I just finished watching The Man From Earth and its sequel. What did I think of them?
>its sequelwhat
>>220325983It's woke interracial propaganda
>>220326057ive had it downloaded forever and never watched it. the first is based as fuck.
>>220326057The Man From Earth: Holocene. Came out in 2017. The tone is very different from the first movie, but it's still a good movie in its own right.
>>220325983Why do these movies depict Christians in such a negative light?
>>220327446MAYBE because christianity is a international jewish psyop that subverts christ's actual teachings
>>220327446Don't worry Jews and Muslims are next.
>>220327446Because religion is fake and gay
>>220327446So you'll feel persecuted and can cry about it to fullfil the christcuck dream.
>>220327446christians have depicted themselves in a negative light since forever.the only reason people are christian is because it was either that or death and then thousands of years of forced brainwashing from a young age.
>>220327446obviously so anons on 4ch can hear you whine about it.
>>220328128>MAYBE because christianity is a international jewish psyop that subverts christ's actual teachingsWhat were Christ's actual teachings?Where can I find them?
>>220327446they don't
>>220326057in the sequel, the titutal The Man, Jesus, goes to college. Shenaningans ensue!
>>220332011there's a reason the church split when people learned to read the bible
>>220332500And protestants became even worse than catholics.
>>220332500>there's a reason the church split when people learned to read the bibleFill me in. Are there any good denominations, or should they all be ignored, I should just read the Bible on my own?
>>220332561Words themselves are not whole reality, but they're a description of reality. In order to understand religious writing, you first need to accept that there's an intended meaning to be learned that relates to humanity and the real world. Even the wildest myths like Noah's Ark have a real purpose and place in the history of the writers. Despite this beautiful harmony, tension repeatedly arises between institutions, the keepers of the word, and divine reality which is always a little different from its descriptors. Jesus Christ is the most prototypical example of this conflict: perpetually in conflict with religious authorities, he declared that his role was to fulfill the divine law that they had lost in their debates and long prayers. 1500 years later, the church built on Jesus's revolution had itself become an ancient institution, when literacy rates spiked in Europe and people read the bible for themselves. That gave new impetus to the desire for simple worship of the real God, as opposed to catholic panoply.
>>220332769>In order to understand religious writing, you first need to accept that there's an intended meaning to be learned that relates to humanity and the real world.Okay. I accept that. Now what? I'm not sure I'm smart enough to understand it, still, and when I read it I become skeptical of it, and lean into an atheistic attitude, but I believe in God enough to be afraid of losing my soul, so I'm actually afraid to read the Bible.
>>220332807Just read the gospels in order and you should get it by mid-Mark at the latest
>>220332836Does the translation matter?I have a JW book a friend gave me a few years ago.
>>220332882JW is good assuming it's more than 10 years old. They put a good amount of effort into their bible scholarship and they definitely have the right attitude as far as God being an everyday reality. Probably not a good idea to join up though
>>220332934>JW is good assuming it's more than 10 years old. They put a good amount of effort into their bible scholarship and they definitely have the right attitude as far as God being an everyday reality. Probably not a good idea to join up thoughWhy not? Also, I have a Gideon's New Testament from a decade ago. Is that good?
>>220325983its cool that david bowie made a movie but it honestly sucked. you never saw a sequel, child
>>220325983It is my favourite prequel to WH40K universe
>>220325983My God, what a cuttie, is she legal??
>>220332958JW is ultimately an evangelical faith. If you're not interested in teaching the word to others, you'll just be a remedial learner unnecessarily burdened by tithes and rules, like "no blood transfusions or organ transplant"
>>220333092Is the Gideon's New Testament good?
>>220333145I dunno. Reddit would have you covered with that one
>>220333325Why? I thought Reddit was atheist. Are they pro-Gideon?
>>220333372I was referring to the website not the meme.
>>220333400Do you have any advice, besides reading through the Gospels, to keep myself on the right path?
