Nah man, I lived in the 90s it was great. The early signs of decline were there; but it hadn't hit yet. Clinton started the globalist push in the early 90s by passing NAFTA and giving China favorite nation trade status which gutted our industry. The country was still prosperous though, life was affordable and we hadn't been overrun by foreigners.

September 11th was the real point of no return. The point where you realized that they weren't going to let us have peace and prosperity because the machine wanted war.

City pop isn't a genre.
It's an umbrella term used to group together about half a dozen actual genres released during a certain era.
Like fusion, boogie/disco and synth pop mostly, but a couple of others as well like AOR.

They initially made a completely new show instead of just dubbing the original, and added cynically cash grabby stuff like giving them all toyetic windshield (because they're sailors, obviously) and doing excruciatingly 90s live action teen show as a wraparound that had makeover montages and Mercury in a wheelchair and was shot on the same set as Saved By the Bell. It's ten minutes but feels like an hour.

It's basically the best directed show to ever be made to air on public TV.

>>220330624
>I've had a weird urge to revisit it, should I?
It's basically the most uneven in terms of quality show I've ever seen, and I mean that in a very good way. When it peaks, it really goes all out and you can see how much was put into it to make it that awesome, but even when it goes through downtime you're still generally getting quality episodes every so often that are exploring the world and characters in various ways. Just so long as you expect a decent number of episodes to suck, while always knowing they'll be more great things around the corner that make it more than worthwhile, you'll really enjoy it.

Characters also felt human. Nowadays magical girls are heavily dictated by tranny schizos so every girl is friend of everyone, love everything and everyone, and has zero attraction to the other sex.
Meanwhile older magical girls had the girls actual caring about their bodies, fighting other girls, being jealous of others and wanting the pretty boy

>>
tv anime peaked in the 90s mainly because those shows were made as prime-time nationwide shows which means they could use more money and more animators per show in general.

almost zero anime are aired at prime time now. even doraemon and shinchan had to move from a prime-time show to an early evening show. one piece is now a sunday morning show. sailor moon and dragon ball were aired at prime time in the 90s.

I was born in 1988, so I got to experience all of the 90s. The 90s were objectively the best decade ever (especially to have a childhood). Agent Smith was right when he said that 1999 was the peak of human civilisation.

They don't make many anime with cohesive aesthetics nowadays. There are a few examples, but nothing as aesthetic as Sailor Moon

>girls keep fighting monsters all the time but barely get any better at fighting
>Don't really improve in teamwork
>When they are getting beat Tuxedo Mask just shows up to get them out of trouble
Sailor Venus is arguably the most impressive sailor scout because she was kicking monster ass alone while Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars were out there barely scraping by even with Mask's help...
I only ever watched the original though idk about any sequels or whatever. Maybe I should step a little further into the Sailorverse but I expect it to be the same.
>>
>>220340050
>I only ever watched the original
I don't even know what you mean by 'original' here, but I assume it was mostly the first season of the DiC version, which starred 'Serena' fighting the 'Negaverse'.

>Maybe I should step a little further into the Sailorverse but I expect it to be the same.
The actual plotlines the series runs through are genuinely impressive a lot of the time. There's a lot of crazy shit to go through actually, but I can only really be sure you didn't watch the Japanese exclusive parts, since you only described the most generic things.
>>
>>220339731
>Usagi
Which one? That pic has five rabbits.
>>
>>220340050
If you're into Venus "kicking monster ass alone", I suggest you read the Sailor V manga. Which is actually the "original", with the whole Sailor Moon storyline being a spinoff or "sequel".
But either way, yeah, watching more of the anime is definitely also worth it - and the girls do get a lot better at what they're doing.

it has some great scenes and commentary about that period in time at the height of the bubble
at the end it kinda falls apart and becomes incoherent, which stops it from becoming a masterpiece
