Also the film changes the ending (in the book the pornographer gets away with his role in the murder and the evil sister gets sent to the insane asylum to appease the sister who's husband she kills rather than risk a public scandal via a murder trial; the movie has the pornographer killed and blamed for the murderer by Bogart to clear the "good name" of the evil sister, though it's strongly implied that Bogart sold out his morals and ethics and let a murderer walk free to be able to fuck her sister, who in the film completely forgets about her husband upon meeting Bogart)
