My pitch would be a standalone movie similar to Rogue One, that focuses on Darth Vader, as he's the only iconic character that hasn't been ruined. Vaguely explain 'timeline divergence' to erase everything since Episode 7 WITHOUT getting bogged down into the weeds of time travel or multiverse or any of that kind of bullshit (make it vague and subtle, something involving the Force and possible futures). Then just make the rest of the movie really good, and most importantly, have Vader be an absolute BAD. ASS. Like his scene at the end of Rogue One, but most of the movie he's like that. It'll get people hype and could rekindle the flame.
Extremely difficult to pull off, and there's almost zero chance they would even try.... but it IS possible.

Basically some official Star Wars merchandise for the May the 4th marketing had stuff for Episodes I to VI but not the sequels. So some click bait sites made the comment that they aren't focusing on it. The merchandise hasn't been big on the sequels for a while because it doesn't sell well.

Currently their plans are:

This won't help anything if they don't fix the root cause of the problem, which they won't because they don't even understand that there is a problem. They think audiences just didn't take to the sequels "for some reason" and that's all there is to it. So what will happen is they remove these sequels from canon, but the same untalented fanfic writers from AO3 who want to use Star Wars as a vehicle to hate chuds and project political messaging will still be there, they'll still produce really awful content, and they'll be back in the same hole again five years later looking at another retcon. There is another way, but its a big risk. It would require Disney to do a major shift in trajectory and bring on some acclaimed directors to save them from themselves by following up on their one unambiguous recent success.

You do a disney+ series that follows up Andor S2 with going into the events of Rogue One, either bringing back actors or reshooting scenes. You take the 2 hour movie and you make it, say, a 6 or 8 hour series that gives the characters more time to develop and breathe and be real characters rather than thinly drawn archetypes. And you make it, you know, good.

So now you have taken a movie and remade it as a series. Andor was popular and the best Star Wars media in recent memory, it leads directly into Rogue One, and Rogue One wasn't a particularly good film. So the odds of you pissing off diehard Rogue One fans is pretty low. It flows naturally and without much resistance.

If it works and is a successful show, then you do the hard part. The dangerous part.

You bring in a new cast of actors and, hot on the tail of Rogue One the Series, you remake A New Hope as a series as well. Creating a single, unbroken chain starting with Andor and moving forward with a prestige miniseries version of the Original Trilogy.

Critics at the time also said Hayden Christiansen gave terrible performances but I actually think he was very good. There are a lot of advantages to doing this, despite the risks of nerd outcry. The simple fact of the matter is that the original trilogy, while beloved, is quite old now. We have reached the end of the shelf life for actor callbacks, they've had their last hurrah. So we are already at the point of either retiring those characters to never be used again (which we know isn't going to happen, Star Wars is too nostalgia heavy now) or recasting them anyway. Or doing gross AI revenent shit to bring back actors from beyond the grave.
So this is actually a good time to establish a new cast of characters to represent Luke, Leia, Han, and so on

Investing in a high budget series adaptation of the original trilogy buys Disney a lot of time (it will take them years to exhaust the potential of this simple concept) and since it is a longer runtime adaptation they have the opportunity to weave in new shit or expand on the story/setting along the way so its not a 1:1 translation. Star Wars lore has added in and expounded open all kinds of shit, taking bit characters from the original movies and weaving them intricate backstories and adventures of their own. You can pick and choose the best of this expanded lore to now weave into the story and make it part of real events. Give us some scenes of the galactic senate reacting and responding to the fact that the Empire just blew up a freaking planet. Like, how did the Empire announce to people that the Death Star exists? At some point in A New Hope, it stopped being a secret and it would be interesting to see what that looks like. How they played that.

But the end goal, at the end of all of this, is that by the time you close the book on the retelling of content from the Last Jedi, you've firmly established this new Star Wars canon. Essentially a new timeline. And that means that you can 'continue' it, with a new set of sequels, that gives you free reign to completely fucking rewrite everything that happens in TFA onward.
