The hardcore gore, weird visual style of the first one and the 18 rating probably turn a lot of people off. The market for actually horrifying horror movies is now vanishingly small. You have to ask yourself who would go to watch this - honestly? A handful of ageing 30+ horror enthusiasts old enough to remember the original movies?'Horror' to most people now means PG-13 teen jumpscareslop. And Netflix is just a babysitting service for bored parents where companies dump their bland focus-group tested nonsense. To be honest I'm surprised it found as many viewers as it did, 2.7 million isn't terrible. The simple fact is that, for better or worse, these kinds of movies don't have their place in the mainstream anymore. But they're still getting made with mainstream budgets.
