The real problem with Troy is that it actually deviated and changed the story. Removed characters, made others have different relations. And while you can excuse some of that as removing fluff (Briseis), other things were outrageous: Menelaus is killed in battle by Hector after his 1v1 with Paris. I have a strong feeling that Nolan's Odyssey won't actually change the beats of the story. He's merely making a spectacle of some of the more fantastical elements, but the actual story won't change. Whereas Troy changed the story completely while keeping more true to the colors of the era. I can appreciate both styles.