>>220333450try to bring thoughts about self down to 80% from 95%. Part of the point of God is to remind you that you are mogged
>>220333500
>>220333664I like the comparison, seems like the best translation is multiple translations
>>220333500should I read any books or watch any podcasts and/or youtubers explaining the Bible?I remember this showing up in my homepage a few months ago.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM0XMlegyusMatthew 17:21 is missing from many bibles. I just checked and it's not there in the JW, but in the Gideon. I don't know if you would know anything about that or how important it is?
>>220333690JW are probably right about that. It looks like a later addition on first glance, that kind of thing is the result of more advanced biblical scholarship. There are probably some great lecturers but movies are the true christian art form, like "the holy moment" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZamwWFBpy8and books of course
>>220333742>movies are the true christian art formI'm hoping this isn't a troll.I know I'm a bit all over the place. I've spent the past 15 years being an atheist, and now that I'm rethinking that I still have some anxieties I'm trying to put to rest as I take this seriously.Another thing that bothers me is that the Bible has exactly 66 books in it. Does that mean it's been tainted by the devil or is 66 somehow based and much better than 666? or is the Old Testament irrelevant or something?
>>220333689>I like the comparison, seems like the best translation is multiple translationsWhy do you say that? And I hope you noticed the verse 21 was just a --- on the JW book. they included a space for a verse but didn't put the verse there.
>>220333742>It looks like a later addition on first glance, that kind of thing is the result of more advanced biblical scholarship. What exactly do you mean by that? The hyphen itself is a later addition, or the JW is more up to date edition?
>>220333828Music is too primal and revolutionary to be the true Christian art form, although it served admirably in centuries past. Painting and sculpture likewise have a fraught relationship with christianity. Architecture rarely rises to the level of high art. Books and later movies are christian because Christ is civilization. The christian revolution made everyone's soul his own responsibility, no more karma. No more absentee gods. With that transfer of moral responsibility came the acceptance of a higher moral standard, similar to the adoption of human rights or rationality. It's actually a brotherhood of all good and noble people in the world, not to say outsiders are bad, but all good people are accepted and his ethos has rightly taken over the world. Atheists are just another group searching for truth, it's normal to be atheist as part of a religious journey. True atheists who don't care about God aren't out questioning him, they just do what they're told.
>>220333864The verse is redundant and sounds like a later addition to emphasize works over faith. That would be a major blemish on the text in the midst of several classics, it doesn't really fit.
>>220334057>Music is too primal and revolutionary to be the true Christian art form, although it served admirably in centuries past. >Painting and sculpture likewise have a fraught relationship with christianityPlease elaborate
i watched the first one because someone suggested it in a "one room movie" threadi liked it
>>220334189I liked it to.I just watched 10 Cloverfield Lane.
>>220325983You're thinking the black dude from Candyman was based.
>>220334128>The verse is redundant and sounds like a later addition to emphasize works over faith. That would be a major blemish on the text in the midst of several classics, it doesn't really fit.So the JW's were basically like >we know other people believe a verse goes here, so we'll put the number, but our research into the Septuagint or whichever, lacks this verse, so we're gonna leave it empty, but keep the hyphen so you know it's not forgotten or a mistake.
>>22033421510 cloverfield lane is the only cloverfield i've seen, it's great
>>220334257my dad tried to show me a shakey camrip bootleg of the original Cloverfield back when we still had a box TV in the basement. You might guess he was havin' a laugh, but I think he did it unironically.
>>220334153music is sensuous and always able to break rules relatively easily. It can speak pagan and magical language carried secretly within memories. Music serves God amazingly well but it doesn't belong to God alone. By the same token, the heyday of sculpture was pagan and the great painters are often described as working within the confines of Christianity. No doubt the same visual sublime is possible in paintings (or photography) as in film, but in both as in sculpture there's a vital energy bursting from them, a yearning to be physical and real, that acts at cross purposes to the contemplation of the divine. Film, or a good book, can transport you in a way that only the most skillful music or painting could achieve. In particular the book doesn't work without your deliberate commitment, like the Christ.
>>220334256yeah that's the reason for the hyphen
>>220334256well, it fucking ruins a great passage. Jesus just said FAITH can move mountains, the ancient church felt so threatened they put in the complete opposite verse saying you need to pray and fast.
>>220325983>I just finished watching The Man From EarthAbsolutely loathed this trash.
