Tintin 2011 is one of the best adventure films ever made, I was skeptical because I generally hate that kind of animation but do yourself a favour and check it out if you haven't.

Yeah there's a suspension of disbelief that only works because of the animation. The same action pieces that fell on their cgi face in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull landed much better in it.
Also on that point I guess to OP - Dial of Destiny flopped. Uncharted did ok but didn't have the kind of effortless success Jurassic Park does.

It's a different world to 25-ish years ago. Look at a movie like Danny Boyle's The Beach (2000) where the entire conceit of the film rests on a hand-drawn map leading to a secret paradise. It is almost completely implausible in today's age with the internet and smartphones having demystified almost everything.
