Is it as good as people say it is?
poor speedy
>>220333157It's easily the best Western adult animated sitcom ever created. There will never be anything else like it.
It's a rare show that gets better as it goes. It's not laugh out loud funny but as you slowly learn all the characters and their backstory some of the interactions get hilarious. Guys like 21 get great archs
POPPA SMURF HAS A FUCKING BEARDHE'S TOTALLY A MAMMAL!
It's pretty great. And probably the best realistic take on super heroes. It asks "In a world where super science and supernatural powers exist, what kind of people would actually put on silly costumes and give themselves silly names and carry out decade long feuds?" And the answer, of course, is "Very childish ones."
>>220333157PLESIOSAUR!!!
>Hank, you are not to call your father a "crumb-bum" in front of company.
And more people of color!
>>220333157it's not for everyone but its perfect for the people who get it. Lots of weird niche references to new wave bands and boomer shows
>>220333693Nta but for instance in the image above that comment just the guy's name is a sports joke, a movie joke, and a garden variety pun all at the same time
The only issue I had with it, which was also its best strength is the long wait between seasons. A show that originally aired in 2004 to 2018 only having 7 seasons and less than 100 episodes is bizarre but it worked out because the head guy at Adult Swim loved the show and told the people behind it to take as much time as possible. Maybe it needed to be marketed more, but at the same it already had a niche fanbase who somehow also didn't manage to contribute to the show's decline or tarnished image. Maybe there could've been a way to get more people into it or promote it more. Its certainly one of those shows people might see and ignore because they don't understand what its parodying or can't follow the earlier plot points from certain episodes.
>>220333157It's a show for nerds. If you don't like it, you probably too much of a normie to get it.
>>220333157This is a top 10 show for me.>10/10
>>220333157It was fun
>>220333244>It's a rare show that gets better as it goesIt's the other way around, it was way better at the first seasons when it was an episodic show that didn't take itself too serious
>>220333157Well, it's extremely clever, but not necessarily funny. That's up to taste, of course. There are people who connected to the early episodes that couldn't take the endless Hatred and Moppet episodes, or who weren't into the NYC stuff. People who love the show love how peerlessly autistic these two get about continuity, and others probably find that insufferable, especially coupled with their penchant for doing dramatic fakeout buildups that turn out to be nothing because they think it's funny.I love it, it's an alltime top tenner for the same types who like Twin Peaks and MST3K.Personally I recommend starting with the animated Tick, I saw it as a kid before VB and it sets the tone perfectly and was made by some of the same people.
>>220333157First half of season 1 is a bit rough; the rest is great.
>>220333157The rule is you either love season 1-3 and hate everything else, or the other way around.
>>220333200he was [--} this close to getting his wings too...
Homosexuals really enjoy this show
>>220334109>It's a show for nerds.Close. It's a show for music nerds. One of the most insufferable forms of nerdery.
>>220333157I feel like it loses steam after a few seasons but most people seem to still like it so it might just be a me thing.
>>220333157Watch Jonny Quest first.
Is Sgt Hatred the GOAT pedophile?
>>220333157Reddit the show.
>>220333157no, its honestly exhausting and rick and morty is unironically better, and i hate saying that because it took me forever to finally watch rick and morty because i assumed it would suck.
>>220333157Better.
It's a great show. But that doesn't mean it's for everyone.S1 is kinda rough, but still has some gems. Then it's solid af all the way until the NY arc. I still like the show after that point, but it's a large shift in the show to be less episodic and more arc progression. It filters people pretty hard. The movie is the weakest part of the series. But i still think they did a pretty good job with it, considering it was their last chance to tie up everything.
>>220333562Kek
>>220333157it's decently funny but it really gets up its own ass regarding anything related to mental health or trauma
VB goes right up there w/ Red vs Blue as dumb shows that were too smart for their mass audiences so in the end they feel invisible in a lot of ways.
I bought the complete DVD set from Amazon and it didn't work, just made a loud noise. I have a region free player. I was sad because I really love the show and only saw like 3 seasons.
i enjoy it but its fans are insufferable fart sniffing douchebags that cant help but reference the same 5 lines over and over
>>220338912Great recommendation.
>>220339021Man … sorry to hear that.
