>>220291584I was re-reading the MST3K book recently, and I can’t remember if it was Mike or Kevin who said it, but evidently their goal was to maintain the appearance of a “slightly-above-average public access show”.
>>220291584I lot of these rebooted shitshows could’ve been salvaged simply by using old cameras and shooting in 4:3. It would at least trick a non-zero quantity of people into buying into it. And it’s more suited for adaptation to peoples TikTok and Instagram feeds anyways so they have that going for them. Studios are seemingly immune to trying something newDocumentary Now! is the only series I’ve seen that’s done it and almost every single episode is kino.
>>220291789I find Rifftrax compelling because it's really Mike searching for a way to keep doing the same thing, with even less money. That first year it was basically just him with a microphone trying to figure out e-commerce, and he pulled in enough goodwill from old cable fans that he was able to hire Bill and Kevin
>>220289818I was done with it the moment they did the reveal that Servo was going to be played by a black guy, and he exclaimed triumphantly “I’M GONNA HAVE SOUL NOW!”, a huge knock on Kevin Murphy. Then, the show came out, and was basically “Noah’s Arcade Presents: Mystery Science Theater 3000”. Horribly overproduced, with distracting celebrity guest appearances, Patton and Felicia are awful as the nu-Mads (it’s kind of funny that Pearl goes as far as cloning herself to avoid hanging out with them), the bots are interchangeable and devoid of personality, nu-Gypsy is just “woman, but robot” now, and while girl Crow’s operator is cute as hell, I hate how girl Crow sounds like a muppet. The four episodes that I actually like are Cry Wilderness, Avalanche, Mac and Me, an Munchie, and most of that are the movies themselves doing the heavy lifting. I did also like that skit where Jonah gets so freaked out by Munchie that when Kinga tells him to get back in the theater he straight up tells her no, so she pinches off the SoL’s air hose, and the Bots continue telling Kinga to go fuck herself while either oblivious or not caring that Jonah is suffocating.

>>220290943I got this email the other day. The idea was 10-15 years too late to be viable anyway. The show was widely available on YouTube even well before Shout Factory bought the rights from Mallon and started official streams.
One thing I didn't like about the new seasons was they completely misinterpreted "It's just a show, I should really just relax," intended to be about nitpicky shit, and used it to just do whatever without explaining. While it didn't happen too often, MST3K NEVER shied away from lore episodes and explaining how and why things were changing. Imagine if Joel left and Mike took over, or the SoL ended up in the ape future, with no explanation. Joel said it would be addressed whether the Bots were the originals or new versions created by Kinga and it never was. Also, I liked Growler and Waverly and Season 12 did surprisingly little with them. They were never involved in skits or anything until like the final episode. I haven't watched all the Season 13 episodes yet, but apparently they start working for the Mads? I don't like that. I wanted to see them having hijinks with Crow and Servo. Why not make up new Mad Bots if they wanted the Mads to have their own Bots?
>>220289952When was this confirmed? Not saying you’re wrong, this is just the first I’ve heard about it, outside a lot of wishful thinking.
>>220294357>Joel said it would be addressed whether the Bots were the originals or new versions created by Kinga and it never was.My headcanon is that Rifftrax is Mike and the Bots’ enterprise to make a living, because it’s all they know, and “Kevin” and “Bill” are just aliases for Tom and Crow.

>>220291953Most of the assertions here are all wrong.
Love MST3K, but not all eps were winners. I'm a fan of films that made sense and didn't have tons of narration or super long extended scenes to fill time (there was a movie about dinosaurs on an island and Joel and the bots kept saying "more climbing and walking" over and over).

