literally happening in the movie>listen to director's interview>"yeah I had a nightmare that someone was filming me while I was sleeping, no I dont think of this character as passive"That was pretty disappointing
>>220278233I like Kelly Reichardt
>>220279354Meek's Cutoff is an excellent film. Lynne Ramsay deserves a mention also.

>>220281485yeah she's a big time director
>>220279291I haven't seen this movie, but if I remember correctly, feminist "critique" in 2011 was focused a lot more on "strong female characters", that interview was probably a response to those types. Like they would always be butthurt if a character has no "agency", even if that's the point.
Claire Denis made some good stuff, like Beau Travail, and Kelly Reichardt too.