>>220339026Bro, sounds like you just hate being around nerds.
It's honestly incredible.
>>220337375Wrong I love it all. Early season 1 is a bit clunky and primitive but it finds its feet pretty quick. Season 1 gets retroactively improved by the later seasons, which for tv shows is a damn miracle too.
It peaked with Operation P.R.O.M., but it didn't fall too far from there at least
>>220333157I liked them alleven season 1even the Manhattan seasonseven the movie
>>220333225It's great and it's a crime it got canned.I also like Superjail and Aqua Hunger Teen Force.
>>220338816It's way nerdier than that. Tell me who Henry Darger is without looking him up (I knew who he was years before he got mentioned on the show because I'm a pedo
Seasons 1 & 2 are great. After that it fell off considerably.
>>220340360Season 4 is the best season you pleb
>>220340312>im a bigger nerd than you because of this particular reference!weird flex
>>220336043I think tonally the humour is most similar to Arrested Development with the nonstop barrage of puns, niche references, and minor pieces of dialogue that would be throwaway gags in another show but become major features of a character's development arc or even a major plot point in the narrative
>>220340408Do you even know what a nerd is, you farthog?
I can't believe that whore made it through the lake of acid
Sometimes it stretches credulity a bit with coincidences and what not but otherwise a decent show.
I wish it would at least continue as a comic book
>>220333157I'm ashamed i find HER hot
>>220340312I know who Henry Darger was too, and I'm not. He's one of the names that get brought up fairly regular in articles about outsider artists. He's about as obscure as The Shaggs.
>>220340620I dare you to make less sense.
>>220340642Oh lordy, can you heat yourself, need?the Shaggs are so great. Pick up the new Palmer Rocky bluray from Grindhouse if you haven't it's nuts
It starts as a fun deconstruction of day's past adventure shows (but it does weave in narrative points it'll reuse in the future, when the focus obliquely leans towards its own expansive narrative), and then it becomes its own big thing. It is one of if not the best western adult animated show.
>>220340666Dr Girlfriend
>>220339021the box set is a rip, s3 and onward have blurays
>>220340806yeah how could anyone find a woman with a funny voice hot
>>220333157Only the first two seasons
>>220340408>im a bigger nerd than you because of this particular reference!yes that is how nerds compete, over who is more autistic
>>220333157It took 23 years to finish. It was alright.
>>220341590And it should have taken longer
>>220341629Na. The entire "everyone is a failure" theme was played out.

>>220333332The real joke is that they were unaware Smurfs were canonically created by magic, even though it happens in the cartoon, all while trying to one-up one another with their knowledge of the cartoon.
>>220333693Jesus Jones!
>>220333157Daisy Taylor should play Dr. Girlfriend in a live action adaptation. She's already worn a wild slutcore outfit that resembles this one in a scene with Chanel Santini. Her big 6 inch cock pokes out of it as well, and Chanel blows her. It's insanely erotic.Besides that she's perfect for the role. Got the voice and the look. And a fat ass and big tits like Dr. Girlfriend.I love Dr girlfriend. And girl dick.
>>220341833Despite the voice, Dr. Girlfriend isn't a tranny.
>>220333332This exact argument happens in donnie darko
>>220339006it's pretty spot on. you sound like an ignorant child
Why do 4channers love this shit? This and vinny vinesauce and tf2and home movies
>>220333157It's very good. Stop watching once they move to New York though.
>>220338924My favorite episode with this dude is where he tries to keep Rusty busy by taking him on a wild goose chase searching for the doll that Hank was using to prank call the house (it makes sense in the context of the episode) but at the very end the real guy who voiced the doll shows up from the mental institution he escaped from.
>>220333157It's pretty much reddit meets netflix meets globohomo feminism. Basically it's feminism the show made to hypnotise the viewer into thinking "white men bad" and "POC women good". There isn't really much more to this dreary show than that.
>>220340530I can't believe that whore stole my stanza

>>220342881Sounds pretty good!
>>220342881meds
>>220333157I love how every episode the B plot meets with the A plot and they both solve each other. The dynamic they do with the set up and ending of each episode is awesome.
