House didn't solve crimes, though. It's more like Monk for patricians. You need to watch more 2000s prime time, OP.

isn't this guy dull as dishwater tho

his smugness is entertaining

I used to watch a lot of episodes while eating stroganoff.

It actually did. A read about it a few years. Jane found out who he was and he has this little stupid voice. It's the most retarded thing I've ever watched on YouTube.

>>220283527
>too episodic
that would have been great if they weren't trying to have it both ways by constantly promising a shitty plot that should have been silently dropped.

That's a good thing tho?

They found Red John so Jane kills him but it wasn't him so he convinced the jury to let him go, then he finds out who the actual Red John is and it's very anti-climactic, I don't think there were any hints at all that it was him it was just one of those "We've decided to solve this now" moments, kinda like the Monk finale except I'm pretty sure it kept going (can't remember but I feel like there was at least 1 more season).

Its a juvenile, conformist, derivative and uninspired. Long term plot elements are clearly made up as the series goes along, characterization and romance are weak and the series insists on being over the top with action scenes, when these type of series are better played off straight.

Its no better than those crusty CSI series dime in a dozen made for suburban moms. It basically exists to have the MC doing his Columbo routine and be attractive.

A series like THE CLOSER is so much better than this and that's not a high bar.

Who's Red John again?

House was at its best when he was the least intelligent person in the scene. OPs show never has that, at all. This simple truth makes OP and everyone else in this thread fag.. including me.
>>
>>220283527
>its too episodic
this is a good thing for such kinds of shows.
>>
>>220283936
What exactly makes these shows pussy magnets?
>>
>>220284069
It gets worse.
I'm going from memory so I'm probably getting details wrong but Red John was part of some murderous illuminati that the police chief is also a part of and they tattoo dots on their arm so people can easily identify them. The cult leader's a good guy though so that's nice.
>>
>>220283719
Patrick kills Red John by the middle of Season 6. Then the show makes a two years jump. He's been living in Venezuela while Lisbon is back to be a cop. He's found by the fbi and recruited. Could have ended there, but they got one more season that was unnecessary.
>>
>>220284111
>House was at its best when he was the least intelligent person in the scene.
That happened like 7 times max over the 8 seasons. I think you wanted to say when he was getting things wrong, especially about his own worldview, like in the episode where the dude shoots himself in the foot to be able to raise his kid who was about to be born.
>>
The mentalist was great but I found the whole red John story a massive drag. They just made him too much of this Hannibal Lecter mega genius to the point it was silly.

I think they should have had that season finale where “red John” confronted Jane in the mall, and Jane just shoots him. Be the true end of red John instead of him being YET ANOTHER random manipulated pawn of red John.

Just have the story end with red John underestimating Jane, then next season can deal with the fallout (e.g. he’s literally a murderer but in court he could argue he feared for his life given this was red John, more details about John get revealed during the court case, there’s some red John copy cat killings which makes some believe Jane killed a fake red John but Jane is certain the new killings are by a fake copy cat and helps catch them)

Then move on from the red John story

Also the move to the FBI I think? Felt shitty but maybe that was just it beinf so close to the end
>>
>>220282236
sell it all, today.
>>
>>220284161
The protagonists are handsome men. Ain't that hard.
>>
>>220284262
>shoots himself in the foot to be able to skip recruitment and raise his kid who was about to be born.
fixed
>>
>>220284161
Never heard of Midsomer Murders, but apart from Sherlock, Hall, Baker and Laurie are all handsome, smart and mischievous.
>>
>>220284276
>The protagonists are handsome men
Then why aren't they watching Psych instead? The dude's hair on that show looks way better than the hair of these other guys.
>>
>>220284265
There is one episode when there is another serial killer who's posing as investigator of his own cases to be close to the police and media and being able to openly and publicly talk about himself. Patrick eventually finds out the guy is the murderer they're looking for it, but he also realizes they can't arrest him. So, he sets him up to say on TV that he's much better than Red John, who until then, they all think Patrick has killed. This makes RJ mad and he kills the murderer, revealing himself being alive. It is a good plot twist because we see Patrick is very much open to get people killed, even if him himself can't do it and it can only work if RJ is in fact alive and only Patrick knows it.
>>
>>220284306
Psych guy ain't at the same level of handsomeness as the others.
>>
>>220284404
True, he's in a league of his own, far above.
>>
>>220283517
>tfw Carlton had a stroke IRL and they made it part of the 2nd film even though he had it before the 1st

>>220283527
What? It literally wraps up.

>>220284166
No, there wasn't a murderous illuminati, they were just a secret club that you joined and you got protection and help with things. You then would recruit new people who were in trouble by offering them stuff to get out of it. Red John was a part of it and rose through the ranks to be at the top, which is why he had so much pull.

