I felt so anxious and tense through every single episode of this, it’s like a pure cortisol dump from start to finish. Why are normies so obsessed with it?

This show is about a dropout junkie that fails at running a restaurant. It was funny watching his girlfriend cheat on him with a ripped black man in the last season

it glorifies millennial hustle culture

You might need to seek mental help

Why would this show make your anxious? I cant think of any scenes that come close to anxiety-inducing.

God forbid a piece of art make you feel something.

have you not seen the newest episode? are you void of emotion?

It's actually less anxiety inducing than a real busy restaurant. In this show they are constantly constructing convoluted reasons for drama or just having one really hectic night. In reality, every night is like that and there's nothing special that goes wrong. It's just like that normally. It's fucking insane.
Also the head chef is not believable. He's pretty calm other than when he blows up. You should feel it simmering barely under the surface at all times.

that's just s1 to get you hooked. after that it's all about smuggling in white guilt for no reason and pretending the show is about anyone other than the main character.
>>
>>220323378
It's a show for women like all modern tv shows

Truth. Worked in restaurants for ten or so years, this show makes me roll my eyes.

Only the first season is good. The second has good parts but starts the decline in quality with a narrative shift towards building a super fancy michelin star joint in the middle of an area of Chicago where last season we had drive by shootings and drug deals. And also the whole manic pixie dream girl disaster of a character Claire who continues to haunt the show with her being a total schrodinger's cat of a character. And the forced comedy bullshit characters like the Faks.

By the time you get to the third season its just pure self-indulgent nonsense where every episode is a therapy session. The whole appeal of the show from the beginning was "world's best chef tries desperately to fix up a complete dump of a sandwich shop". It was basically Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares or whatever but more dramatic and personal. But the showrunners took the wrong lessons from Carmy as a character and applied that to the rest of the show. They were also desperate to maintain the show as a contender for a comedy winner at The Emmys so they force "comedic" scenes with the Faks and characters just saying "FUCK YOU" to each other so they can be considered for awards.

Not every kitchen is shit. My last exec chef was a good leader and I follow his example to this day. Gordon Ramsey poisoned 2 generations of kitchen staff. The nice ones are alcoholics, the pricks are on coke.

shows aren't made to generate a profit from revenue, but the result of a consensus of agendas, consisting of social and political goals, and business portfolios
there could be a restaurant trade association, or downtown revitalization project that was influential in the development of this series. perhaps this is a cost-effective way to promote, or market-research a series of reality-tv restaurant shows in the future.
decisions about the making of shows or movies are sometimes made by parties for whom that show or network is only a small part of their portfolio, a component of a larger system. similar to how a companies that aren't nintendo might sell video game consoles at a loss because there's some strategy behind it

I'm just happy Britta is still getting work.

Just watch Boiling Point instead. The Bear leans way too hard into the whole "Kitchen staff are like family!" angle. Sure you might get along well with other staff but the reality is that chefs that try and parrot that nonsense are often times more abusive than the ones who simply tell people to shut the fuck up and get the work done.

That's why it pisses me off when they make an entire episode about, like, a wedding, and how wholesome it is, and suddenly you have all these random ass characters that have fuck-all to do with the resturant, why the hell are you even inviting your coworkers to your wedding anyway?

For the record, I don't mind the occasional wholesome moment. Like that scene of Carmy with that older mentor, or Carmy confronting Marcus about his fuckup on the dessert station. But those scenes work because it doesn't feel like the writers are trying too hard to win an emmy