>>220342906>>220342913“We’re not calling ourselves ‘JetBoy and Rocket Girl !’ ““But they were a cool band in the 70s. ‘The Undead’ even did covers of their songs.’”“Then let’s call ourselves the Undead. That’s way cooler!”
>>220333157Its very good. but they canceled it in the middle of what ended up being the last season, so the final few episodes and end movie are kind of disappointing. but the show is so good for the first 6 seasons that its enough
>>220333157It’s libtard Commiefornian slop.
>>220341119wrong. 3 and 4 are better then season 1 by a wide margin. season 1 while good is too much of a straight up johnny quest parody which would have gotten old had the show not advanced beyond it.
>>2203426434chan posters are just SA goons who got mad they couldn't say slurs so they unironically revere all this fart huffing nerd shit
>>220337375But I love all of it (except the first half of season 5) and my favorite episode is Ghost of the Sargasso
>>220339006>it really gets up its own ass regarding anything related to mental health or traumaWasn't the joke at the end of the therapy one that Doc realized all the other boy adventurers were fucking losers and he doesn't need help?
>>220337375no, it pretty much gets better with each season until peaking around season 4
>>220342881Been a while since the last time you posted this. Life treating you well?

>>220333157It's like Rick and Morty for adults. Instead of making a script, working in meta humor mocking the script, and calling that "smart," it is actually smart and makes a lot of art jokes.
easily the best adultswim show
It became too plot heavy. Also I know the lack of Brock was due to availability but there was also way too much Billy and Sgt Hatred and not much Orpheus for some reason.
>>220342643man i love tf2 but tf2 fans and venture bros fans are very similar levels of obnoxious>guys tf2 is THE MOST INFLUENTIAL fps of ALL TIME! without TF2 we wouldnt have OVERWATCH! KNEEL to your predecessor overwatchBITCH! look at the cool meme i recreated with tf2 characters! now its much better! tf2 is unkillable!!!!!
>>220333157Nah
>>220345062that's the new wave of fans clinging to the heels of youtubers, oldheads know the game is an utter shell of it's old self and either just enjoy it in passing or have abandoned it entirely
>>220345053being plot heavy is what kept people invested for so long, especially with the 3 year or longer gaps between seasons
The Investors felt like characters they didn’t know what to do with. I thought it was weird how the whole plot of Gargantua 2 is just Sovereign going “welp, I’m crazy now!” When he was previously pretty level headed for a supervillain
>>220345347They've gone on record multiple times saying they never have overarching plans beyond a single season, getting stuck and needing to write a way out for odd characters like them is bound to happen all the time.
>>220333157The episodes vary in quality but the show is like 1 big story. Lots of continuity.
>>220345347the show kind of has multiple endings. climaxes where the show is never the same again afterwards; Gargantua 2 I think is a better ending then the final ending. the new york seasons are ok but its almost too huge a change
>>220345401the biggest fuckup in the whole show is how much of a huge deal they made who the venture bros mom was. there were multiple times when they could have either answered the question or moved on from it, but instead they kept hinting for season after season that it was this big grand secret which ended up leading the entire final movie to revolve around it, only to basically drop the ball in the explanation.
>>220345601I actually thought the revelation was sweet and a nice way of humanizing Rusty
Did you dab it?I dab it.
>>220345694I mean, it makes no sense in context of the whole show. why would a guy who was so selfish for so long (especially in his youth) want to raise clone boys on his own without a mother?
>>22034345021 and 24 singing "White Candy Christmas" to The Monarch in prison is just beautifulhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMOtZY7DVZ0
>>220333157It's a well-made show, but I felt like it started going up its own ass by the time the Venture family moved to New York. Too much focus on lore and continuity to make it more "sophisticated" that it sacrifices the naturally campy charm and humor the earlier seasons had.
It deserves to be preserved in a museum.
I love Venture Brothers, and watched the series multiple times, but the movie ruined the whole series for me. I know they had limited time since the show was being AXd so maybe it's not all their fault but it was a literal story where nothing interesting happens besides just a vomit of finishing up the details from the series. They didn't even have any awesome scenes of Brock killing people which was a hard failure for me. I don't think I can ever watch it again knowing how how terrible the end is.
