I watched this whole show during lockdowns in covid and absolutely loved it, and I remember almost nothing about it now except annoying ghetto guerilla terrorists, the Asian chick getting therapy from her orgy, and one of the main characters unceremoniously dying because the actor got cancelled. I don't recommend the show.
>>
its not that bad of a show. not sure why /tv/'s shitting on this
>>
I tried to watch it after the overwhelming praise it gets, but dropped it into the second season. It is not great, I would argue it doesn’t even reach good most episodes. It is a serviceable product of its time, and people like space operas, so it filled that niche for a lot of people. There are worse shows for sure, but don’t expect anything actually remarkable.

Stargate Universe is GOAT tier. It has the highest production quality of any sci fi show ever up to that time.

It just got shat on at the time because it wasn't full of memes like SG1. No offense to SG1 of course because its good. But every knows deep down that if SG1 came out today it would absolutely be called reddit.

Low budgets but AWESOME scripts.

However, it's "hard" sci-fi. In other words, the writers took how humans have historically behaved and the technology we have right now and extrapolates a future based on that. If you like the sound of that, you'll love the show. If you want your sci-fi to be more "weird" and "whimsical" and "fantastical", you won't like it. Star Wars and Star Trek and Dune are all examples of "fantasy" sci-fi - no matter what the fans of any of those IP will insist. Especially the Trekkies.

I love all of The Expanse and the books. I love it more than Star Trek. I love that it actually has a long running story that slowly unfolds over the seasons to reveal more and more. The politics and chaotic wars make sense. Some of the side characters and minor conflicts are dumb, but I can excuse that. I love the ships and their efforts to show realistic physics and future spaceship battles. I just wish they'd had tossed more money at it so there could be even more battles and suit combat. Plus finish the last three seasons
>>
this motherfucker stole every scene he was in and when he died i was very upset and the show started to suck. imagine my surprise when he comes back and the show is good again only for them to fucking kill him off AGAIN
>>
>big write up
>accidentally refreshed the page

FUCK.

Not writing that again:
Show is ok (s1-2, maybe some 3 are best) but books are much better. Been rewatching after reading the books and have to keep the remote in my hand to skip all the filler plotlines.
>>
>>220327679

Do this >>220327861
>>
>>220327807
Also funnily enough the filler plotlines are the same ones everyone complained about in the watch threads while it was airing.
Why do showrunners always have to shoehorn in their own take on things which even the show-only fans end up hating.
>>
>>220321729
The best thing the showrunners did was stopping before it turned into complete shit.
>>
>>220327807
I like the scenes in the books, but many of the show characters are better. Drummer and Ashford are way better. Amos and Peaches were great. Avasarala nailed her character

Anons were right to hate it. Most of her scenes never happened in the book and didn't fit the narrative or her character. Even the scenes which did happen were played as though she was someone else. Book Naomi would pity and think little of on-screen Naomi

Avasarala was perfect. Amos too even without being bald he's the perfect representation. Peaches was good too, she only had a few minor things they cut/altered which I imagine was for some budget or filming reason.
Ashford and Drummer are effectively original characters with how different they were. Losing the real Bull for them is sad but yes they were good. I hated the added free navy scenes though and they were pretty tied into that which makes me end up skipping a lot of their scenes.

>He got cancelled, but turned out to be complete bullshit. Just another victim to the fucking environment at the time.
Idk man. Apparently he had over 40 women come forward. Normally I would dismiss it and say it was just a few fans who slept with him, regretted, and are accusing him for clout, but over 40 women that's something's fucky going on
>>
>>220333625
Were you in a coma when it happened? Believe All Women meant anytime there was an allegation against a man, unlimited numbers of women could get some free attention by claiming they too were somehow victimized. Absolutely no proof required and anyone questioning the validity of their claims risked being cancelled. The most surprising thing is that it was only 40 women who cashed in on the moment.
>>

Prime picked it up after S3 and those seasons are alright.

realism space combat
big mystery goo hook
1st season is the best and its downhill from there

ps
theres an entire season where they sit in a cave slowly dying to slugs
>>
>>220337392
Literally none of those are cliffhangers. They're all related to slowly unraveling the mysterious builder technology, finding out how it works, finding out what happened to the builders, and using the builder tech for the human's benefit. You barely even paid attention. You just want instant answers to everything then complain there are no good mysteries