One episode I absolutely love that I never see anyone talk about is Gunslinger. I don't usually tend to like when MST3K strays from monster/horror/sci-fi movies, but Gunslinger is an absolutely 10/10 episode. The movie is just the right type of bad to be funny on its own AND consistently provide great material for Joel and the Bots, everyone is firing on all cylinders, the riffs are hilarious-->Everything involving the saloon dancers and Caine Muro's hotel room/hallway.>Sheriff Rose sees someone running for their horse and shoots them. Crow: "Well, I'm pretty sure he was a bad guy.">Caine Muro: "Look. You can see the Big Dipper." Joel: "Hey, it's day time." Crow: "He's not talking about the stars...">Movie character: "The good die young." Servo: "Most of us are morally ambiguous, which explains our random dying patterns.">Little Man: "DON'T CALL ME THAT! Erica called me 'Little Man!' I DON'T LIKE IT!" Crow: "Ooh. Touched a nerve.">Joel: "This movie is just sitting on my head and crushing it.">Sheriff Rose: "Caine? Is it a two-way thing?" Caine Muro: "It's a two way thing." He shoots her. Servo: "Oh. Guess it's kind of one-way now."--and even the skits are all memorable and top tier (balloon-headed Servo, coffins/funerals/death, quantum linear super positions, etc) on a level even a lot of iconic episodes' aren't. It deserves more recognition.
>>220292189>his wife is still a piece She sure is. Mike hit the jackpot with Bridget. She gave him 2 sons, a solid decades-long marriage, and she's funny as hell in her own right. 10/10 they don't make women like that anymore and rarely did to begin with.

>>220323335Oh wow, I never caught that either. Almost blows my mind as much as finding out the other day that Ivan Ooze from the Power Rangers movie was played by the same guy who played Belloq in Raiders of the Lost Arc.
I'm quite fond of the Starfighters because it has the Cowboy Mike's RICOCHET *ricochet sfx* BBQ sauce
Watching this now

I forget which one this is but it's one of my favorites. The characters in movie blow up the monster with a bomb and it cuts to WWII era stock footage of weapons testing on targets with Hitler/ Tojo faces>Oh no! They blew up the Hitler building!

Best Nguyen, Julie and Jack or Replica? Julie and Jack was the only time I’ve been legitimately shocked by a plot twist. But Replica has the car crash scene and awkward stalking scenes.
I JERKED HIM
>>220325182Invasion of the Neptune Men, it’s a Japanese movie that used a lot of stock footage of explosions, including WWII stuff

>>220284377I miss the days when people on 4chan would stream these episodes 24/7 on its own dedicated website. The internet was better 10 years ago, I don't care.
>>220326216>nostalgia for 2016Damn grim.
>>220324933This propaganda movie rules.
>>220287959>Sam the Keeper (“I just found out Count Dracula was a faggot!”) He also starred in the black hole sun music video. Same glasses and everything.
>>220322160>Avoid 11Hey now, Cry Wilderness and Avalanche are good episodes. I remember Yongary and Mac & Me being good too, but I'd have to rewatch and refresh my memory of them.

>>220326216You mean cytube? It's still going, you just need to get the gang back together.
How do they eat and breathe in space?
Saturday morning, whole family gathered 'round the tv to watch MTS3K. Good times.
Has anyone here seen the MST3K vs. Gamera: Round II fan episodes? They're pretty fun and impressive (even including old '90s commercials during the commercial breaks) and they recapture the charm of classic MST far better than the Netflix seasons (which obviously goes without saying, but still).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayze2ujb5Vk
>>220321870>zommy gets triggered by black and whiteGood, you don't deserve to watch MST3K.

>>220284377Rifftrax >>> MST3KIf you're gonna make jokes over a bad movie, make jokes over a bad movie. You don't need to add a gay ass framing device and bad skits and silhouettes of bad-on-purpose muppet characters. Also Joel fucking sucks.>>220321870Another reason why Rifftrax is better than MST3K since it doesn't have to stay so strict to SciFi
>>220332615Get a load of this guy, gang. He's too cool for puppets! He prefers his bad movie riffing be done like serious adults!
Are you hyped?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjJuwp8VpWs
>>220285090This is such a weird movie, the reason the tone is all over the place is it was written and filmed as a horror comedy, but then the studio wanted it changed to just a straight horror, so they cut a lot of scenes, added more in, etc, but you still have some of the comedic bits in there, like the fat nurse running through 10 panes of glass, and the old couple stealing lemons, and the end where the janitor just sweeps the monster up into a garbage bin.
>>220334439Is it sad that this one 2-minute-long promo made me feel happier, more nostalgic, and more MST3K-y than all three seasons of Joel's revival? It's sad, right?
>May father! I found my father! Oh my God!
>>220309846I love the audio tracks for big-budget movies>The X-Men trilogy>The Harry Potter series>The Star Wars prequels (they did all 11 them but those are the best)>The Matrix trilogy (you should pirate this one because they went back and removed some of the best jokes because they're "too offensive" now)>TwilightPlus the ones with guests are often great too>Ocean's Eleven with Richard Cheese>Jurassic Park with Weird Al>Willy Wonka with Neil Patrick Harris