>>220325983You thought "man, I sure do wish I touched grass and didn't end up a terminally online incel, but at least I get to call random people brown all day, so it evens out".I'm good, I know. The pay is even better with skills like these.
>>220334484>>220334353>>220334322I really appreciate your religious guidance. I'm going to bed but if you have anything to add, I'll check the thread when I wake up.
>>220334877>>>220334484 #>>>220334353 #>>>220334322 #I just checked out the guy in that movie clip. He's exactly 66 years old as I discover him.Is finding 66 in life, like God giving me a warning or is it a silly coincidence to be ignored?
>>220335014Oh no. And its 6th.And I'm falling asleep at 6am.
>>220326297Holocenechads are eating good
>>220334608Why do you hate it so much?
>>220335430Unfortunately, the movie still takes place in the modern day. An important point they make is that we're still currently in the holocene.
>>220327446You are inherently bad and powerless and will be punished and you must be a sniveling obedient little bitch to avoid being punished but can still be punished anyway no matter what. Also the person who has decided all of this and has absolute power over you "loves" you. Christcucktianity is a sad mental illness and it's still the least bad compared to being a kike or shitslamist.
The Man from Earth is the ultimate pleb detector. It's for people who feel "smart" after watching it without realising how fucking atrocious it is.It's like a bad cheesy B movie from the 90s. The only redeeming factor is the intriguing backstory, literally every other film element is utter dogshit (yes, even the script)From the mexican telenovela like acting, generic stock soundtrack, no character development, no actual dialogue just a long exposition Q&A throughout, constant boring back to back camerawork, no use of the one room, non existent lighting, a side love story pulled out of the ass, most cliche character traits, literally everything. I had to look up twice that it actually was from 2007, not early 90s.This shit shouldn't even be a movie, it should be a book or a play. Or given to some other director because Richard Schenkman doesn't even know what a director is.Just look at any other movie in his profile, everything is a meme (pic related)And don't tell me they had no budget, 200 000$ is not small budget for this kind of movie. There are far superior movies with half the budget of that. This movie has no artistic value whatsoever. It is just an excuse to make money from the story. You will never see a renowned director admire this movie because there is nothing to admire except the concept.Just try to compare this movie to let's say 12 Angry Men, both set in one room. The difference is almost laughable.
>>220325983To save people the trouble in case this image piques their interest as it did mine, this image is from a nothingburger scene in the sequel which has a nothingburger plot and the prequel has an even more nothingburger plot.
>>220337146>The Man from Earth is the ultimate pleb detector.>It's for people who feel "smart" after watching it without realising how fucking atrocious it is.>It's like a bad cheesy B movie from the 90s. The only redeeming factor is the intriguing backstory, literally every other film element is utter dogshit (yes, even the script)It's essentially a filmed stage play. It could have all taken place in one set. I've not seen anything else that's like it.
>>220337146>This shit shouldn't even be a movie, it should be a book or a play.Good news, it started as a book and was adapted into a play after the movie's success.
>>220337330"Prequel" doesn't mean "previous movie," it means a sequel where the story takes place prior to an earlier movie.
>>220325983It's 99% percent from being perfect script wise, my only nitpick on it is the reveal that one of the professors there was his son that he abandoned, that reveal wasn't needed.
>>220337404Carnage 2011 is similar to what you're describing.
>>220337786Thanks pal
>>220335430dat fucking elbow. I always knew limb expression through opposable thumbs was critical as a built-in part of the human body which allowed us to get where we are today. Same with binocular vision, vocal communication, brain and memory and overall central nervous system, life cycle.Never thought of the importance of the elbow joint. Those beasts would be mighty scary to see
>>220337751That did seem a bit unnecessary, but it makes sense why the script went for that sudden cheap twist when you consider the writer was known for working on The Twilight Zone and Star Trek.
How do you respond without sounding mad?
>>220335014>>220335046Well now you have to watch Pi. Yes numbers are from God, no you can't find out what they mean.
>>220335014this guy rules
>>220337751Can you think of a better way to let the audience in on him telling the truth while also resolving the tension between him and the psychologist?