>>220345986Yeah, the way they used Brock was inexcusable for the finale
>>220345986I didn’t even watch the movie but I bet the big secret/ reveal is that all three of them are clones and there never was a mother. It was a fake memory implanted in Rusty’s head. Was I right?
>>220345347didnt these guys very unceramoneously kill monstroso?
>You want Dean? You can have Dean, you can ride on his back, like master blaster!
>>220346014everyone was clones, but there was no fake memory. they poorly introduce a supervillain lady who technically had the eggs that produced the ventrue bros, but its not satisfying or worth all the build up. they ran out of time and had to combine a bunch of ideas they were going to use for an entire season worth of new episodes into that one movie.
>>220346226Yeah that sounds like something they’d do to resolve it.
Urbaniak imbues Rusty with so much personality. He really turns bitching about mindless nonsense into an art form.
>>220346226Dermott isn't a clone
>>220338924I keep this on hand for when the right moment occurs. This is not the usual moment, but it works.
>>220346281True. but rusty, the monarch, dean and hank all are clones
>>220345858>Too much focus on lore and continuity to make it more "sophisticated" that it sacrifices the naturally campy charm and humor the earlier seasons hadThis is the problem with every episodic show that becomes serialized. Basically every Williams Street show met its demise the same way.
>>220345787As a kid he wasn't bad. He even wanted to own up to impregnating a teenager and help her through it. The Rusty we see from S1 to S7 is a gradual degradation who still loves his boys but is also broken down by the whole boy adventurer gimmick that hes known his whole life.
>>220346281It was very funny that Rusty finding out about Dermott was entirely contained in their behind the music parody special
>>220346373>but is also broken down by the whole boy adventurer gimmick that hes known his whole lifeyeah, thats why it makes zero sense he would randomly as an adult want to raise clone sons by himself out of nowhere. then drag them around on the same dangerous adventures that traumatized him as a child. it always seemed like he wound up with hank and dean by accident and fell back into a life he never wanted. the movie now revising all of this and claiming rusty for someone reason chose all of this baffles me. it makes everything he does the entire show really not make any sense
>>220333157Yes. It's also a show that appreciates with repeated viewings, not just to catch background gags, but also to see various setups and callbacks. Stuff like a one off joke in Season 1 coming back in Season 4 really stand out when you remember it took them like 20 years to make all seven seasons.
>>220346531The adventures weren't the only bad things. Rusty was just a prop for Jonas, was tormented by Jonas' friends on an endless basis and was the posterboy for cartoons and merchandise. He couldn't even wear shorts because the boy adventurer thing was how he had to market himself. Rusty doesn't endlessly destroy his son's psyche. Brock would never hurt and enjoy hurting them like Action Man did. Rusty would never walk around naked to emasculate his sons. But the adventures is really ALL he knows and being a half-assed super scientist whos living in his dad's shadow. Its not great parenting but he chooses to do it and make the best of what he knows.
>>220333157Love it but dislike that it popularized the style of parody where you just do a concept earnestly but just pull out at the last minute with an anti climax. It works in venture bros because they know when to genuinely commit to things but almost everything that tries to copy the style over does it or just uses it as a way to brush off criticism because "we're weren't actually doing that it was all for the joke" Still VB doesn't doesn't deserve blame for people copping their shtick but worse
>>220346326Little corn niblets
this show was pretty good
>>220346531maybe during one of his benzo episodes he decided he could show Jonas how to raise a boy right, and to really show him off he would raise two at the same time.
>>220346773that theory is at least sort of plausible. but it would also have to mean rusty already knew he was a clone, which he didnt

>>220347059Fantastic cameo by Kevin Conroy.F
>>220333225>sitcom
>>220333157The show starts off conceptually and is great and then it goes up so far it's own ass that it becomes extremely meta and self-referential, rewarding viewers for sticking with the series. Lots of callbacks, subversion and it becomes a borderline high quality shitpost towards the end. It's great.
>>220333157If it would have ended at "All This and Gargantua-2" as a movie with maybe a few more things wrapped up, it would have been the perfect series.
>>220333157That episode with the twin girls and werewolf was so horny holy shit
>>220345053Oh, is that the irl reason for Brock going to Sphinx? I hated that shit.
