"Mean Guns" is one of the most alltime unappreciated masterpieces of western cinema.Even though people routinely put this film down as being "one of the worst of all time," it is in fact 1 of the greatest masterpieces. It is easily the singular greatest cinematic achievement of the 1990s.Its poor reputation is made even worse by the fact that its usually streaming everywhere but the aspect ratio is bonkers in the version most streaming services have. You have to watch the original widescreen version and its an incredible film and one of those things where every frame and every shot is just viscerally beautiful
Also, RedLetterMedia did an entire BotW on Albert Pyun and did not even mention this film, despite many fans supposedly sending them millions of copies of this thing
>>220325296It's complete utter dogshit but I was obsessed with this movie when I was like 16, probably due to autism
>>220325430Well 16yrold you sounds cooler than the present you
Never saw it, but the just saw The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean for the first time and it was pretty bad but also really good. Tonally it was all over the place and it was incredibly stupid at times. The Stacey Keach scene was amazing though
>>220325455It was specifically the zoom in scenes on Lamberts retarded mug that captivated me, he was absolutely horrific in the role as in most of his work but those close up shots of his face had me spun no homo
>>220325296I've seen this turd and it's rightfully considered a turdAlbert Pyun movies are very hit and missThis one's an abortion
You people saying its bad are nuts...
huh i actually liked some of pyun's work did not know about this onethanks op
>>220325296>>220327037I adore this movie, and a lot of Pyun's work. I have an appreciation for movies that actually deliver on their premise, even if they're a bit shoddy or low budget.Mean Guns promises you that a bunch of flamboyant murderous weirdos with gimmicks like pro wrestlers or video game characters are going to fight to the death, and then they do. The only movie I can think of that's quite like it is Smokin' Aces - I do not count The Hunger Games of Battle Royale since the whole point of those is how normal most of the people forced to fight were. Also holy fuck I would never call Ice-T a good actor, but he is a phenomenally watchable actor. A movie I think of as a companion piece to this is Surviving The Game, which is "Gary Busey and Rutger Hauer hunt Ice-T for sport" and is another movie that delivers exactly what it promises with very little budget, and delivers art such as a fight scene where Gary Busey is on fire, the entire time
>>220327308How anyone can hate a film which opens with your villain just capping a dude cuz he beat him in chess is beyond me.>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZKV0TQ_Rss
>>220328289Anyone who wants to see the film, you can watch that version, which is not bad, or this version which has the proper aspect ratio and is widescreen, but I dunno I'm afraid the audio is just mildly, mildly out of sync. Whatever. This is definitely the best looking version and maybe I'm just imaging the problem with the audio.>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6qRK5Ff3UcToo bad critics eviscerated this film and none of them ever ended up appreciating it. To the point where now its difficult to even find a proper version of it.
>>220328554>>220328289Wow. I'm watching it right now. The audio absolutely is not synced right so youre probably better off with >>220328289 even though its somewhat-less-cinematic looking. I mean it still looks pretty good. And its not nearly as bad as some of the versions out there on streaming services and whatnot.
People who dis this movie truly are fucking nuts. I'm watching the 1st version of it I posted above right now. Its just amazing. You cant even say "well, its just a bunch of dumb violence" (even though theres tons of that) because the whole thing is underlied by an allegory about crime and purgatory and it maintains its own artistic integrity right up until the end of the film with the fucking inexplicable suicide pact between the 3 main leads, which makes perfect sense if you really think about what they just spend their day doing.People are nuts. They just cant appreciate greatness. They just wanna watch some brokeback mountain or marvel shit, or something else shitty like "12yrs a slave". Every movie which is shitty develops the worlds biggest followings, but whenever movies are truly great, theyre vehemently opposed
Also how many movies have a soundtrack which vacillates back and forth between punchy mambo music and then dark moody synths.People have shitty tastes in movies. Go watch some shitty "Oscar Winnerâ„¢". Literally the worst movies ever, thats what those are. But people shit on Mean Guns becuz...becuz...becuz...becuz why? Becuz they are gay. Thats why. Lately homosexuality. It manifests in poor film tastes. Thats the only reason why.
>>220329813>Lately homosexuality.latent* homosexuality, I mean. Whatever. I dont care what you think of me. Because you people who hate Mean Guns do have latent homosexuality.
>>220329697It's been awhile since I watched the film but I didn't understand why they they all offed each other.
>"Noooo! U cant make a high concept art movie with tons of violence about a bunch of killers put in a prison called "purgatory" to murder eachother over the course of a day! Becuz thats just bad!"No. Its not. Its literally a novel and wonderful concept which was executed almost flawlessly. The problem is with you. Everything about you is bad. Go watch fucking Alien:Earth. Faggot.96% Rotten Tomatoes score for Alien:Earth. Go watch that gay shit. It will make you even lamer.
>>220329912There's a theme through the whole film where they're all cracking up and losing it. Developing feelz. Developing remorse.
Know what else is cool about Mean Guns? Mean Guns is the movie that John Woo SHOULD have made when he came to America, instead of shitty Face/Off or WindTalkers or whatever other gayness. Watch Mean Guns if you wanna see what a nonshitty John Woo movie from America would have been like if Hollywood didnt neuter him. It was even made by an asian, too. It has hongkong DNA.
If you took everything COOL about John Woo movies and put them in a movie. Then took every thing which FUCKING SUCKS about SHITTY QUENTIN TARRANTINO MOVIES and made sure none of that was in your movie......then you would have Mean Guns.Perfect movie. Mean Guns > Hard Boiled > Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs (becuz Quentin Tarrantino MOVIE FUCKING suck)
these are the people who give bad reviews to Mean Guns. Bastards. Inhuman.
This looks great. Watching now. How is his other movies? Specifically Omega Doom, radioactive dreams, road to hell, alien from LA, the sword and the sorcerer.
>>220330510>radioactive dreamsIt was decent>the sword and the sorcererIt was really goodHaven't seen the rest I don't think, but Pyun's Magnum Opus is indisputably Nemesis (1992), just don't watch the shitty sequels
>>220330510I like Alien From LA. They're all hyper low budget movies. I used to watch Omega Doom on USA or TNT back in the 90s when I was a kid. I went to look for it today before I put Mean Guns on but couldnt find it anywhere. No streaming, no youtube. I dont remember that film as being a masterpiece, but it was one I watched all of the time when I was like...idk 10yrs old or something. Nemesis, Cyborg and Sword and the Sorcerer I believe were his biggest movies. Radioactive Dreams is where the Fallout videogame series originated from...basically. Inspirationally.
I just finished watching. What a masterpiece. As far as which version posted above to watch, this version >>220328289 actually was quite good and is worth having the slightly-lower aspect ratio instead of the poorly-synced audio. Esp in this film whenever the gunshots fire in the official youtube version. You can tell its timings off.
Maybe one day people will finally release a properly version of this film in its original widescreen format + audio that actually matches the lips when people are talking.
>>220328289First full length film I've watched in awhile, forget hwo much I liked it. Only thing I wish they'd done more with is blood effects. For all the desert eagles and 12 gauges being used there is almost no blood anywhere.