The writers wanted it to end there but they got death threats from female fans saying they wanted more. So they did another season because the suits said to do it. Then that was suppose to be the last but they got more death threats wanting Jane and Lisbon to get together, so they did like six more episodes and wrapped it up at the end.
>>
>>220283719
If they'd just left it with Bradley Whitford being Red John it would have been decent. But turning that into a fakeout when the writer had no plans for who Red John was pretty unsurprisingly turned out to be a mistake. Also Psych is so much better and the writers of The Mentalist never returning any of their jabs was weak.
>>
>>220284265
I mean it ends exactly the same. The issue with shooting Red John is that Patrick says early on that he will strangle Red John to death and watch the light go out in his eyes and Lisbon goes like 'you're crazy I'll arrest you'. So you knew it wasn't Red John when Patrick just shoots him. Later on the actual Red John, Patrick shoots and then strangles to death.

The only weird bit is where Red John is going like
>Don't you know how I know the names?
>I don't care
>I'm a real....psychic....
Which was a bit odd, it was putting in a crumb for all the 'real psychics' who got upset at the show existing, by suggesting OK maybe Red John really is a true psychic. But it was also a cool scene in the sense that Jane, who would normally be interested in debunking a psychic, doesn't care enough and goes through his promise to strangle him to death.

>>220284526
Psych 'jabs' weren't really 'jabs'. They were usually quite complementary like
>I need to get home to watch The Mentalist
or
>So like the guy from The Mentalist?

Also the two shows are completely different. The main draw of Psych is the friendship of Gus and Shawn, while The Mentalist is Simon Baker's dry wit deliveries and an overarching plot. Psych is a comedy, Mentalist is a drama.

Don't forget there is also the show White Collar, which was produced around the same time (first episode even has some Mentalist actors in it) which is basically exactly the same shit. Later on there is Lie To Me, again, similar shit.

>Never heard of Midsomer Murders
Its twee English countryside tripe
>The local vicar is found murdered in his thatched Tudor home
>Chief Inspector Barnaby is called in
>We're in a right old pickle here sir his hapless Sargent mutters, it's a real who dunnit
>Barnaby sighs and make a smug comment towards the Sargent for not being nearly as clever as he is
>later at home Barnaby mentions the case to his loving wife
>oh that's terrible, she exclaims, I knew Vicar Frumsey from the village jamboree organisation committee, he and Mr Snootyton were at loggerheads as to what colour bunting would be used for the pumpkin stand this year
>Barnaby confronts Snootyton
>Snootyton gets angry and defensive, finally admitting that he was carrying on with his scullery maid at the time of the murder
>at home he is sitting down with a glass of wine half listening to his dear wife prattle on
>she says something innocuous about Lady Lumpin of Horseyhouse Manor that cracks the case wide open
>queue an awkward montage of seemingly unconnected events and phrases that paint an overly contrived murder plot
>she murdered him by poisoning the cucumber sandwiches he ate at the local fete earlier that day
>the motive, she caught his little terrier Rumsy pissing on her prize petunias
>episode ends with Barnaby sitting in a beer garden with his sargent with a nice pint of cider enjoying the evening sunshine
>>
>>220286744
Don’t forget, in Midsomer they have a giant CSI lab with all the latest technology, the most common motive for murder is blood feuds going back decades, and the police don’t carry guns because those would solve 95% of the cases early. The cops also don’t bother with following the law when it comes to getting warrants before breaking into people’s homes, and often ignore the law about providing their suspects with a solicitor/lawyer. It is comfy enough though, if you like the Cotswold aesthetic

One of my favorites. Had some bad moments though. Remember in season 2 when every episode had hypnosis? Or when the actress who played Grace got pregnant and so was always sitting down?

Just read the plot for the show and wow. Turns out the show is actually part of metadeception too.
> a fake psychic turned useful people reader
LMAO normies buy that shit and that's why they think Derren Brown and Oz Pearlman are real lol.
>>
I realize now that many of you may not be aware that mentalism is scam.
Do you guys actually believe in mentalism? Like the ability to read microexpressions and subtle facial cues to read what's on other people's minds. Do you think that's a thing?

Bruh, you're not impressing anyone. This shit is blatantly fake and illusionism tier to anyone past elementary school.
>>
>>220288604
Go to youtube section of any Oz Pearlman or Derren Brown video. They all genuinely think it's real.
Or just look at the recent discussion about Oz Pearlman Joe Rogan PIN code trick, on X on 4chan, they all think it's real and that Oz is a mossad agent meant to intimidate Joe.
I think you seriously underestimate how many people buy into the metadeception.

A charming high functioning sociopath helping the police solve crime.
Good background television but I won't pay close attention to it. I don't even remember how it ended.
>>
>>220283517
Pretty much. I've always considered it a mildly more serious & worse Psych. Which means it's in a good spot since Psych is the greatest show of all time.
Though the Red John resolution was a complete shitshow. Makes me think of the Scary Movie retard cop bad guy slicking back his hair and driving off
